    • RE: Purge material or find material

      Thanks everyone for your reply.

I had a model that I wanted to export to CAD. I wanted to make the file smaller, so I purge all unused components, then purge unused materials. However, in the material browser I found about 30 materials that did not purge. Now, since I purged all unused components, I would have thought that selecting the whole model, I would have purge all materials. Didn't happen.

So I used TomTom Material Tools. This plugin purged all materials expect one yellow. That I just deleted.

So I was wondering if there was a plugin that would find the component that was using a selected material. Just wanted to see where the material was hiding.

I would have search the Ruby Library Depot, however the server seems to be down.

My real problem is in SU 2014 I can't seem to export to CAD without hidden lines being shown. I can do this in SU 2013 but not in SU 2014. Yes the settings seem to be the same. And yes I have requested help from Thrimble's SU 2014 team.

      So thanks for your replies.

    • Purge material or find material

I have a model that I purged all the materials. In the model it looks like all material have been purge. However when you look at the material drop down lists there are many materials still in the file.

Just wondering, don't want anyone to work on this, is there a plugin that will find a material if I select the material on the material in model list.

Yes, I have looked at the components, they seem to be free of materials.

    • ACAD Export 2014 and 2013

Not sure if this is a bug. If I export ACAD in 2014, the ending ACAD file shows hidden lines, if I export the same model in 2013, I don't see hidden lines.

Now, as far as I can see the export options are set the same.

See the attached png images, a screen copy of the exported ACAD files of the same model and same settings.

So is this a bug or am I missing something?

    • Calculator plugins

Lately I have seen numerous attempts in writing a plugin calculator. Not to take away from the fun in writing a scrip to do calculations, however there is a better way if you have a window machine.

The program Calc98, is a small calculator that will pop up on your display, has an "always on top" option. Does conversions, and so on. Look at the screen grab.

And the best, it is free.

The version I bought, 2011 and upgraded oin 2012, does not load in SKP 2014. And I looked at your site, there doesn't seem to be an upgrade that will load in 2014. So do I have to buy another to get a version that will load in SKP 2014?

Note, I miss not having the program in 2014. "PIA" to save go to 2013, test than back to 2014.

      Thanks for your plugin

      Jim

Is there anyway to add the date, or a version #, such as, ??????_SU8_03_12_14 or ??????SU8_V_01?

That would prevent writing over the file.

Well, that is a problem. I use PicPick to make a screen capture and input the image into Sketchup and use the image as a guide.

Note, PicPick is great for taking screen shots of your Sketchup model to send to others that have an interest in your project.

    • RE: Installing Store 2.6

      Jim and Rich

Thanks for the reply. I did find install the extensions option, however, it was at a directory which I knew I didn't want to install those files. However, I didn't think about changing to another directory. So my bad.

Re-installed the "store" from the extension install option. It did work. Now I just need to clean up my plugin directory, as I have a directory I need to remove.

      And thanks for the replies.

    • Installing Store 2.6

Ok, I have decided to take my daughter's laptop to Base Camp. Don't wish to lose the work laptop. Her HD went out and I replaced the HD and did a new install of Windows Home Premium.

So, I wanted to install 2014 on the laptop. I did that, no problems. So then I wanted to install store so I could use the bundle option to set up this 2014 like my 2014 on the deck top.

OK, so if you don't have the store installed, how do you install the store?

This is how I did it. I downloaded the plugin. Now it is in your downloads, you copy and paste the file to your 2014 plugin folder, way down in the deep depths of the computer. Now, you have a RBZ file. Now I know I can change the RBZ to a Zip and extract. However when you do that the files are not loaded in the correct locations. Re-arranged the files in the correct location. Have store working now.

So, I got it done. However, if you wish for the RBZ file to be easy and fool proof to install, it looks to me, they should be someway to install the "store" on a brand new setup without going though all this.

      Or, have I missed something?

Following in the footsteps of Adobe and Microsoft.

      April Fool.

No, I had started some modeling using PNG images. I always put the images on a layer so I can turn the images off and on. I was starting to model when I noticed the problem. So I erased everything, trying to find out what the problem was. So when I sent the files the images layers where turned off.

Nothing get by. Thanks for you reply.

      Ken

Well, darn I downloaded the file to see what images I had left in the model. There were no images. So I don't know what the problem is with the file size. Does seem a tad bit large.

Umm Ken, take a 1mx1mx1m cube, scale by 10 it becomes a 10mx10mx10m cube, scale by 0.1 it becomes a 1mx1mx1m cube again. Or am I doing something wrong with my mathematics.

Nope, your right. My bad, I was doing %, so I was stuck between, 100% and 200%, as I was just trying to make a small adjustment. However, it you go to 10 times, then .1 will get you back to the original.

Caught with my math pants down.

      Thanks for clarification and correction.

    • RE: Volume Models get destroyed by some volume functions

Note, scaling up by 10 or 100, you will find it hard to scale back to the original size. If you scale up by 25%, "OrignalPartSize" x 1.25 then you can downscale by 80%, "NewPartSize" x 0.80 and you will be at the same size as the beginning size.

I believe this is the only whole number scale factor that upscaling and downscaling will arrive at the original size without getting into decimal scaling.

I have modified a ruby script to do this, upscale by 1.25%, downscale by 80%. If 1.25% is not large enough, I do the upscale a couple of times, just remembering the total times upscaling, then downscale the same number of times.

I find this script a real help in using 3d text, I input the text, upscale or downscale until I get the size I wish.
