I don't know if this will help but you can shorten (or lengthen) shapes with complicated ends.
I have attached a tut to have a look at.

not "fast feedback" but the mentioned "hardware acceleration" (one above).
I meant the I disabled the Hardware acceleration, which then ticks the Fast feedback and gave me a warning about it.
No matter what I do I get a bugsplat.
Personally I would prefer the black window problem with hardware acceleration on.
I have an nVidia card but I just boot into Windows when doing SU, it doesn't bother me I was just saying what happened to me. I am not looking to fix it.
I will just wait until SU7 and the release of the Linux version

disable hardware acceleration (= OGL) in the SU settings and give it a try.
Did that, and got a Bugsplat, both with and without the "Use fast feedback".
When you push/pull a face you make a solid, when you go "inside" the solid you should see the faces are blue.
White is the colour of the "outside" of the solid, blue is the "inside" of the solid. Within SU it does not matter, you can put a texture on the inside face with no problems.
When you use a program external to SU is when the inside/outside faces issue becomes a problem. What's the point of rendering the "inside" right? You will end up with strange results and holes in the model where there should not be any.
Have a look at the following model, they look identical right? Now go "View -> Face style -> Monochrome"
The left block will render fine, the right will not because it's "inside out".

Without the basic texture handling capabilities in SU the ruby gods cant really do a lot.
That what I meant by "they provide a really good base", there are core features that plugins cannot match, UV mapping is probably one of them.

Dear Hazza,
Are you running SU under Ubuntu?
I did get it running but I prefer using Windows for when I do SU.
I had a weird problem that the screen would be black after I panned until I selected something.
I didn't even try uploading to the 3D warehouse.

it is just sad that so many tools need to be made by users and are not addressed by google themselves
Read the essay "The Cathedral and the Bazaar".
Basically I would hate it if Google tried to do it all themselves. "We are smarter than any one of us".
It's why I love using Firefox, they provide a really good base, then the users create and share all the "extras" that make it operate exactly the way they want it to, not like some 800 pound Gorilla thinks you should be FORCED to.
Give us the basic tool and then get out of the way. Google knows this and Microsoft does not, look who is growing and who is working full time non-stop trying and trying to convince people that Vista is NOT the steaming pile that they can smell from 50 yards away.
Tired now, going to bed, rant over.

Awesome...one question though, what exactly does clicking the wall and intersecting it with model do?
Here is another tut for you. If you want to know why you need to edit the wall instead of just clicking it. Use the first tut and do the following:
I have attached a tut model.

Draw a diagnonal across the square, then split it in half (you can use the midpoint inference.) There's your centerpoint.
They are not having a problem finding the centre, they can do that with the CenterPoint plugin.
I have attached a tut on how to create a 1" cap on the top of the leg.
I just downloaded Kerkythea and I think it is going to be an interesting learning curve.
The comment was not directed at you, just a general comment

chose a large aperture--f/2.8 or 4 or so
This is where my photography skills come in handy.
When thinking about aperture don't try and remember that the lower the number the larger the hole etc... just think of it... the lower the number the less that is in sharp focus... want more to be in focus then raise the number.
You say you are new to SU, are you new to 3D modeling as well?
I started with simple woodworking projects like birdhouses and letterboxes. I am enjoying it so much that I have not bothered moving onto the house I wanted to model... just yet anyway.
I went camping with my son for a couple of days but I have created another model since returning.
Remus bet me to it after I had an idea and went back to the model but STILL didn't find anything.
Pretty good for a first model, although I can't figure out why it is 5 meg in size for such a simple model.

Now i can do it
I still get it wrong, if I am posting an image I ALWAYS use the preview.
Then there is the CentrePoint plugin from Smustard that will create a guide point for you.
Select the circle, Plugins -> Set center point, then dimension to the guide point.
