Impressive how the "simple" geometry turns out with textures!
Thanks for your kind words, Carsten!

The texturing is great, with plenty of variation giving it life.
But I'm guessing most of it is painted in PS (like scrathes and highlighted areas).
Glad you like the texturing, Adorno. The SketchUp model is actually fully textured and rendered with V-Ray for SketchUp. I did the glows, high lights, scratches in PS postwork.
Here's a visual development I did a few months ago. I imported the SketchUp models into Lumion3D, rendered the image and did some PS postwork. The helicopter is from FormFonts. The boats are from Lumion3D.
I did the offshore oil rig and used one of my submarine models.
Hope you like it.
Have a great day!

Awesome renders, Edvinas.

I should have adjusted the bulb, but those lights do, in fact, exist... http://www.maxinc.co.uk/images/maxfrontpagelamp.jpg
I worked on these for three 8 hour days with a bunch of revisions... Trying to make the studio happy.
Thanks for the lamp info, Jason. And sorry for the wrong name. I somehow had Mark from marked001 in my head.
Yes, reducing the bulb will bring it to a more human scale.
Three days working full time on it is pretty fast. How much did you have to build from scratch?
Cheers!

Just wow on those buildings! You could definitely be an architect, but I think you will be happier if you don't and stick to what you are doing. Would love to see large pictures of the house. This and the fantasy work is re-inspiring me to model more (outside of work).
Thanks for your kind comments, Peter.
I actually graduated from architecture school and worked as an architectural designer for about 5 years. I was in charge of conceptual and schematic designs and design development of projects; presentations and meetings with clients; and design boards for competitions.
I loved to draw and wanted to work as an artist for video games and movies ever since I was a little kid. That's why I quit my architecture job to make the dream of my childhood come true.
Here are some more hotel concepts for Simcity.
Have a great weekend!

Taking what Ken is saying ones step further would be exporting your toolbar setup to load on another computer. Or as part of different setups, as with the new "sets" in the SU store plugin.
+1
That would be ideal for people using both work and home computers.
@dave r said:
Frankly, I like the toolbars handling much more in SU2013. I haven't had a single instance of scrambled toolbars which was a common occurrence in SU8.
Dave, I totally agree with you. The new system does fix the scrambled toolbar problem in SU8. However, they removed the "Load saved toolbar" function. One might think, who needs it if SU2013 fix the scrambled toolbars, right? Well, you will need it if you encounter the new issue I talked about when I started this thread. When you click on an icon and move/drag it by mistake, you will lose the toolbar set that the icon belongs to. With "the Load saved toolbar", you can fix that issue by one click of the mouse. Without it, it's kind of time consuming to find the icons and put them back.
With the new toolbars handling, I was hoping that SU2013 would keep the "Load saved toolbars" too, therefore we would have the best of both worlds.
Have a good one,
_KN
Nice modeling and rendering, Mark.
How long did it take you to do all of them?
My only concern is the lamp in the third image. That type of lamp looks like a small desk lamp. I was like, wow that's a huge lamp with a giant bulb.
Good day to you!
_KN
Nice modeling and rendering, Box.
I like the night view better. The afternoon view seems a little bit flat and need more contrast, IMO. Is that a raw render or have you done any postworks? I would suggest to add some level adjustment in Photoshop or any other photo editing software you use.
Cheers!

Nice models and renders, jo-ke.
My only concern is the lack of shadows or the shadows are too light maybe. Therefore, the objects seem to be floating, not connected to the table, IMO.
Good day!

Hi Jacob,
Very nice model.
I am into game/sci-fi modeling and rendering, and I don't do architectural renderings for a living, although it is something I'd like to do if I have time. But I wanted to give it a try and see how I can help you with your images.
Don't worry too much about how the raw renders turn out from Thea, V-Ray, or any other rendering engines. All professionals will do postwork in Photoshop.
I tried to create some photographic effects here.
Photoshop Curves was used to add brightness and contrast to the images. I used some filter to pop the details a little bit more as well as add some photographic effects.
Finally, I put in some glares for the lights.
It took me about 1.5 hour.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

That's cool, Bryan.
Maybe add some glowing effects around your yellow light(windows?) in Photoshop...and some aliens coming out of the spaceship?
"Take me to your leader"
Good day to you!

Hi Scott,
Cool containers. Are you planning on texturing them?
You wrote that you use Sketchup for game or sci-fi modeling. May I ask what game(s) are you working on?
Have a great day!

Hi Habbaz,
Welcome to Sketchucation.
Very nice render. My only comment is about the carpet. I looks like white grass coming out of the hardwood floor.
Have a great day!

Hi there,
Here's a personal project. I did a few of these sci-fi interior concepts. I posted a couple of them before and will post some more later.
SketchUp + V-Ray for SketchUp + Photoshop
Hope you like it.
Have a great day!

Bryan: Sorry that you could not see my images.
Gabor: I got your private message. I have been using Photobucket to post images on Sketchucation for years now and did not have the problem of slow loading. It seems like this issue is happening a few times lately the past few weeks though.
Have you tried the other thread, The Art of SketchUp - part 2: Sci-Fi" topic?
http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=27030&start=180
It is very similar to "The Art of SketchUp - part 1: Fantasy" topic with lots of pages and images, but the images seem to load quite faster.
I am not a tech guy, so I don't know much about web hosting sites. I mainly use Photobucket. Does anyone have other suggestions?
Gabor mentioned to me about attaching the images. What is the maximum image size?
Thanks!

Ken, your work is fantastic. It would be nice to see all these buildings assembled in a scene.
>> Thank you, Daniel. Actually, you can see some of these buildings in a scene by searching images for Simcity 5. You should see lots screen grabs from the game and might recognize some of my buildings.

hello mr.Ken . I stumbled across this topic of yours tonight and couldn't help myself writing this reply . Basically , I'm amazed by your works , I read them all from the beginning and I just want to let you know that you just gave me a lot of thoughts and inspirations . I also noticed that this topic is made 3 years ago and the newest post was just 3-4 days ago . Isn't that cool that a topic could live this long ? This fantastic topic have been going strong for 3 years and i wish your work is going well and you can keep inspiring more people like me by showing more of your beautiful works and keeping this topic alive forever
little question : are you Vietnamese ? cause that would make you super awesome in my book of inspiration !
**>> Thank you very much, Green. Please call me Ken. I really appreciate your kind words. I am always happy to see that other people are inspired by my work and learn and enjoy my models as much as I learn from other's wonderful models and renders.
To answer your question: Yes, I am originally from Vietnam. With a last name like Nguyen, it's not hard to guess. However, I left the country when I was 4 back in the late 70s. I actually grew up in Paris/France, then moved to the USA. I am therefore a dual French/US citizen.
Alright, here are some more concepts I did for Simcity 5.
This one if one of my favorites. This is actually my future house whenever Electronic Arts pays me $$$$$ in royalties for helping them designing tons buildings for their game...j/k **
Below are some luxury boutiques. I did post them before, but they were the wrong images (older versions). These are the final approved concepts.
I also have added the different designs. I usually do 15 different concepts for each category.
**Hope you like them.
Have a great day!

Hey John,
I actually forgot to reply to your question "Anyone want a fight?" in my earlier post.
So how about I send in my alien spaceships? But to be fair, I will have my other military submarines and planes to help out your HMS Hood fight the alien invasion?
How does it sound? Ready for war?
Have a great day!
