Layout 2014 vector rendering bug splat
-
I use layout & sketch up everyday for work, since upgrading to v2014 Layout crashes every time I try to vector render a simple scene. Hybrid rendering works fine.
Is anyone else having this issue, its so frustrating.

I use layout very often as well but V2014 works fine for me.
Could you share some details about your gfx card and drivers? Maybe upload the layout file?

I've tried with both simple and very complex models, but it works fine on my computer...
In fact with LO2014 the vector and hybrid are rendering very fast...As Kaas is suggesting, you should upload the model here and also provide some more information about your system, enabling others to help debug...
It can be a hardware thing, but it can also be a part of your model creating these issues... -
I am having the same problem, Its very frustrating as I need to vector render most of my stuff, Hybrid rendering is fine but I crash every time when trying to vector render

Hi all-
This crash is likely caused by some of the optimizations that we did to vector rendering in LayOut for 2014. The key symptom is that a particular model hangs and then crashes in vector or hybrid rendering on mac, and that model renders correctly in 2013. Does this sound like your issue?
If so, this issue is the absolute #1 top priority for the LayOut team at the moment, and we're currently evaluating a fix. I can't promise when it will come out, etc, etc, but we're doing our best to get it out asap.
There are two workarounds, neither of which is great:
- Use LayOut 2013 (note: Auto-Text will not work in 2013)
- Go through your model deleting geometry until the render succeeds, try to figure out exactly what is causing the crash, and then delete that bit. I've seen several reports about a rain-gutter component from 3dwh causing this issue, but it's not the only source of the problem.
There's some discussion about this issue in the LayOut support forum here:

Hi,
I am having this same problem. In my case it's with one specific elevation of the same model. I've tried everything possible. To rectify - even back to layout 2013 and still had the same thing happening. It's maddening. The weird thing is I have viewports on the same page referencing the same model but with different views and they give me no troubles. But when I try to get a certain elevation and then vector render it it crashes - just locks up permanently.
Today I spent hours experimenting with various fixes, turning objects on / off. colors, re-saving the model copying the usable viewports and then changing the views. Erasing virtually everything in the elevation piece by piece. I'm running out of hair!
The model is pretty big - 31MB. Runs fine on my system otherwise and has not slowed me down at all really - Just the one elevation. I cannot figure it out.
Needless to say I'd be happy for some suggestions.

Hi Ardbeg-
Do you get the opportunity to submit a bugsplat when it crashes? If so, let me know the name or email address you put on the crash reports and I can investigate. Alternately, if you can share the file with me, I'll do some investigation. If you're seeing the same crashes in LO 2013, it's probably not the problem that this thread is talking about.
Thanks,

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your reply.
There was no Bugsplat associated with the problem. Just freezes up (not responding) and stays that way. I ended up just dumping the program every time.
I ended up isolating the problem to one component. It was a caster that I had originally brought in via STL and then cleaned up using ThomThom CleanUp3. My solution was to turn off the Casters layer in that one scene. That solved the immediate problem. I will note however that this component shows up in various other views in my layout pages including top, front, back, side and various perspective views with no problems. As I stated it was only in side view in one layout window that it caused the crash. I have it in side view on other pages with no problems.
I'd be happy to send you the model and the layout file. Relatively big files though - probably 60mb between them.
Let me know how I should transfer them to you.
Thanks

Do you have a DropBox account? If so, you can upload the file and PM me the link, and then take the file down once I've downloaded a copy.

All,
We've created a help article on SketchUp's website that will walk you through your options for beating this issue.
