    • Vray for sketchup render and save individual frames

      hello,

i am getting very frustrated right now, especially when the old ASGVis site is down, ChaosGroup hasn't restored all of the forums yet and my deadline is approaching.

since i am unable to find any helpful tutorials on the internet (3dsmax's are useless, and the official ones are down at the moment), i would very kindly like to ask you for help.

i have finished the modelling part, and set up individual scenes. now what i would like to do is what basically SketchUp does defaultly through File -> Export -> Animation and the output is a series of images.

the only difference is that i would like to do it through VRay.

the setting in the Save File dialog allows me only to specify only one file name - which is useless, since this renders all frames into one and single image. not ticking the Save File option causes all of the frames get lost in the cleared frame buffer, which, too, is utterly useless.

if anyone had the time and the will to explain to me, what needs to be set up, i would be infinitely thankful.

    • RE: VRay texture transfer

hello broomstick and thanks for the answer. however, the export option does not help, since it creates different filenames for the textures (and hence would represent too too much work to get it working with the VRay). the plugin... does nothing for me. and also, it seems, that it can only export textures from a selected object. how about multiple use of textures in VRay materials?

    • VRay texture transfer

      hello,

if you're reading this, thank you for not closing the case with a 'omg n00b just utfg' note, since by the Subject the topic may appear to be very trivial πŸ˜„

however, i would like to ask, whether there is a tool for extracting all textures (bitmaps) used in scene into one folder.

      why do i need this?

well, we all know that VRay (for SketchUp), for successful execution of a network rendering process, needs a clear and valid path to the textures. the first options are either to use a common network location for textures/materials, or to use the same file structure on both master and slave computer. nevertheless, i noticed today that VRay on the slave machine looks also into its Cached Textures folder, when performing a network render! (in my case the folder is at C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\VfSTextureCache ). this means, that when the original file path is not valid, the texture is used if it resides in the cache folder.

now, by the command line output of the DRSpawner i can identify the missing textures and copy them straight into the slave's Cache folder, and - voila - no errors, and the textures show in the image.

now back to my question - is there a way in sketchup (or VRay) to extract all textures (image files) used in scene into one location? and if this would be possible, would it be really that hard to implement automatic texture transfer?

i am not a programmer, but it seems pretty easy to me - and it works.

thanks for any answers or pointers,
      ~E

    • Shadows working only with negative UTC?

      hello,

just a quick question - how does SU's Shadow settings work, according to the timezones?

i can light my model only when UTC -1 to -9 is used; other timezones give me absolute darkness.

      thanks for any info,

    • SU show end of lines (vertices) ?

      hello,

i would like to know, whether SketchUp can somehow show the ends of lines (ie. show vertices). i know about the option View -> Edge Style -> Extension, but the extensions are either too small for me or they are useless when i have a line appended on one of the others, but its angle is only slightly different - this way SU doesn't join them, and i only run into weird artifacts and frustration.

any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated πŸ˜„

    • RE: Photo match & terrain match ?

thanks Brodie, taking the location from GEarth and adjusting the North did the trick for now. also i now realize that the same could be achieved if i just rotated the imported google earth terrain snapshot.

thomthom: i first had the building done, then i wanted to photomatch it. hence (combined with my rather newbie skills in SU) when i did the photomatching, i moved and rotated my house around (i wanted it to fit in two pictures).

      thanks for the replies πŸ˜„

    • Photo match & terrain match ?

      hello,

i know, that sketchup is able to download terrain from google earth, and i can adjust my building onto it afterwards. i also know how to place my model into a photo using photomatch. but is there any chance of combining these two together? i would like to place my building onto a photo, correctly oriented and aligned with real-world North, so i get realistic Sun shadows.

any tips and info is highly appreciated.

    • RE: Turn off automatic creation of line interesctions

      thanks πŸ˜„

i think i will use the Ruby console instead of paying $5 for the same functionality. πŸ˜„

and furthermore i found a videotutorial by AIA on SketchUp, where i've been given some tips on modelling from CAD plans; suddenly, i don't need this toggle anymore πŸ˜„ well, at least for now.

      thanks for the answers

    • Turn off automatic creation of line interesctions

      hello,

how to turn off automatic creation of line interesctions in SketchUp 7? when i import a drawing from CAD program, it gets automatically filleted and it makes the further work impossible.

      thank you for any tips
