      Another tip:

If you are repeating the same action over and over again, someone has probably already created a Ruby plugin to do it automatically for you.

    • RE: Overlaping Lines on the same plane that don't form faces?

The problem you are encountering is that you have not created a face, the curved lines are just hanging lines, their ends don't meet up with the ends of any other lines.

You could just select the two arches close to each other as well as the third one that they cut through and then "Edit -> Intersect -> Intersect with selected only". Delete the scrap ends of those curves and you have what you need.

Oh and a handy hint, if you end up with a heap of single lines instead of one continuous line then use the Weld plugin. There is also a "Explode Curve" plugin that does the opposite of Weld but I can't remember where I got it from.

    • RE: A couple more models

I decided to do slightly more challenging models that had more complex shapes than just straight lines. I got the plans for a rocking chair and decided to see how much time I spent creating the model.

All up with my experiments and mistakes it took me 3 1/2 hours. I didn't rush or reduce the accuracy because I knew I was timing it. This model is as good as my other models.

I'm not being critical, I'm only sharing the Gospel Truth. Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship with Jesus.

Like ex-smokers and ex-fatty's religious nuts just HAVE to tell everyone how fantastic their life is now and use the smallest excuse to try and convert anybody within earshot.

Like we don't already know we should quit and eat more healthy, yes you simpleton we all know the bible exists, we have heard the Jesus myths, yes your life is just so great after you quit/lost weight/converted .... blah blah blah..... now STFU!!!

I urge each and everyone one complaining about this issue to look beyond the default settings for SketchUp

Me me me!!! I want to do that but aren't experienced enough in SU to know what will help and what will kill it.

Is there a list of all these tweaks? I always turn of profiles, but I dont even know how to make that the default 😞

May I suggest that you post all your models without wood textures,

awwwww I wanted to make them look purrdy.... actually it would make it easier, giving them textures and making the grain go in the right direction is a PITA.

    • RE: How does one taper a triangle?

      @gaieus said:

      No, Remus' solution is easier:

      1. draw a triangle
      1. offset it
      2. simply move the inner triangle up (or down)
The side faces will be created automatically (by the autofold feature).

Ahh ha ha ha... I missed his offset reply because I went to try the the scaling solution.

Actually, forget step 3 and you only need to do the top triangle in step 5.

    • RE: How does one taper a triangle?

Huh, you are right, and I discovered that SU is even dumber than that!!

Draw a triangle using the polygon tool. Draw a line from one point to the mid point of the opposite side. Now try and find the "mid point" of the other 2 sides... they are about 2/3 the way along.

I figured out an easy way:

      1. Draw the bottom triangle,
      2. Use the "Offset" tool to draw the top triangle,
      3. Delete the face that is between the smaller and larger triangles,
      4. Move the larger triangle in the blue direction,
      5. Join the faces.

      @remus said:

OK, it i a bit trickier than that, because you cant really scale around the centre point.

It is possible to make the first method work, but its a bit tricky.

No you were right the first time, you just hold the control key and it scales around the centre point.

    • RE: Please Help!

If it's a component then editing one component changes all of them. If it is a group then you have another issue all together because a copy of a group is not linked and they can be altered seperatly.

If it is a component and you want to make it a different colour then right click and select "Make Unique", you will now have another component in your list called "Floor#1", you can then change the name to "Kitchen Floor".

    • RE: Holes, holes, holes...

If it is already a component or group first you have to:

      1. Explode it, OR
      2. Double click the item to edit it

THEN you can draw the circle to push/pull it. If you just erase the circle all you do is have a hole in the face of the item. If you want it so that there is a face on the inside of the item then you need to push/pull it.

Have a look at the demo model.
