    • DR for animations.

      Hello.

Somehow i put my hands on the following pc's.

      980x-4gb ram
      980x-6gb ram
      i7 2600-8gb ram
      i5 2500-8gb ram

Now ive been doing some test trying to render some random scene for an animation (walktrough.
      Been using Vray 1.49.01+SU 8.
Ive been getting this results all day.

DR instance says "error receiving stuff closing connection".
The frame renders "too fast" in the meantime the instances are still receiving the scene or stuff.
LC is done only by the main.

I think the problem relies on the modem/router i have, some thompson Tg585v6 given by my ISP.

SO the real question is a switch will solve my problems? If so, please recommend me some brands or specs.
Its a real dam shame i cant harness all those flops i have at my disposal.

    • RE: Batch rendering?

      It is very simple.
First you set up your scenes in sketchup.
      Scene1 scene2 scene 3 etc
In some older version of vray the scene 1 will be rendered 2 times in version 1.49.01 this no longer happens.

In sketchup go to view/animation/settings enable scene transition with 0 seconds.
And below that put the scene delay to 1 second.

Now in vray option be sure to have batch render enabled (options/globalsiwtches/batch render)
Then go to the output section, select render output save and name the file whatever you want, i always use simple things like A,B or C.
Below select animation on, instead of NTSC select in the frame rate custom, fps=1 and enable the include frame number thingie.

    • RE: Adding background to a landscape

There are several ways of doing so.

      1. Add the bg in post, using something like photoshop
      2. Add a vray infinite plane acting as a "wall" behind your landscape (paint it with a sky bitmap)
      3. Add a bg in eviromental setting.

      Lets go with option 3.

First you go to the vray options.
Then is Enviroment>BG color (there should be a rectangle with a m)
Once you click on thet m you can choose from the list located in the left, textsky or textbitmap.
Textsky will render a bg according to your hour/date (no clouds).
If you choose textbitmap select in the uvw type uvwtextenviroment.
You will need a big image or you will notice huge pixels in the sky.
At last textbitmap bg will come out very dark using physical camera be sure to bump the multiplier to something like 10~15.

    • RE: How to Speed up Render Time?

My money is the pc is running out of ram.
How much ram do you have?
If you have more than 4gb then i would suggest to do the LAA thingie (large addres aware).
You can download it from here. (http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556)
You can try too "cook" your light engines (IR LC or QM) for separated.
30 minutes is NOT that much time.
I used to render on a E8400, final renders took up to 3 hrs.

    • RE: VRay: Google Earth terrain rendering

      Better late than never.
I have had this very same problem too.
The only thing that i can think of to fix it is navigate through
      c:/program data/ASGVIS/vrayforsketchup/Textures
and locate the file Google Earth Snapshot and deleted it.
That way vray will be forced to create a new file.
Or at least i think it will.

    • RE: New Computer Q's

From what ive seen sketchup can only use 2 gigs of ram, there are a couple of patches floating around the web that addres that "problem" because there are no x64 version of sketchup, although im not certain if they are a reliable solution i havent use them myselft.
Now, the having a dual core may have not give the best performance on rendering, but if u have a high clockspeed and a wide FSB you should be all right, something around 3+ Ghz and a 1033FSB should be more than enough.
And the 8800gtx is a pretty solid GPU to use with sketchup, but you may want to tune up your nvidia control panel settings, remember Sketchup runs on opengl so try to keep the extension limiti off and the maximum pre-rendered frames to 1. That have worked for me.

Aside from the hardware you will find software limitations.

I have an E8550 OC @3.5Ghz, 3 gigs of ram and a 275GTX and like i said Sketchup is software bound.
