    • Maxwell render plug-in render test

      Hi,

Apologies that this isn't being posted on Maxwell Render forums but I am having trouble posting anything on there for some reason... If anyone knows how I can get this sorted please let me know.

Anyhow, I have recently been using the plug-in to expand my rendering skills, yet i believe i'm a fair way away from mastering this in depth programme! I have bought the plug-in (and have a 30 day trial for the studio) and have got some basics sorted.

However, I've already discovered that something can't be quite right as I have had to use about 80 LEM's (400mm x 400mm) with a huge wattage (25,000 watts each) for a visual of a small speakers stage project. The scale of the drawing I think is right but the lEM quantity doesn't seem right.

The other issue which is really tackling my brain is how to get the gloss/ shimmer effect on materials so they have more reflectance. I have dropped the roughness to 0 and the nd around 2... how can get more of a shine without photoshopping!!

I have attached a visual of the original render, and it's the white goalpost which i want shiny, and the overall lighting to be brighter. I was quite happy with the overall resolution (did it to max 1920 res) but have attached lower res jpeg.

      Thank you

    • RE: Modelling a curved stairway

Thanks Toby, can i ask which sets of plugins you needed to do all of those commands? I currently have 1001 bit, weld, shape bender and podium. Sounds like i need some more!

For example where are these from:

      tool on surface offset
      joint push pull
      projections tools

      Thanks again for your help.

    • Modelling a curved stairway

      Hi,

I am having some difficulty with modelling the attached sketch up file. I am trying to build the underside of a curved set of stairs, and the upstand for the balustrade so that it covers the stairs which i modelled. I can't work out how to get the curved sloping 'ramp' to be thicker, or how to add the balustrade upstand.

I have attached an earlier scheme image so you can see what it's supposed to look like...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

      Thanks,
      Jonathan

    • New licence for sketch up

      Hi,

At my current company we have one licence (pro 7) which i have solely been using but now we have a new employee who needs to use the pro version as well. However as we have discovered it doesn't allow both of us to work easily at the same time with the same licence.

Do we need to buy another single licence (pro 8 as current) or is there an additional package we can purchase for one other person to be able to use.

      Thanks,

      Jonathan

    • Sketch up liscense

      Hi

I have a sketch up 7 pro liscense on my work desktop. I want to put the pro version onto my laptop, but as version 8 is out now, it won't let me download it because the verification codes need to be updated.

How do i go about this? I would be happy to have the version 7 if it is possible.

      Thanks,

      Jonathan

    • RE: Extruding on curved surfaces

I have installed the progress bar and the notice no longer appears for shape bender (although there is still a notice for 1001 bit loader which i can't seem to resolve).

However, i still have the same problem when i follow the instructions.

      Please see attachment.

      Thanks

      Hi Charly,

It must be something to do with my shape bender plugin... i get this notification every time i load up sketch up (see attachment).

When it says choose a line on the red axis, i try to follow the instructions and nothing seems to happen.

Should i try unistall shape bender and reinstall it?

      Thanks

      Hi,

I have tried using the shape bender tool but i'm not sure if the plugin is not working properly or if i am just doing something wrong.

I understand that you are supposed to select a group or component before clicking on the plugin symbol, yet once i've selected the group (the patterned screen) and then click on the plugin, nothing seems to happen.

      Can you advise?

      Thanks

    • Extruding on curved surfaces

      Hi,

I am trying to extrude a pattern that i have imported into sketchup onto a curved surface. How do you do this? Currently i have only been able to map a jpeg texture to the curved surface but require the pattern to be extruded so that the pattern is see through in places.

I have uploaded a model to explain...

      Thanks.

    • RE: Dimension snapping

      hi b,

i tried that but i find when i zoom out of the model to my desired camera view (which is a plan) the dimensions are in inconvenient places and when i want to relocate the dimension you can't move without changing the snapping positions and hence the figure you need. annoying!

Also i find that when i go back to my desired view it doesn't always turn out with the dimension that it said within the sketch up model? wierd!

i might have to continue with dodgy dimensioning, god dam!

      Thanks Gaieus,

yes indeed sometimes you can never be sure what it is snapping too, the devious tool that it is! i will try your techniques out.

    • Dimension snapping

      Hi,

I'm trying to annotate and take dimensions off my sketch up model in layout but am finding that the snaps are a little inconsistent. How can i take a dimension off a plan for example with the guarentee that it is taking it off the same axis?

      Thanks,

      Jonathan

    • Line quality

      Hi,

I am a novice at Layout 2.1 and am curious as to why i can't get a great line quality when importing a model into layout. Is there any way of getting a crisper line from a model?

Also could you explain what the raster setting means as opposed to 'vector' or 'hybrid' in the sketch up model toolbar in the tray?

      Thanks,

      Jonathan

    • Top plug-in list

      Hi,

I recently had to have my entire computer re-built. A painful consequence in having to reload everything! And not just Sketch up!

In the process i have forgotton some of the plug-ins which i had, which included Podium and a line curving one (the name escapes me)... Can anyone give me a good list of some of the necessary plug ins which are helpful for doing general interior modelling/ rendering in SU. (If it's not too cheeky, a little explanation of what each one does and where it can be found would be very helpful)

      Many thanks.
