Very interesting comments…I too have been a car nut since before I could drive. Raced for about 6 years (IMSA, SCCA). Used to work in the auto industry, was disillusioned by the scam they are pulling on the general public.
I ride (mountain bike) daily, 1 to 2 hours for pleasure (sometimes on the trails, other days just around town).
I work at home so my commute is about 20 feet J.
The hard part for me to grasp is grocery shopping without a car??? I’ve thought about going 2x per week to carry less bags?
I live in Fort Collins Colorado, very bike/pedestrian friendly. I haven’t tried the public transportation yet….I see buses constantly. Maybe I should get a schedule????

Going without a car
Hello,
How many of you don’t have a car?
U.S. residents?
I’m in Fort Collins, CO and when my lease is up in February, I’m giving serious thought to not getting another car. This will be rather strange since I’m 46, and have had a car since I was 16.
The thought of saving $400/month is very appealing. I’m only driving 300 miles a month as it is.
Thoughts?
Experiences?
Suggestions to prepare?
Thanks,
Glenn -
Computer cleaning
How often do you remove the case & dust inside your computer?
I did mine today, FILTHY!!!
Now I know why I could hear the fans running.
The heat sinks were clogged with dust too.
Definitely writing this task into my planner, bi-monthly for now.

Are Sketchup files created on PC transferable to Mac?
Any loss of materials, etc?
Any problems?

Payment terms question
Hello,
I’m relatively new (2 years) to architectural illustration & rendering. I’ve been self employed since 1993 as a manufacturing/mechanical designer. I had a small client base that I received monthly projects from and they in turn would pay in 30 days.
I’m wondering what are common or typical payment terms for architectural projects (rendering, modeling)?
I have my clients sign a proposal that includes “payment due upon completion of project”.
Some clients pay upon completion, others drag it out for a few weeks and the ones that are causing me the most distress disappear when the project is about 90-99% complete. Claiming they are waiting for review from their client. I usually offer them a deal (90% of the money now, the balance due when the project is completed). They agree, pay the 90%, then I never hear from them again.
So, what terms do use?
Do you get a deposit?
Or progress payments?
New clients vs. repeat clients?
Thanks in advance,
Glenn
Btw this board…community is a GREAT resource, I hope as my skill level advances to one day be able to contribute like so many do. -
RE: Question about ADO
Hey Fletch,
Thanks for the reply.
I have the same camera position, I'm working on 24 alternative designs for an entry. So, it would have been nice to automate the export process.

Question about ADO
Hello,
I’m having a bit of trouble with Didier Bur’s Automatic 2d output.
Using Sketchup 64112.
I have several scenes set, some geometry is on a common layer, but the majority is on a layer specific for each scene. (I’m offering my client many different design options.)
ADO runs, images are saved, but the geometry/entities that are specific for each scene are not exported.
It appears ADO is ignoring the layers?
Any ideas?
Thank you

RE: SU7 news!
I agree with the level of disappointment for all the flash added to SU instead of worthwhile fixes, improvements, enhancements, etc.
Many, many thanks to the dedicated ruby programmers who selfishly share with us.
I’ve been a designer since 1984 and seen many great software packages sold, with the promise of being taken to the next level….only to stagnate or the next level being some other market that the current user base didn’t care about.
What are some (modeler, rendering) options for us windoze os based dudes?

RE: Moire patterns in animation?
What about using a sketchy material for the roof and bricks?
If I remember correctly, there are some to be found in the materials forum here. -
RE: Image size suggestions
Thanks for the responses.
I suggested to my client that she investigate the equipment before the presentation.
I gave her jpegs 300dpi 10" (inches) wide.

Image size suggestions
Hello,
Anyone have some ideas for image: size, resolution, and format for a client that has to make a Powerpoint presentation on a 7’ screen?
There are 5 images, straight SU output (no sketchy lines, etc).
I’m not sure what is best?
Thank you,

RE: Dwg import and notes
Thanks for the reply....gave me another idea...DWG viewer.
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=6703438&siteID=123112Import dwg into SU, then use the viewer to see what is missing.
Glenn
downloaded, installed, looks like it will do the trick. I just need to see the notes in the dwg file about materials, etc.

Dwg import and notes
Hello,
I’m using SU pro 6.4.112, when I import dwg files from a client, their notes/text doesn’t come in with the lines.
I fortunately have another design package I use, but I’m wondering why SU ignores the text?
Thanks,
