    Recent Best Controversial
    • LayOut and El Capitan (OS X 10.11)

      Hi all-

Just a quick note that the most recent version of LayOut 2015 will not work properly on the beta version of OS X 10.11 El Capitan - it's completely unusable due to a bug in the mouse-location routines. There are also some issues with snappy dialogs. We're working on the issue and actively monitoring the El Capitan beta, and we'll do our best to have a solution available before El Capitan is released.

I won't be actively monitoring this thread, so please follow up on the official SketchUp forum if there are any questions or more issues to report. http://forums.sketchup.com/t/layout-and-el-capitan/13299

      Thanks,
      Marc

    • RE: Layout files corrupting

      Hi Marc-

Sorry for not responding earlier. I'd be curious to get a copy of your corrupt file, along with a description of what you may have been doing just before the problem occurred. At the moment we don't have any known issues that would lead to a corrupt file.

      Thanks,
      Marc

    • RE: Missing Pages

      Hi-

That definitely sounds like a bug in LayOut. You may be able to reduce your exposure to the issue by regularly manually saving the file to a backup file name, but that's an annoyance that shouldn't be necessary. I'd be very interested to get a copy of your corrupt file, especially if you've found a way to reliably reproduce the problem.

Also, for faster response from the SketchUp team I'd recommend posting in the official SketchUp forum (forums.sketchup.com). Except during a release, I tend to only have the time to read SketchUcation a few times a month.

      Thanks,
      Marc

I made an entry for this in our bug tracker, so we'll take a look at it.

    • RE: Lots of bugsplats in Pro 2015

BugSplat reports do go directly to Trimble, but we don't personally contact each user who crashes - the reports are mostly used to pull out the "most common" issues. However, if you put a name or email address on the report, and then post in the SketchUp forum, I (or someone else) can look up the crash report and may be able to offer insight.

      Thanks,
      Marc

    • RE: LO2015: no scale indication @ right-click anymore

On Windows I see the current scale marked with a check mark and a "Current Scale" label. On mac I'm not seeing the "Current Scale" label, but there is still a check mark next to the active scale.

If you select "1:500" in that context menu, does a check mark appear?

    • RE: [GRANTED]Programmable <AutoText> + Labels = Joyful AutoLabel

#2 is a bug - that asterisk is a redraw artifact of what should be a button with a drop-down arrow on it. You can see what it's supposed to look like when you enter the text editor on a label but before you start typing.

    • RE: [GRANTED]Programmable <AutoText> + Labels = Joyful AutoLabel

For #7, double-click on the leader line to enter the new Label Manipulator - this will allow you to edit individual points in the leader line, change how the leader line connects to the text box, and change the size of the text box. It's a bit of a "hidden feature", so I'm working on a better way to get the word out.

    • RE: [GRANTED]Programmable <AutoText> + Labels = Joyful AutoLabel

If there's more than one per page I don't see a way to achieve it with the current system. I'll add this to the feature request list if it isn't there already.

      Thanks,
      Marc

      Hi Bruce-

If you envision having one of the these tags per page, then what you describe may be possible with the current PageNumber Auto-Text tags. However, if you'd like to sequentially number multiple drawings on a page, then it's not possible with the current system. Could you clarify?

      Thanks,

      Hi Tommy-

Glad you like the new capabilities. The LayOut team was just wrapping up our design meetings for the new feature when you started this thread back in May. We still have a list of features that we'd like to add to the tool, so feel free to share any ideas you have after you've had some time to get familiar with LO 2015.

    • RE: OSX Yosemite is coming...Problems?

I believe that the outliner crash only happens if there are "hidden" components/groups.

    • RE: OSX Yosemite is coming...Problems?

      Hi-

We've seen a number of new crashes running on the Yosemite beta versions - related to SDK changes and/or stricter handling of memory. The outliner crash is related to a change in font handling, with no particular workaround other than keeping the outliner closed. You may also see some odd behavior from the "snappy dialogs".

      Thanks,
      Marc

Unfortunately there's no list of upcoming features - we're not even supposed to hint about them. Believe me, I'd love to reply to request threads like this with more specific information.

    • RE: LayOut 2014 Crashing, Repeatedly

      Hi Joe-

Your most reliable way to get help directly from the SketchUp or LayOut teams is to post on our new support form at forums.sketchup.com. We do read through this forum but less regularly.

In any case, the only information I could extract from the crash reports you sent is that it's crashing while trying to send an image to the pdf export library. Does your LayOut file contain any images that you've imported?

      thanks,
      Marc

    • RE: Auto page number not displaying

      Hi Sketchy-

That's actually a feature, but it's a little hard to figure out what's going on when you don't know about it.

If you go into the "Customize Auto-Text" option in the Text menu, and then display the settings for the <PageNumber> tag, you'll see a setting for "Start Page". If the <PageNumber> tag is placed on a page that's BEFORE the "Start Page", it will have an empty value. If you look in the Pages inspector, you'll notice that there's a little blue hash-mark in front of any page that's being used as a "Start Page".

The purpose of this feature is to allow the use of a <PageNumber> tag in a document that perhaps has a cover sheet that shouldn't be numbered. The <PageNumber> tag can be placed on a shared layer, and it will simply not display on any pages before the Start Page.

I don't check this forum more than a few times a month, but I do monitor the official LayOut forum more closely:

    • RE: Using Values from SKP Model for Custom Auto-Text in LayOut

      Hi Andrew-

In 2014, there's no way to pull data out of the Skp Model using Auto-Text, but it's high on our list for future versions.

      thanks,

What tools are those buttons supposed to be? I don't know of any situation where LayOut should show red X icons instead of the regular toolbar items.

Most LayOut objects will snap to their original position during a resize - which can be very annoying, or very useful, depending on your situation.
