    • RE: I could use some help with this chair...

      See this link for your chair http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=e0f16ba60e1deefe427d16763a0ff49. How it was done:

      1. Saved the Febo chair as an obj file( it has 5825 vertices and 11238 faces);
      2. Imported to Mesh lab( it will import 3ds also) and ran through filters: Merge close vertices ( d= .00010251) with 3 merged; removed duplicate faces with abuot 40 removed;
      3. Saved as dxf file and imported to DoubleCad free. Scaled by 10e6 in DoubleCad;
      4. Imported to SU 7.1 free with the result you see. I have not re-scaled yet.
        The reason with the step to Mesh lab is because it has a number of filters for clean up and decimation. I have not tried to reduce model size smaller than above. In addition I think Mesh lab is using a older version of dxf and wanted a later one for import to SU.
        Note the small artifacts at left/ right cushion back rest/ seat are in the basics model as well as the small ones on seat front edge. You can try different filters in Mesh lab to reduce model size to what you find acceptable.
        Good Luck

    • RE: Organizing cable spaghetti?

      You should try and keep power and signal cables separate although not a must. If you have an UPS and start operation from that the DC to AC converter with its higher EMI maybe a problem but have not found a specific case. TV cables are double shielded and unlike MIL spec cables with a shielding effectiveness of 45 db they have 90 db. I think that is the same for some of the PC special hook up cables you pay $$ for. In the EMC world this is called category separation. If you want some boring reading look at MIL STD 461 and 462. I like the small plastic straps with stick on where you can place where you want. For course they do not stay forever

Could not tell from your pics what they are hope you consider that. If not you may have soom redesign to do 😒

      It seems to interesting. Can you please write it in another way πŸ˜‰ , I couldn't translate it correctly.

      Ok as I wrote this is a study and i would be glad if someone join this. I think that this could be helpful for everyone.

      I Scaled the treads and risers from the model , the risers are about 179 mm which is approximately 7" which is ok for commercial and residential stairs in the USA. the treads are winders but in the center are about 11 inches. Depending upon the codes you need to follow, it should be acceptable.

      It's the riser variation from top to bottom I was discussing. I think some building codes only allow about 1/16" and the photo appears questionable .
      BTW: Some old castles steps were made with variation purposely to help thwart soldiers 😞

      hi @ all,

      is Photogrametry or Photomatch the same?

      thank you

      dean

      Not sure what context you are using but, in my prior life we used photogrametry to measure the surface of large structures such as antennas. Targets( retro directive) would be installed on the test surface, picture(s) taken and the data analyzed to determine the RMS surface errors. This could measure surface deviations down to some very small values. If you do a internet search you will probably find this technique is also used in various manufacturing for testing. In thinking about your question a little I am thinking the two could be about the same if the references for your photo match and your total system errors are such that the analysis can be done within the error bounds you want. However, photogrametry has been around a long time, techniques and errors well understood and companies specialize in that service. We use to hire the work done. It is not cheap thought. Some of the TV adds for golf course yardage meas.deviecs use photogrametry , others use GPS

    • RE: Plugins known to slow down SketchUp 8

      @chris fullmer said:

      Did you ever discover any plugins slowing down your system arjun? Its been a few weeks, I hope you took the time to test it.

      I think the intent is if you know get a list started some where. I have seen more than once posting of plugins doing " bad( problem causers)" things but the list is where? May be a sticky kink would help??
      Chris; I recently tried using your component stringer but loading per your posting direction did not work including not showing in your cf location. I attempted to do a max entropy search and tried to find any plugin possibly causing a problem but with all the plugins, the different folders and interactions the first attempt resulted in more errors that the original.I did not want to try one at a time so, I removed all plugins (rb) and the folders in the WE plugin fplder to a desk top folder and reinstalled. Guess what it started working but I have no idea why. In addition although the sequence ( map) of the plugins in the SU plugin directory was maintained the locations of plugins changed in the SU drop down , yours now show in your folder but TIG's extrude does not show in his folder now
      So a list of consolidated list would be very helpful of both slow and "bad"
      As I am a free user I don't have much of a dog in the issue here but I have become more and more concerned of the postings of tool bar issues, interactions etc. This can eventually impact Google support cost of paid users and I hope some type of control will eventually be started like Rathburn(sci) was trying before Google clamps down on plugins to protect their cost.

    • RE: DC StairCaseBuilder

      @unknownuser said:

      mac1,
      StairCaseBuilder is a Dynamic Component (SU version 7 file format)
      All users of SketchUp can take advantage of DCs - both Free & Pro.
      SU 7 & SU 8 can both use Dynamic Components
      ...........
      TO USE THIS DC:

      Open Component File - Don't Import it into an existing SU Model
      (but see note below).
      ...
      Bring up DC Toolbar: View - Toolbars - Dynamic Components
      Dynamic Components Toolbar - Yellow Middle Icon - Component Options
      Click on DC
      Dialog Box Options should appear
      ...
      Set options
      Apply
      ...
      Copy & Paste DC Staircase into your own model
      .....................
      You can actually import this DC into an existing model like a regular Component but the DC will be nested 1 Level down
      (Look at Outliner).
      You can still bring up the Dialog Box but you'll have to go inside the Components Context to do this.
      (or Explode the outer most Component once)
      ..............
      Hope this Helps / Make Sense

      Regards
      Howard L'

      Thanks for the quick reply. In ISO 1 context of Dc selected a step then component option .Ruby consul states
      Error: #<TypeError: cannot convert nil into String>

      (eval):155:in initialize' (eval):147:in call'
      Error: #<TypeError: cannot convert nil into String>

    • RE: Staircases

      It's no more than a standard stair with the landing expanded as one of the treads. My guess is your are not " dropping " the stringer to equalize the risers from top to bottom, they are usually not allowed to vary by x which I think is about 1/16.
      Just design a standard stair and find out where you are making the error. Try to use a story pole to make the layout of the risers easy on your self without all the math, that is use SU line divide function to establish a ref. FYI Rule of thumb for the run is ( 2x rise) + ( 1x run) = 25 Β± 1
      When all else fails post your model if you can

      this file is an update showing a portion of an hand rail concept http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=9df4585fbb0ebe4f427d16763a0ff49. I don't know what you want so it is a watse of my time to design very much. Some suggestion for you:

      1. Use the follow me and keep plugin to avoid rotation of the profile if you use soemthing other than circler;
      2. Establish the profile ref at all segment break points so gaps do not form including at the tread and its riser so the profile follows the stair segments;
        I think this approach keeps most of the effort you have into the model without having to start over.
        Good Luck

      LEGO set approach to "towers"
      BTW the design I was suggesting does not result in compound miter cuts. However, looking at your link there will be some plus the issue of building stairs. Suggest you should define the problem in total. I have seen many cases where people ask simple questions , get a simple answer but does not address the total problem and so there is a long drawn out process to come to a closed form solution 😞
      SU is very good at getting that type of info and is the reason I started using it when someone wanted non symmetrical ( ellipse with different base and frustrum axis lengths) speaker enclosures for a speed boat wake board bar. After trying twice with trig I decided a different approach was in order

No reason for Google to put it up as news. Typical fringe talk; he's repressed, it's all a conspiracy to shut him and his site down, Google is spying on the world, blah, blah, blah...

      Boy sounds like what I see every day on TV, congress ( both right and left) etc. Informed public should be able to make up their own minds without mommy telling them what to believe.
