      Hi TIG,

      Thanks again for your reply.

What I do is, draw in CAD in millimeters and then import it into SU but (as you know) I have to resale it. It's not like its 1000 bigger or smaller - its just massive!

Why does it do that? I use the Architectural template in millimeters - do I still have to use scale definition regardless?

      Hi TIG,

      Thanks for your reply.

I had to scale it afterwards as I don't think it was drawn right when it was done in Max (I didn't create it)

Will this scale definition enable me then to edit the model?

    • BugSplat Everytime When Push/Pull

      Hi All,

This attached file has been causing me nothing but problems!

I have imported a DWG for the floor plans and every other floor (5 in total) have been fine, but this one is massive in size and really slow in saving. Now when I try push/pull a wall, some of them work and others don't and I get the bug splat screen.

I have purged it and fixed problems but no errors come up. I'm really confused and frustrated by this file! πŸ‘Š

      Thanks in advance

I'm probably not explaining my problems clearly or correctly! 😳

I've put the model here http://www.mediafire.com/?gdomwnzluun (warning it is 50mb) so you can have a look

Thanks in advance for your help

      Hi TIG,

      Thanks for your response.

I can't make any changes like that to the model. For example all the road seems to be one face and when I draw a line to split it, nothing happens 😞

I have the 3ds model and SU model but both are quite large

      Hey,

Gaieus - I selected the stamp tool and clicked on the area I wanted to lower and it just froze up

Solo - thanks for the suggestion. I used that script but I still couldn't make any amendments.

Why does nothing work for me?! 😒

    • Making Changes To A 3ds Model Converted to SU

      Hi again,

Attached is a screen print of a 3ds model that Solo kindly converted into SU for me a while back.

I now need to make a few changes to it (as shown in the picture thanks to MS Word!) but I can't because it seems to be made of a lot of faces so I can't trim bits of them out or make holes.

Can anyone give me any help on how to do this?

      Thanks again in advance

Tas, somehow try to visualize that semi circle. I for instance do not know where and how you want to add it - at least post a rough 2d sketch in top view or something, please.

I've taken what KXI posted for me and drawn the semi circle.

Where the spiral attaches to the semi circle I want that to join continuously - not sit on top like I have at the minute. Do that make sense?

Again, thank you for your help

      Hey,

I'm not trying to model that building - I'm designing my own which has taken "inspiration" from that building.

What you have done is great - I think I can work something out for the semi circle at the bottom.

How could I make that more curved?

      Hey,

      Thanks for your quick response.

That's about 90% of what I want - just need a flat semi-circle at the bottom and then the spiral to go upwards.

    • Circular/Spiral Building Help

      Hello - me again

I promise when (and if) I get good at Sketchup - I will contribute to this forum!

The attached picture is of a circular building, spiralling up. When I try to do this in SU - I can make the spiral (or helix - found a great tutorial) but I want the bits that spiral up to be closer together (if that makes sense) like the picture - so basically each floor is attached to each other.

However, I want like a semi-circle flat on the bottom before the spiralling starts

Any ideas - your help as always is greatly appreciated

      Thank you

      Hey,

      Thanks TIG - that's great

Sorry for all the questions (I am a newbie after all!) How would I get the bird nest type roof on that curved building as per the video?

Does that make sense? Is it even possible?! ❓

      Thank you again

      Hey,

Thanks for all your quick responses - and thanks Remus for the tutorial file.

I'll have a play around with something this weekend and post what I come up with. What I want to produce is like half the birds nest, but half of it with the slope near to the ground....a bit like this

      http://www.inhabitat.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/The-Ecorium-Project-5.jpg

      That's the plan anyway πŸ˜›

    • Double Curved Roof?

      Hey,

Before I start asking for help (as I always do) I just want to thank everyone for their responses, great tips and advice.

      End of my grovelling πŸ˜›

I've attached a picture of the 'Birds Nest' in Beijing. I would love to know I would draw something like this in SU. I'm really interested in how to make the top, how it curves and goes towards the ground (if that makes sense)

      Any help is greatly appreciated

      Thank you

      I don't understand what you are saying! 😳 πŸ˜•

This is the section I noticed which didn't look like it had any elevation.

Attached is the .DWG I imported. I noticed the text didn't turn up either?

      Thanks

Not really as it's hard to get the right angle.

I've added the SU file though (3.5mb)
