Hi
I always liked the furry carpets, because they give that extra realistic touch. I tried a few times with no success.
Today I wanted to give it another go.
I tried different approaches.
The first one was to make a carpet myself.
It sounds really easy. You make a rectangle and you apply a fur material.
The material I made was with a falloff map in the diffuse, using a dark grey and white.
It had a displacement map on it (tried noise and splat), you tweak the size and amplitude.
I unchecked "use globals" and changed the edge length to 2 in the displacement properties.
(I know that reducing the edge length will increase render time)
I pressed render and the building light cache took forever. I had to cancel it after 2 hours. I think it just hung.
The second approach was to download an example. (sketchuptexture.com/2013/07/free-sketchup-3d-model-fur-carpet.html)
When i tried to render it, it had the same result. I lowered the light cache to 2 subdivs just to see.
It went trough, but result was afoul of course.
Is it normal that it takes more then 2 hours to go through the building light cache step?
Are there other methods? ( I got skatter)
Any tips??
I got i7 4930K, 32 gb ram and gtx 1080.
I hope it's just a bug or something stupid I forgot.
