Transparent background
-
Hello,
Is it possible to export a 2d image from SU7.1 with a transparent background (other than going through layout)?
I have about 40 scenes.
Thank you,
Glenn
p.s. PC version -
Not on a PC. It is built into the Mac OS to let you do that though. Perhaps you have a Mac lying around handy you coud export to .png files from?
Or you could use a renderer to export a cliping mask and then combine that in Photoshop. Using amacro to do it
You probably could the clipping mask just using SU styles. I've never really tried it on anything too complex though.

Thanks for the reply.
No mac lying around....
so it looks like layout or photoshop.

Don't know what your background looks like but AF posted this link that will read your SU export, and alpha out the background (like PS), but maybe easier.

Thanks for the link.
The background can be any color needed for an easy selection.
At this point, I'm leaning toward layout, since I have 40 scenes in SU to export. There may be changes (so I don't want to do that many in PS more than once).

I really think LayOut would be the quickest and easiest way in Windows. You can simply select the SU scenes there and hit export.

Gaieus,
I agree the export from layout is fast.
However, setting up the layout file for 42 scene tabs from SU is going to take a little time.... I"m not sure which will be longer....setting up layout for 42 pages or manually cutting in photoshop? Actually, I did a quick test on PS, takes me about 10 seconds per file.
It should only have to be done once (getting the background transparent), my client is using the images in flash.

If you have your scenes set up in SU, you can easily create just one page in LO with the SU model inserted, the viewport scaled to your needs and in the SU Model dialog in LO you can choose whichever scene you want to display in that viewport. Export the image and go to the next scene.

Gaieus,
Thanks for the tip. I'm sure your method takes half the time as compaed to manually cutting in photoshop.
It would be nice if LO could automatically create pages for each scene tab in SU (or perhaps the user could select scene tabs).
hmm....ruby in layout?

Ruby in layout has been suggested, but so far no one has really given any good ideas of what ruby should be able to accomplish. I think this is a great example of something ruby would be useful for in LO.
