I just loaded a huge model in to SKP 2013 trial, and was like owning a AMD dual core 2gig system again.
running like this is not fun or enjoyable, sent information to SKP as per link asking them why are they treating users like "Lord of the rings"... "Ooooo shinny Buttons Master,, Must have shinny buttons"

and i am using many plugins but they were working fine with it and suddenly this happen.
and besides i installed sketchup 2013 with no plugin in it but still sketchup crashes whenever i tried to import vismat material.

This is a key issue for loads, they want your money to subscribe, but wont look into GPU/CPU HD4000
I have to build large office layouts, many rooms and floor's walk through's and more, and the layer system needs to be looked at more effective and faster, i.e. right click object move to 1 of 10 layers,

Funny how people will just roll over for a few shinny buttons....

I'm wondering if one can buy 3dsmax second hand, maybe an earlier version like 2009 or 2010 at a great price? Maybe ebay?

with the export dae files Blender makes nice grass for free do all your standard build in SKP. then export to blender for some nice animations and rendering
just a cheep option from MAX3d

    • RE: 2013 pro...?? to buy or not

Thanks for all the input above,,

But i would like to see some major improvements for 500 Euros, that sort of money can buy other products, that dont crash or lag out when your building large architecture subjects
EVGA Workstation dual Xenon system, and the i have not seen any better productive GPU use as its still CPU reliant.

Seems a huge shame that they are investing your money into a database to sell you more products, and not bringing Sketchup into 64bit OS, or even GPU use...

currently can anyone show me a proof we are not being held to ransom subscribe or get a bill for not backing the database..
If they dont bring the software up to date, will they lose more than they presume to gain..
Programs like Blender, are snapping up users of sketch up due to the free and built in rendering animation and more, when your paying for a piece of software it has to beat the free ware options out there, why else make a investment, ? in a win95 32bit program, with some go faster stickers on it

    • 2013 pro...?? to buy or not

      Greetings all

I'm somewhat confused, what does the 2013 pro offer to justify up grade from SKP 8 Pro.. as i cant see the gains regarding work Layout is still the same, no enhanced internal rendering, no CUDA Cores or GPU enhancements..
Love SKP 8Pro, just dont think or feel that few fancy icons or new plugin data base is worth the upgrade cost,

If i have missed something please help me see what i have missed, feel this is a lot of money for a minor upgrade..(More like a patch fix)

Not aimed to offend anyone just asking what the big improvement is for the money in the Program it's self

Thanks for any advice on the new version

    • RE: Why Sketchup?

      Why Sketchup,,, Very good question

For me Who is not a pro designer this was my feeling

Sketch up free version is a Perfect starting block for floor plans and so easy to learn in five minuets turn a sketch on the back of a ciggy packet to a working drawing and it doesn't cost you a penny to produce but your time, as you click you have walls with the advance users Model database you and furnish that model produce a working concept that just landed you a paid contract. as your skills grow (others here very advanced) With no need to understand meshes and all the information you need to use max 3d (Auto Cad products)and other alike and not forgetting the cost to pay to train and learn them packages on top of the price of software mounts to £1000s,

After 6 months of learning sketch up from Free Forums and U-tube, all it cost me was my free time I purchased pro with the Lay out export option saves so much time with sending out plans to clients, thanks to all the Skilled people here the tips plug'ins and much more and (Kerkythea Team) I have learned 1000s of pounds worth of knowledge.

So end of the day i Love the speed the quick response i get from sketchup, the support and advice from all the users, the last time i used a 3d package was Light wave with Amiga 040/video toaster for fun with friends as they gave it away free on Amiga format.

So to date thank you to the team here for all the tips and advice that no other 3d package has that support And that's Why Sketch up Is the one

If using a Mac to compile jpg to avi/mov and flash I use Avidemux http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/ 100% free and you can resize enhance filters and many more options, this is not bad for the novice to use

      Thank you Booman,

The whole shop was built in Sketchup , not as classy as the pro's here but concept to aid my job, i can share the final renders now client has seen the proposed new layout.

I'm not a designer in any way but found in my job that if i can price a project/layout, can i show the client what they would get for there money.

Well I will say one thing [Kerkythea Donate] Pressed,

      Stinkie

My Alien Tower is due to be major up grade but wont be going Via Alien this time as i hate Dell with a passion.
Issues is i'm relying on my MacBook Pro to much to renders as this dual core AMD build just takes to long 3x

so what i'm having to look at is new pc Build with Dual Processors,

and Stay with Kerkythea and invest in Thea to, may as well invest in a product i know and dont have to learn all over again.

But if any one has done a timed test for products please share
