    • Sketchup colors to textures

      Hi

Is there a way to convert the sketchup colors to textures?
This has to do with export to obj.

If I import an obj with only the sketchup coloring then the colors wont be recognized and my obj has only one color.
When I make tiny jpg with the same color and apply them as texture the obj file will be recognized with these textures.

Thus is there a way to convert them easly?

    • RE: 2many faces

      @dave r said:

The first thing I would do is run ThomThom's CleanUp3 and let it erase coplanar edges.

It reduces the filesize, but the small faces are not coplanar. So it did clean some stuff, but not enough to make it workable.
Is there a plugin that makes 1 face from faces that are next to eachother and with an angle below some value?

I have a model from 3Dscandata. The ceiling from the building is made of thousands of faces. Is there a way to significantly reduce them?
This model is not workable. It's an ifc export from Revit.

    • Vray 3.4 render problem

      Hi

I just converted to vray 3.4, well I'm testing it.

I was messing around with the light in the corner. Adjusting te intensity and size.
When all of a sudden the rendering really got strange.

As you can see in the picture something is really going wrong and I have no clue whatsoever.

      Anybody that can help?

      2017-07-31 00_35_06-V-Ray frame buffer - [50% of 1920 x 1080].png

Another question. I made a lot of models in v2. When I try to render these I got really big problems with lightning. I can't get the sun or an HDRI to work. Only made lights work.

Is there something simple to do so that they keep working?

    • Problems with fur/carpet rendering - sketchup 2016 vray 2

      Hi

I always liked the furry carpets, because they give that extra realistic touch. I tried a few times with no success.
Today I wanted to give it another go.

      I tried different approaches.

The first one was to make a carpet myself.
It sounds really easy. You make a rectangle and you apply a fur material.
The material I made was with a falloff map in the diffuse, using a dark grey and white.
It had a displacement map on it (tried noise and splat), you tweak the size and amplitude.
I unchecked "use globals" and changed the edge length to 2 in the displacement properties.
(I know that reducing the edge length will increase render time)

I pressed render and the building light cache took forever. I had to cancel it after 2 hours. I think it just hung.

The second approach was to download an example. (sketchuptexture.com/2013/07/free-sketchup-3d-model-fur-carpet.html)

When i tried to render it, it had the same result. I lowered the light cache to 2 subdivs just to see.
It went trough, but result was afoul of course.

Is it normal that it takes more then 2 hours to go through the building light cache step?
Are there other methods? ( I got skatter)
      Any tips??

      I got i7 4930K, 32 gb ram and gtx 1080.

I hope it's just a bug or something stupid I forgot.

I tried this, my computer was stuck on the building light cache step.
I've got a potent pc, so i dont know what's causing it...

    • RE: Vray doesnt render objects (v 20025244)

You can ignore this post, I just found a solution.
I copy pasted the whole model in a new Sketchup file.
I guess this removes unused materials.

    • Vray doesnt render objects (v 20025244)

I made an interior scene and copy pasted quit a few things (groups) from previous scene's.
When I render the scene I see only the floor and walls. No object is visible.

Does this have something to do with groups or materials?

I used "bomb all" to explode every group, but then my scene takes forever in 'preparing vray to render' state.

      Hellow

Can you modify your texture to go around a half circle.
You can see my problem on the picture below. The straight pieces are no problem.

    • RE: Windows look awful / too dark

      @pbacot
It was indeed a black hole. The whole building was a group and I accidentally painted the whole group with a dark material. So all the standard (white) material was replaced.

I also replaced the glass material with another one.

I'm pretty happy with the result now.

Interior is empty except the curtains. I dont want the interior to show a lot, because it's an exterior render.
The material is the Translucent_Glass_Gray from sketchup with a reflective and refractive layer added in vray materials.

    • Hedges and roofs

I found this on the internet. (not my work it's from immo Danneels)

      roof.jpg

I like this roofing a lot, but I dont know how they make it. Do they find this on the interwebs or did they make it themselfs? They got a nice solution for the ridge and on the side the tiles are wrapped around the edge.

In my last project I found a texture online and made a displacement map for it. On the edges I tried to make custom tiles (arrow). I like the result but its a lot of work and still doens't look as professional as theirs.

      roof0.jpg

The same with hedges. The ones I got from SU Podium dont look nice.

    • Windows look awful / too dark

      Hi

In my new project I'm using a vray dome light in combination with an HDRI. I'm pretty pleased with it accept with the windows.

Below you can see my render. The windows are too dark. How can I solve this?
Do I put some lights in the building, do I have to change the angle of the sun so the glass reflects more, do I have to use double glazing, do I lower the transparency...
I did put a 180° background behind the camera to hopefully catch some reflection, but it didn't work.

Thx for the advise. I'll keep it in mind.

I read somewhere that it can occur when there's not enough light.

    • Weird material reflections - vray 2.00.26579

I've got some weird reflections on materials.
On the picture you'll see the different problems.

      weird reflections.jpg

The first one is with the wood material. It reflects witch all this tiny spots.

The second one is with the wall tiles. There is some weird reflection in the tile seams. It's a bumped material.

The third one is with the light armature.

The fourth one is on the shadow on the wall. It not very smooth but pixelated. Has it to do with the subdivs of the shadow in the vray lights?

I posted the specs for the wood and the tiles.

      update

I know that the subdivs in the glossiness makes a difference, but I changed them from 8 to 64.
The first picture was renderd with the settings at 8.
Still not happy with the result. So maybe there is something else...

    • RE: Help: White Splotches in Render

When I got blotches I tweak 3 things.

Decrease the noise treshold in the DMC sampler
Increase the HSph. subdivs in the irridiance map (to 100)
Increase the Interp. samples in the irridiance map (to 50)

The rendertime will increase, but the blotches will be gone 😄
You can experiment with the settings...

    • RE: Workflow - rendering small rooms

@JQL As I said I was thinking about section planes, but I dont think the walls cut by the plane will show up in the mirror reflection. I'll try it...

@Peerman If you see the layout of the room, it's clearly the best angle to capture the most of the bathroom. Standing in the door is working around the problem not solving the problem.

      THX for the tips!

I'll probably extent the wall with the door and put the camera over there as I have done before.
