      and they always need more.

what will this tower do for them? something to run up and down ?

This tower will hopefully be one of the iconic structures which helps to build a successful Olympic Games. It will give visitors to the game a fantastic vista over the Olympic Park and over towards the London skyline.

Billions will be spent hosting the games. Hundreds of millions have been spent for athletic facilities throughout the UK. To suggest that spending Β£20m or so on an iconic tower means that the priorities lay away from athletics is ludicrous.

      so.
they'll spend 19 million on that...

but the Athletes that make up the UK team could use the money in the form of facilities to train in.

hmm. shows where the priorities are.

There's probably been at least a few hundred million been spent on athletics training facilities over the last decade.

    • RE: Concept art / matte paintings with SketchUp

For the CL stadium, what are the long blue things hanging from the roof? As a football fan the last thing I'd want to see is something blocking my view of the pitch.

Did you create the CL stadium, or did you just do the artwork to someone else's instructions?

I especially like seeing the images. I'm a big football fan (I'm a Chelsea fan so I can't say I'm any fan of UEFA πŸ˜‰ ) and was intrigued by the CL stadium - the huge size makes it look as if it holds at least 500,000 people. The roof, even though it's completely impractical looks awesome every time I've seen it on TV.

How involved are you in the projects? Do you just come up with the concept art or are you also involved in creating the ads/shows for TV?

Go to Window > Preferences > Drawing

The Continue line drawing box may be checked.

The only option checked on mine is Auto Detect. That works well for me.

Judging it from the renderings I think it looks ugly. But I think a structure like this could easily be let down by the basic rendering provided. How it appears in reality, at different times of the day, could be massively different.

That being said, I still don't think much of this sculpture. I've seen him featured in TV programmes before and I've seen his Chicago mirrored sculpture in many images. I don't really think much of his sculpures. I think his Chicago sculpture is very beautiful, but I think that cost something like 23 million pounds. Yes, I think it's beautiful, but it aint 23 million pounds worth of beautiful.

I also don't think this will be a viable, long term tourist attraction. The location will mean that after the games it barely covers the costs of keeping it open and maintained. In fact I'd guess that after 10 years of it costing a fortune to maintain, a part will fall off and it'll end up like the B of the Bang and scrapped.

    • RE: Putting non-buildings onto GE? Help please.

Whatever model you make can be placed on Google Earth. If you create a Borg ship, that can be placed on Google Earth, maybe hovering over the White House.

It will be accepted on to the 3D Warehouse, as long as it's not indecent, but it just won't be accepted on to the Google Earth 3D Buildings layer. But anyone looking on the 3DW will be able to download the model and see it on GE.

As you say, there are issues with being able to take a GE snapshot of areas too large, but these issues won't be too difficult to work out.

    • RE: Can't edit texture with a context click

If you've smoothed a face then the texture options won't come up.

What I'd do is draw another face directly above that face, the same size and dimensions. I'd sample the texture you're wanting, paint in on that face. Then you will be able to edit that face. Then when you're done, put that as a projected texture and you'll be able to paint the desired face with your edited texture.

Is this supposed to be render to explain a layout of a shop, or is it supposed to be art?

Is it a WIP or finished work?

Is this to showcase the Emperor range of clothing?

It might be just me, but I'm getting nothing from that image. This is what the store looks like from the perspective of a child when half the lights are out and there's no stock in the shop. Erm, why'd I wanna see that?

Did Superman clean the building for you as well? πŸ˜‰

Think the renders are really good. Think that having the parking spaces directly leading onto the road would be a problem. So would having the huge wall blocking the parking spaces.

Start with SU 7 Free. See how far you can with that. It could be that the free version contains everything you need anyway.

In the future, if you find you do need the extra features of the Pro version, then look into buying it.

No point automatically assuming that you need the pro version because it could be that you don't.

I don't think anyone who is in a position to know when SU8 will be released is allowed to say so on here. There have been no rumours I've seen.

Have a quick look around the best rated, most popular of the models on there. Maybe check with with some of the people who are doing work to pro/near pro standards. Check with them whether they are getting paid or whether they are just doing it as a hobby.

Think he's just a dreamer who would end up wasting your time.

I'd be polite with him and not burn any bridges, but I wouldn't be doing lots of work for him expecting to get paid anytime soon.

We might not be in the same boat, John. I have this single face painted with the only (image) texture in this model and I get the "Edit texture image" item in both context click menus.

      [attachment=0:1mlmomtc]<!-- ia0 -->EditTexture.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1mlmomtc]

I've only just noticed this, but it is only the Colors, Colors Named and Markers which require Make Unique Texture for the face to be edited. Likewise, if you choose 3 faces on the same plane you'll be able to Combine Textures, but if those are painted with Colors or Markers, you won't. If you had 3 Colors and wanted to combine them to make a texture, you'd have to make one of the colors a unique texture first.

Is Make Unique Texture showing up under right click? You need to do that before the Texture Editing options will be shown on the default paints.

I've seen them on Pepsi bottles. I think they have something to do with Bluetooth, but as I don't have any Bluetooth devices or have been interested in any of the promotions I've never looked at how they work.

but the scale (to me) does not really matter.

That's a common problem with models on the 3D Warehouse. Too many people don't bother drawing their models to proper size which makes them unusable for anyone else. You might as well upload JPGs of your models to an online photo album then.

I feel your pain. You'll never get back those 3 seconds which it takes use the scale tool to make the model the correct size.
