for reflections, refractions, one can use maps as well. one can also use layers , creating reflection layer refraction layer and so on. do both ways work well and are the same or is there anything different. layers obviously show a lot more options...but i think that's an overkill isnt it?

and this cleanup plugin works perfectly when kept in isolation in a separate folder.
What do you mean by this? Can I see a screenshot of the plugins folder?
in isolation i mean if i create a new plugins folder, and install all the requisite ttlib and support files , the plugin works perfect

RE: [Plugin] CleanUp
clean with last settings works
the first option in which the menu should come "clean..." doesnt work. no error messages. iget the same blank box
all the options accessed via the drop down menu are taking my command. the first one in which the black menu comes isn't working. what is the conflict?

V-ray really is not a simple rendering engine. I would say that if you can get through the PDFs I posted and all the YouTube videos that Chaos has posted, you will be in good shape. Up.
where are the pdfs that you've posted.?? ..link please. Im mostly interested in lighting, coz that's the chief thing in renders, materials i know and r easy 2 setup

RE: [Plugin] CleanUp
i cant load cleanup properly. however if i create a separate folder with required ttlib, this plugin works perfectly.
my plugins list is here

whoa pretty detailed stuff. you know any link for a pdf? i want to dowload this , or any workaround to download the whole html linkable site in one go hehe!?
Hi, try search for "VRay 1.5 SP5 Offline Help.chm"

Marcelis there a better link/book/website for vray for sketchup tutorials.?? [ i tried videos, they aren't good]. I figured out that i wont be needing too much of technicalities, just simple plain settings information. like just changing some settings and rest keeping to default. reading too much will actually be a detailed research information overload bomb blast !

RE: Cannot change diffuse colour

make sure you are changing the color on the correct diffuse layer. If you have a material with more than one diffuse layer, it may be that the second one is controlling the color.
there's only one diffuse layer

Aspect ratio view?
The sketchup view is rectangular in shape. Often while working on views that have different view ratio like
My SU viewport is 777x584 and I want to render a middle portion of it lets say 500x500. Is there any way I can preview my current view that grays out rest of the model and shows the portion that has to be rendered in bright , (see image) -
RE: Exact effect of a 40 watt fluorescent light
wow thanks everyone for the replies. god!! thea, maxwell, I went to vray after seeing a lot of comparisons and videos on youtube. I have actually seen renders on net with that uniform light look just like we see in photographs. But im not able to achieve them. And I guess vray has been in the archviz industry for pretty long time, so that's why there must be way to create that soothing and even light effects in vray.
e.g. these photos
My image is still looking like a heavy light in a dark atmosphere.

RE: Exact effect of a 40 watt fluorescent light
that's not a solution. I tried using rectangular lights in the ceiling but the render isnt getting realistic.
what should i do? The fluorescent tubes are hidden in the scene. Here's the model

RE: Exact effect of a 40 watt fluorescent light
lol I'm using vray that's why i have posted my query here . Well if i make the material emissive where would i put the wattage then?

Cannot change diffuse colour
I have an orange leather vismat. If I try to change its diffuse colour in the vray material editor to to any other colour, it switches back to its original colour. This happens the moment I hit the preview button. What should I do to change the colour?
here's the file

RE: Exact effect of a 40 watt fluorescent light
here is the scene that i'm trying to render
Im trying to create tubelight with 2 rectangular lights [double sided] of 50 watts power each.

Exact effect of a 40 watt fluorescent light
How can I get exact lighting in my rendered view of a 40 watt cylindrical fluroscent tubelight?
Spot light is not an option. If I make a rectangular light, the lighting area would be a trapezium. Since a tubelight throws light in all the directions of its faces Is there any way to simulate the same effect in sketchup?
