Dave, while I'm at it (and you are obviously well versed in Cutlist 4.1) would you be able to tell me how to stop getting this error?

It still produces the CSV I need but stops me from getting board patterns.
I have removed it from the plugins folder and downloaded a fresh copy and put it back in but it won't go away.

      cheers...Wayne

Yeah, I get that but no harm in asking πŸ˜‰

Most of what we do here with kitchens and bathrooms is "pre-finished" board

    • RE: Reporting height and width with Cutlist 4.1

      Hi Dave,
Grain running vertically where I am is an everyday occurrence in the kitchen industry in Australia....the exception here seems to be horizontal grain.

One of the reasons I am after this is that as cabinetmakers we were taught that on a cutting list, the first dimension is always the height (drawer - door - panel etc) and the second dimension is always the width. This is a standard in our trade in Australia.

I am also testing out exporting my parts to Cutting Optimizer Pro and if the material is grained, my doors optimise correctly but my drawers require manual intervention either at the CSV file level or rotating in the optimising software.

I was just hoping that thare was something in Sketchup that could export dimensions the way I view them in the file.

    • Reporting height and width with Cutlist 4.1

      Hi,
Although I have searched threads for this, I am sure this question has been asked before.

When Cutlist reports parts from Sketchup, it always puts the longest figure first.
What I want to do is have my parts appear as they do in my model. So if I have a drawerbank like I have attached and it has 2 drawers that are 360 high and 600 wide, I want them to appear like this in Cutlist.....360 as the length and 600 as the width.

I have tried this with: groups, components, putting components inside components and tried different axis rotations but to no avail.

      Any tips would be appreciated.

      cheers...Wayne

Thanks so much Jim. That gives me a simple insight and a kick start!

I don't think I'll get into the if statements just yet but I will work toward it for sure.

    • Need a little help to get started...

      Hi everyone.

Well today is the day I decided I really need to learn to basics of DC's as I am helping a mate with his kitchen and he wants me to give him DXF files with cabinet parts (shapes of panels with drill marks on them)

So I thought......What an easy way to introduce myself to DC's......FAIL !!

As an example of what I set out to do....
      I created a small panel.
I then created a 3mm crosshair to place on the panel. I want these marks to remail 25mm in from each end and one in the centre. I also want them to be 8mm up from the bottom.
I set up two input boxes to set the size of the panel.
Before I tried to add a formula to parametrically position these marks, I found that when I resized the panel the marks were squashing or stretching.

Now I don't think I could have chosen a more simple thing to start learning DC's but I am stumped already and not being one for thinking like a programmer I will probably remain stumped!

Can anyone help start me off with this as I have lots of drill mark options I need to explore but I just need to get through this first hurdle.

      cheers...Wayne

      Peter,

      thanks for the advice.
I think what you have done is as close as it's going to get given the suspect dimensions!.
A friend of mine is an interior designer and is going to renovate this bathroom and wants me to do some concepts for him so having the ceiling looking approximate is a huge bonus. πŸ˜„

Would you mind posting the model you created?....It would help me greatly.

Of topic....I notice you live in Samona. Northern California is a favorite place of ours to visit. We try and get to the US when we can and always visit San Fran and have been to Yosemite. I also have a mate in Santa Clara whom I met when he was on holidays in Ausralia.

If I had to leave Australia and live in the US it would have to be in or near San Fran (although my wife thinks it would be fun to live in Vegas!!).

      Thanks for your responses guys....

Tig, those results were basic Cross Vaults which is not really what I need but thanks anyway.

Gai, you are on the right track and yes.....the dimensions are very very suspect!

Mike, you have pretty well nailed what it's like ecxept how to interface the two differnt sized arches.
It makes no sense to me that the smaller arch on the photos is on the longer wall and the larger arch is on the shorter wall.

      Thanks for your help....Wayne

    • This arched ceiling is doing my head in!!

Here are some pics and a floorplan I got from a house in Italy that is for sale on the internet.

I am trying to approximately reproduce the ceiling but after 6 failed attempts I am about to give up..... 😞
The pics are a bit unclear so I can't really get a good vision in my mind of how it all comes together.

Hope someone can come up with a method for me to use or just help to explain how it could be done.

      cheers...Wayne

    • RE: Drawing 2D Floorplan walls from lines

      Thanks for your input guys.

What I am doing is "Artist Impressions" in 2D (nothing 3D for these floorplans)and no exact dimensions are being used.
I just wanted to speed up the way I draw 3D rectangles and nothing more really.

If I had the time and inclination to learn Ruby I would (and I am hoping in the future I might) write myself a plugin similar to Dieder's Line to Wall tool that converts a line (or bunch of lines) to a rectangle with no height as it's only 2D that I require for this project.

i appreciate your helpful comments and I admire you guys who write plugins for the SU community. πŸ˜„

    • Drawing 2D Floorplan walls from lines

      Hi everyone.

Does anyone know of a plugin that has been written to help draw floorplan walls using center lines?

I am doing a lot of color 2D floorplans for a builder mate of mine and a tool that can convert a line into a rectangle without height (please see attached)would make my life much easier!

I would like to draw a bunch of lines, open a plugin that asks for a width of the wall, select all the lines at once and apply the plugin. If I specified a 70mm wide wall it would add 35mm to either side of the line and close the ends.

Currently I use Deider's "lines2walls 13" It is the closest thing I can find to do what I need except it does one line at a time and the wall has to have a height.

If anyone has some advice on this, it will be greatly appreciated.

      thanks...Wayne

      @unknownuser said:

When you say fit onto a shape, do you mean surface or single face?

I figure it is a single face that could be in various shapes.
I would be keen to look at what you have.

Guess I will stick to the manual method of cookie cutting.gh Zorro is working out ok at the moment so I'll keep using it and maybe less of 'Intersect with Selected'

    • RE: Fill a shaped surface with a modeled object?

      Instant Roof is quite amazing!
I use 1001bit Pro to create my roof shape then manually build tiles. It also does metal custom orb beautifully.

Instant roof is a must have by the look of it but it doesn't solve my "applying" individual tiles to a shaped surface. If I could use one of my tiles that I modeled then it would work for me.
My tiles are slightly sloped so when they are laid, you can actually see the step in each row (see attached)

      cheers...Wayne

Yes Pilou, this works nice if I explode everything first.
I cant get the CTL function to cut through grouped objects. I have no components so that is not the problem.

This plugin would be even more sensational if I could place a shape over what I want to cut and click on it to activate the cut but I am grateful that it exists and that people take the time to write these ruby's for the Skethcup community.

Thanks for the suggestion as I didn't know this existed.

    • RE: Fill a shaped surface with a modeled object?

      Thanks for your reply TIG.
That is not really what I am trying to achieve.

I have attached some images to explain a bit clearer what I need a plugin to do.

Basically I want to take a shaped roof section and stamp it over a bunch of tiles (objects) that I have created and copied multiple times to cover the area.
Carrying out this process using 'Intersect with selected' in V7 is ok but time consuming and takes forever.
Carrying this out in V8 takes as long maybe even longer and results in a bug splat most times.

If a ruby could project the outline of the roof shape down onto the tiles to be cut to the shape (and not affect or explode any other tiles) I am sure this would be less system resources on the PC and Sketchup..... A bit like a laser cutter I suppose - and not having to explode all the tiles?

      Cheers...Wayne

ok, maybe I could re-word this as I could do this another way.

Is there a plugin that acts like a "Cookie Cutter"? (I have searched the forum but I cannot find one.

I need to cookie cut a shape into a group of tiles I have modeled.
I downloaded Sketchup Pro 8 trial and cannot get Solid Tools to do this.

      Hope someone can help.
