RE: Tornado Disaster Relief

I am used to tornadoes coming through this area but not to this extent. This was a once in a lifetime event but I cannot see this as the result of man made climate change.
Man made climate change?
Oh, it's changing..just not by man's hand. I see your point though. I have nothing but compassion for the victims regardless of cause. I didn't intend to stir any controversy. Keep up the great work with your neighbors. -
RE: Tornado Disaster Relief
Eric,
It's really sad all of the people affected by this springs devastating weather. I'm surprised there hasn't been a more unified national relief effort. Between the tornadoes and floods (including the intentional flooding of 3 million acres in Louisiana a few days ago displacing 25,000 people) so many people in the countries heartland and south are displaced and suffering. My heart goes out to the families and what you are doing is commendable.
Out of curiosity, have you ever seen this much tornado activity down south? I had one come through PA last year about a quarter mile from where I was outside working. It came over the mountain and right through a 15 mile stretch of dense woods, snapping a path 50-75 year old trees, before overturning several tractor trailers and demolishing barns and roofs. I've lived here my whole life and we've never had tornadoes come further than the Appalachian Mountains. I don't think there is anymore denying of climate change. I'm guessing it gets worse before it get's better.

RE: Newbie having trouble with terrains
I use soapskin & bubble to make raised beds all the time. It works great for complicated curvy bed shapes. http://www.tensile-structures.de/sb_software.html

RE: "Make component" grayed out?
Thanks Ken for tracking down the issue with recurve being grayed out. I disabled FredoScale from appearing at all in the context menu and now it's working properly, along with a few other grayed out items. Now to track down what is causing my Selection Toys toolbar to go missing....

RE: [REQ] copy along path keeping perpendicular
Ahh...good call Dave. It works with Copy by spacing. Copy by Nodes however, doesn't.

RE: [Plugin] Sketchup Ivy
CTRL click to bring up the red "+" symbols to indicate where the leaves will go and then SHIFT click to apply and create the leaves.
Instructions are in the last section of the User Interface.

RE: [REQ] copy along path keeping perpendicular
I imagine it would be tough to define the "normal" direction of the underlying vertex. I've been too busy to attempt this, but it looks like a head scratcher. I wonder if you could build it vertically using grow.rb? I also think component stringer could do it based on Simon's testing in that thread. Hopefully I can find the time as I would love to use that chair in some of my pool renders.

RE: Large Terrain Mesh
Your best FREE solution is to use TIG's drape Cpoints and Triangulate points scripts. This will allow you set the mesh density based on the quadrant spacing of the Cpoints initially. Doing the original terrain sample at 20' spacing took about two minutes of processing time and reduced the face count to under 4500. The downside is that you get an evenly distributed reduction, thus no interpolation of the reduction within higher detail areas, but it's quick and free. Conversely I like to port my messy/complex terrains into 3ds Max and use a plugin called Wrapit to quadrify the mesh. It seems to do a better job at preserving detail areas, but cost money.

Sketch 3D - Dynascape
Thought this may be of interest to some - http://sketch3d.dynascape.com/
It's a content library for sketchup, specific to landscape design. It contains a pretty large library of low poly 3D plants, pools, ponds, materials, etc. I believe it's subscription based similar to form fonts.

good work earthmover
but can you say how to increase the thickness ofr your ivy plz?Not really sure. I left all the settings as default and what you see was my first quick attempt. I did scale the foliage up a little but the vine itself is on default settings using the 0.6.2 beta build with imperial units.

RE: [Plugin] Sketchup Ivy
Here is a copy of the arbor with Wisteria. I have a nice climbing hydrangea in my garden that would make for a good test subject. I'd like to do a rose next though. I'm thinking Chris Fullmer's Components on to Faces plugin might be perfect to scatter 3D blooms across a set of leaves and then delete the leaves. I definitely need more hours in the day, strictly dedicated to "play" time.

RE: [Plugin] Sketchup Ivy
Newest build working fine for me on Win 7 SU 8.
Here's a quick play. Swapped the dead looking default leaves for some Wisteria leaves and blooms. Amazing plugin!

RE: Lastest work (Thea4Su 13 May)
Great work. Love 'em all! The exteriors are exceptional. Is the roof and siding displaced or modeled? My only critique would be adding more in the way of plants and landscape as it's a bit boring. Love the deck material and the details down to the screws.

Man, do I need this. Sweet work! This will definitely help with billing.

RE: [Request/Idea] On-Screen Keyboard Input
Great idea for this. I think is would be useful if you could save them into a macro (action) command and rerun multiple commands in a single click to help speed up repetitive functions.

RE: Keyboard Shortcuts
Drumming up an old thread....but is there anyway to access a list of assigned keyboard shortcuts and perhaps export them as .csv? I'm teaching my wife Sketchup and want to get her used to the shortcuts I have setup, but am being too lazy to write them all down.
