    • DR for animations.

      Hello.

Somehow i put my hands on the following pc's.

      980x-4gb ram
      980x-6gb ram
      i7 2600-8gb ram
      i5 2500-8gb ram

Now ive been doing some test trying to render some random scene for an animation (walktrough.
      Been using Vray 1.49.01+SU 8.
Ive been getting this results all day.

DR instance says "error receiving stuff closing connection".
The frame renders "too fast" in the meantime the instances are still receiving the scene or stuff.
LC is done only by the main.

I think the problem relies on the modem/router i have, some thompson Tg585v6 given by my ISP.

SO the real question is a switch will solve my problems? If so, please recommend me some brands or specs.
Its a real dam shame i cant harness all those flops i have at my disposal.

    • RE: Batch rendering?

      It is very simple.
First you set up your scenes in sketchup.
      Scene1 scene2 scene 3 etc
In some older version of vray the scene 1 will be rendered 2 times in version 1.49.01 this no longer happens.

In sketchup go to view/animation/settings enable scene transition with 0 seconds.
And below that put the scene delay to 1 second.

Now in vray option be sure to have batch render enabled (options/globalsiwtches/batch render)
Then go to the output section, select render output save and name the file whatever you want, i always use simple things like A,B or C.
Below select animation on, instead of NTSC select in the frame rate custom, fps=1 and enable the include frame number thingie.

    • RE: Adding background to a landscape

There are several ways of doing so.

      1. Add the bg in post, using something like photoshop
      2. Add a vray infinite plane acting as a "wall" behind your landscape (paint it with a sky bitmap)
      3. Add a bg in eviromental setting.

      Lets go with option 3.

First you go to the vray options.
Then is Enviroment>BG color (there should be a rectangle with a m)
Once you click on thet m you can choose from the list located in the left, textsky or textbitmap.
Textsky will render a bg according to your hour/date (no clouds).
If you choose textbitmap select in the uvw type uvwtextenviroment.
You will need a big image or you will notice huge pixels in the sky.
At last textbitmap bg will come out very dark using physical camera be sure to bump the multiplier to something like 10~15.

    • RE: How to Speed up Render Time?

My money is the pc is running out of ram.
How much ram do you have?
If you have more than 4gb then i would suggest to do the LAA thingie (large addres aware).
You can download it from here. (http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556)
You can try too "cook" your light engines (IR LC or QM) for separated.
30 minutes is NOT that much time.
I used to render on a E8400, final renders took up to 3 hrs.

      Better late than never.
I have had this very same problem too.
The only thing that i can think of to fix it is navigate through
      c:/program data/ASGVIS/vrayforsketchup/Textures
and locate the file Google Earth Snapshot and deleted it.
That way vray will be forced to create a new file.
Or at least i think it will.

    • Vray animation

      Hi im back.

Lately ive been bussy working for a small contracting company.
Ive done tons of renders but now we are TRYING to giving the next step and now im making animations using vray and sketchup.

      You can watch them here.

All the feedback tips and such will be much apreciated.

    • RE: New Computer Q's

From what ive seen sketchup can only use 2 gigs of ram, there are a couple of patches floating around the web that addres that "problem" because there are no x64 version of sketchup, although im not certain if they are a reliable solution i havent use them myselft.
Now, the having a dual core may have not give the best performance on rendering, but if u have a high clockspeed and a wide FSB you should be all right, something around 3+ Ghz and a 1033FSB should be more than enough.
And the 8800gtx is a pretty solid GPU to use with sketchup, but you may want to tune up your nvidia control panel settings, remember Sketchup runs on opengl so try to keep the extension limiti off and the maximum pre-rendered frames to 1. That have worked for me.

Aside from the hardware you will find software limitations.

I have an E8550 OC @3.5Ghz, 3 gigs of ram and a 275GTX and like i said Sketchup is software bound.

    • RE: How to make it real?

I was hoping a CTRL+ALT+MAGIC way of solving things.
Im building a new model, i have already the plans by free hand (real life hand not the SU tool)
Im not happy of doing it with shipping containers (not much of a trend guy), but wth i need a project made with recycled mats.
I dont know if ill be able to finish the model, alongside i have to make some sort of documentation.
And i've seen your work and your a PRO at it (no, really you make a living out of it).
SO what if u help me out on this one thom?
I swear im a fast learner.
god i forgot to put the BG channel :D
Here we have a VERY general view of the "project". I need to add a couple of things in the main volume, before i could start thinkin into interiors.
The basic idea is using the wind to create a low preasure vortex to extract the warm air inside the house, use of solar gains to circulate air, natural light all around and stuff.

      Thx for your time.

    • RE: Photo-Match or Extrude from GE

      Im back.
So im gonna keep it simple.
Here we have a model, lets say we dont know the height of it.
      puntos de fuga 01.jpg

The first step is prolong the horizontal lines of the body. they eventually will converge in ONE point, i called it X'
I used a ground line H0, the dude who is gonna give me the reference H1, the first "floor" H2 and the second "floor" H3.
      Dibujo.jpg

Then you draw an vertical line, H-line (height line), the size of the line H1 will be our reference, we all know that dude is 175 cm. so the real size of the H-line intersect by H0 and H1 will be our first height reference.
Now the real size of the H-line being intersect by H0 and H2 will be our second reference. You measure the size of H-line between H0 and H1 and repeat with the size of H-line between H1 and H2, i measure it with a ruler ON my monitor (lol) i got a ratio of 1:0.7 wich means for one dude the first floor in that pic will grow 1.7 times the dude. 175cm (our dude reference)x1.7 (the H0-H1, H0-H2 ratio) = 297.something cm.
Wich its pretty acurate considering the real height is 300cm. the you just repeat for H0-H1, H0-H3.

Im sorry if its not THAT clear, like i said i dont know the translation of many descriptive geometric related words.

Actually there is another method, and its pretty acurate.
Thing is you need to know some descriptive geometry.
There are... you know what? i only know the names in spanish so im gonna go away for a while and draw an image for you

    • RE: How to make it real?

Thx for the feedback and thx for the support.
I know ho to make the scene more real (or kind of) what i want to know are settings.

Here let me show with this simple scene.

The first one is the Vray defualt
      default.png

This one is the Vray Sketchup default.
      sketch default.png

Next is the High IR setting.
      mapa de irradiancia alto.png

As you can see, the High IR outputs a better result.
So my question stills the same, how can you make a more realistic render? using physical camera? adding more subdivs? montecarlo is better than IR? how many passes of IR? etc etc.

well the mat you are trying to use is for 3dstudio, the file u get contains the settings in the diffuse refrac reflex and other stuff, many of those settings can be reproduced on vray for sketchup, OR u can look for a similar mat here on a vray for sketchup specific mat library http://software.asgvis.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=439&Cctitle=Architectural

    • RE: Photo-Match or Extrude from GE

Well i´d use some common sense and standars.

What i mean is regular doors are 2.10m tall, the height is something of 2.60m + concrete slab thicknes aprox 0.15m, giving a story height of 2.60m~2.75m etc etc

And you can see a garage door and a stair that should be a good point of comparison add some perspective to it and thats all.

Well that works for me most of the times and btw those are standar measures in mexico city 😆
