RE: Changing text opacity levels?
When this thread started in 2010, the Mac client would allow setting the opacity of text, but the Windows client couldn't set or even display text opacity. To avoid confusion, we recently (LO 2013?) disabled the opacity slider on Mac so that the platforms match.

RE: Layout file size with inserted jpg
Hi-
You're the second person who has reported this issue. So far I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, so no fix yet. If you can send me a copy of your layout file for investigation it might be helpful.
Thanks,
Marc -
RE: [GRANTED]Programmable <AutoText> + Labels = Joyful AutoLabel
Good ideas so far! FYI the next week or so would be an excellent time to post any Auto-Text or auto-labelling improvements you'd like to see.
Thanks,

RE: Layout 2014 vector rendering bug splat
Do you have a DropBox account? If so, you can upload the file and PM me the link, and then take the file down once I've downloaded a copy.

RE: Layout Auto-save file bad
LayOut has two systems to prevent lost work: file backup, and auto-save.
File backup works like this: every time a file is saved, the previous version of the file is renamed with a "~" (on mac) or with "backup_" (on windows). This file will be in the same directory as the actual file that you're working on. If you ever save a file, and then realize that you saved changes you didn't want, you can try opening this backup file to basically go back to the last saved version.
Auto-save works like this: when LayOut crashes, it leaves files behind in the user's temporary directory. The next time LayOut runs, it presents these temporary files in the "Recovered Files" dialog. Since this happens automatically, it's a bit harder to know exactly what state your work is in.
So, to recover work, the first thing to do is to look for the backup file. If that's not present, or is too old to be useful, you can run LayOut and see what's available in the "Recovered Files" dialog.

RE: Layout 2014 vector rendering bug splat
Hi Ardbeg-
Do you get the opportunity to submit a bugsplat when it crashes? If so, let me know the name or email address you put on the crash reports and I can investigate. Alternately, if you can share the file with me, I'll do some investigation. If you're seeing the same crashes in LO 2013, it's probably not the problem that this thread is talking about.
Thanks,
Marc -
RE: LayOut 2014 Satisfaction
Thanks! Glad to hear that. We've got a lot of great stuff in the pipeline, too.

RE: Suggestions to improve Layout
Don't worry, I haven't forgotten. I actually started hacking around on #10 while riding the bus up to BaseCamp on Monday. It's something I've been wanting to do for about a year but haven't managed to fit it in yet. #2 and #9 are also on my personal list.
I'd love to be able to report back that we're addressing every item, but understand that your list represents about a release's worth of effort. Multiply that by every wish-list out there (granted, there's some overlap) and I'll be busy until I retire. Which isn't a bad thing, but does explain why there are a lot of disappointed wish-listers out there.

RE: Base Camp 2014.
I believe that Vail allows uphill traffic, bring your skins and save your cash for scotch. I'll be trying to get in a morning run before camp starts.

RE: Layout 2014 vector rendering bug splat
Hi all-
This crash is likely caused by some of the optimizations that we did to vector rendering in LayOut for 2014. The key symptom is that a particular model hangs and then crashes in vector or hybrid rendering on mac, and that model renders correctly in 2013. Does this sound like your issue?
If so, this issue is the absolute #1 top priority for the LayOut team at the moment, and we're currently evaluating a fix. I can't promise when it will come out, etc, etc, but we're doing our best to get it out asap.
There are two workarounds, neither of which is great:
- Use LayOut 2013 (note: Auto-Text will not work in 2013)
- Go through your model deleting geometry until the render succeeds, try to figure out exactly what is causing the crash, and then delete that bit. I've seen several reports about a rain-gutter component from 3dwh causing this issue, but it's not the only source of the problem.
There's some discussion about this issue in the LayOut support forum here:

RE: Suggestions to improve Layout
Hi all-
I'm posting mostly to apologize for not responding earlier. I've been heading up a large project for the past month and haven't had much time to spare.
I have forwarded this thread to the design team for perusal. Rest assured that all of the items in this thread are on our radar, and several of them are on my personal wish list as well.
Thanks,

RE: Layout 14 leader text
Hi Chuck-
Just to let you know, a number of the LayOut team members have read that wishlist post, and I'll work up a point-by-point reply when I get a chance. Stay tuned, and thanks.
Edit: This was reposted as a separate thread, I'll follow the discussion there:

RE: Layout 14 leader text
Hi Chuck-
The Label tool is a bit of a strange beast because it inherits behavior from both the Line tool and the Text Box tool. There are certain aspects of the behavior that we've never quite been satisfied with.
I can reproduce this behavior in 2014 and in 2013 as well. Are you seeing this as a behavior change since a previous version? Or is this a new workflow for you that's not working as you expect?
thanks,

RE: LayOut Crashing
Long story short, it sounds like moving aside the LayOut .plo files fixed the crashing problem. Funny thing is that the permissions looked ok, but there must have been something else going on.

RE: LayOut Crashing
Hi Dave-
First, thanks for submitting your crash reports and putting your name on them, it makes it much easier for us to track down the problem.
It looks like you're encountering a file permissions problem. I'll PM you the exact path that's giving the error, but for anyone else reading this it's the SketchUp settings files in AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\ etc etc. The general solution is to either check to make sure your user account has permissions to that folder, or to run LayOut "as administrator".
thanks,

RE: Layout 2013 Repeatedly Crashes -- Is My File Size Too Big?
Hi Frank-
I see your crash reports in our database, thanks for submitting them and for putting your email address on them. I'll see if we can figure out what's going on.

RE: Lines not hidden
Thanks for attaching your file, I can see the problem on my machine. I'll make sure we investigate the problem.

RE: Relink Drawing - Drag File not working
It seems to be working for me. Maybe some other mac users can chime in? I'm still on OS X 10.8.4

RE: Layout 2013 drawers
Hi Trev-
Unfortunately that problem is caused by some API changes in Mavericks. As far as I know there's no work-around for the problem, although we're working on a fix.
Thanks,
Marc
