This is one of those hidden secrets that you find only if you keep up with the forum or read su manuals. Also did you know that you can scale in the x,y,z direction to an actual size, i.e. say you make a box a random size, just group it double click, select all, activate scale command, pull grip in any direction, don't worry about scale at this point, now look at vcb box, say you want you cube (or any object, cube in this example) to be 1'x3'x5'. Enter w/o quotes "1',3',5'" in VCB box, where 1' = x direction, 2'= y direction and 5'= z direction. you can change this info dynamically as long as you do not enter a another command:fro:

RE: Shuttle
What do you mean in between projects Your so fast they can't keep up with.
These are excellent works. Congratulations! Personally I think you have outgrown this board. Your are an inspiration to all here so don't leave -
RE: Script, Rounded Corners
Look up k-tools ruby. Under geometry/ round edge. It will do what you are asking.

RE: Machine design
Hello Roger,
Does scaling your studio to the model have a effect on the rendering out come or is it relative? I.e if my model does not fit in your scene, can I rescale your setup proportionally to fit the model?

RE: Commercial Office Developments
Andre these are very nice. How did you do your exterior lighting? Is this an HDR map?

RE: [Tutorial] How to Model Complex Curved Faces
Thanks all! Howard Leslie, I think i'll try the bezier curve method to draw the edges and see what I get. I still haven't seen any tuts that allow control of the curve.
This would be an improvement in my curvy modeling skills if I can figure this one out.
understanding how to do more curvy things was one of my goals for thsi year
I'm arware of the soapskins powers. It's the curve edge that I need to control and bezier just may give me that I hope.
My assumed method is as follows.- located columns in plan.
- draw columns as one line initially (to be line2cylinder later)at given length.
- tilt column to desired degree.
- rotate column to desired degree.
- connect tops of lines with bezier curve using one of the bezier scripts?
- after edges are designed used sopaskin (it's a beautiful thing!) to create mesh.
- smooth mesh.
Is this the way to execute? If I have missed something let me know. I'll try it when I have time tonight.

Extend end of arc
Still searching for a ruby that extends the end of an arc as in autocad to a inferred plane or selected entity? Is there such a ruby?

RE: Curved_slanted_wall
Hello Jean,
How would you get your method to rise from a low point to high point. One advantage of your solution is the wall is same thickness from top to bottom.

RE: AutoCAD to SketchUP - problems with curved surfaces
Thanks Gaieus,
I am aware of the weld ruby. I guess in order to turn an exploded arc back into and arc one would just have to trace over the 3 points again. I'm also assumming that there are cases where you want to keep an arc as an arc and not segmented lines or a weld of segmented lines.

RE: Curved_slanted_wall
Thanks Guy's, not to get to far off base but how come autocad, desktop and revit don't have a forum like this? They could learn a lot from this place.
cheers! -
RE: AutoCAD to SketchUP - problems with curved surfaces
Is there a ruby script that would change the faceted edges into an arc or circle when selected? Or maybe su could maintain arcs and circles as just that. Is this an autocad problem not playing nice with SU?

RE: Component Spray Tool released
Fantasitc script DB! Tip to those trying out for the first time.
You must have a plane or surface below to get results. -
RE: Curved_slanted_wall
Great explaination on that scaling issue. I figued this was the case your explaination reaffirmed. Thanks!
On the "contour from scratch" I just selected the top edge of the wall and used SU's contour from scratch. From first glance it seamed to work fine with a little clean up.
I will look at it again.@dtracrh,
My walls would be titlted out ward as it follows the path. However, I would be interested in
what method you chose to arrive at your conclusion. -
RE: Error msg
Guess who the biggest offender was with pop ups and virus...NORTON!
Removing Norton solve many of my problems . Ofcourse I replaced it with free shareware virus protection and spam protection.
My computer is running very smoothly these day's, and yes I do need to clean up the desktop.
I was told that this will speed up the computer. (the question is by how much?) -
RE: Exterior building
Nice rcossoli! Did you model the joints in teh surfaces or are they textured?
Also, I would eliminate the curb between the drive ways. -
RE: Curved_slanted_wall
Wo3Dan great job. One tip though, would it not be easier to use the contour from scratch in lieu of hand stitching? Just have to erase to to clean up excess.

RE: Intersect with model
The floor plan was drawn in autocad and them imported in SU. The walls were then drawn on top of cad with the rectangle tool. I then made a slab/ floor with thickness hoping to intersect with the walls which should facilitate texturing separate floor areas. I'll try and post the model when I figure out how to link a large file. I suprised no one has run in to this problem. The surface does not always clean up-some lines are thick (which means not cutting the plane in su or not intersecting) and some are thin. There is always some trace over that has to be done after intersecting.
BTW I am aware of stray lines and intersect ruby's to check. Even these are no garantees at times to indicate all is well.
