      @samuel_t I don't get a .log file, I get this assimp.nfo here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/wl0v2chqcap2sdz/assimp.nfo?dl=0

      File explorer looks like attached

Also, here is the .dae file I'm trying to import if that is helpful. It's from Home Designer (Chief Architect) Again, I don't have a problem importing the file into 2021, but this is to provide an option for my students who are looking for a free solution.-

      Hi Samuel,

I'm getting this error in 2017 Make (Pro trial). I've tried with a .DAE and .FBX file and get the same error. The extension is working as expected in my licensed SU 2021 version, but failing with 2017 only. Any suggestions? Thanks for all your hard work on this amazing free tool!

      A yes from me.

Would the 1000 poly restriction be for the base control mesh?

As far as themes, perhaps a whimsical or fairy tale theme?

    • RE: Enscape for Sketchup

I've been doing a bit of testing and am really impressed thus far. Is it completely revolutionary? No. But, the integration into Sketchup and ease of use will really pull in some of the market. The VR support and panoramas are also a plus. It's upside being it's Sketchup integration, is also it's downside as it's very limited to what Sketchup can support. I don't honestly think Enscape will succeed unless it can figure out proxy support. If they can make it work with Skatter and allow for high poly proxy rendering via proxy, they will win over a lot of users. Visually, the GI and AA is amazing. I think up there with the best of them.

Bugs that I've found are with hidden geometry and layers not turning off in Enscape. Quad based texture mapping is not transferring. Also faceme components aren't moving in realtime.

Here are a bunch of my recent test renders to showcase a little of what it can do. These are literally just opening my old scenes and exporting out screenshots. I've done nothing else. I'd like to set up a scene full with plants and see how it does. I did test it on a scene with 3.5 million polys and it did fine. It just took a while to actually start up, but then everything moved around flawlessly. Overall, I would describe Enscape renders as simply "clean". Good color, good crisp lines

I also did a review here that goes through the UI and how to produce and animation, etc. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN1HIwzPv2M

    • RE: Wrap-R for SketchUp

Thank you Rich. I finally had some time to play with WrapR and Substance Painter together and your videos were invaluable. This may be a dumb question but how do I alternatively get the UV layouts into Photoshop directly from WrapR? The .svg export doesn't seem to come into PS with any of the islands. Also the site says that tomorrow is the last day for the Beta. Is that for access only, or will all betas cease to work after tomorrow? Thanks!

    • RE: [Plugin] 3D Window for Sketchup

Hi David. I appreciate the quality of the dynamic windows you are creating. I personally would love to see more consideration toward the exterior view of the window as well. Different exterior trim options, sills and shutters would round out this plugin perfectly in my opinion and would give it the extra bit that I would need to justify the price. I don't believe the plugin is overpriced for the professional in regards to the time that is saved. But as someone who does more exteriors than interiors, I don't find as much value in the plugin without the consideration to exterior details.

      Thanks for your consideration.

    • RE: Daniel Tal's new book "Rendering in Sketchup"

I've got nothing against Daniel. He does great urban planning work. Rendering.... πŸ˜’

I think everyday there are new hordes of contractors, architects and designers who are feeling pressured into taking up 3D modeling and rendering. Most aren't doing it for love as most here are. I've done some teaching and on site training and I see a lot of the same false perceptions. No one wants to give up time to get where they want to go. They want a shortcut....a magic portal....a guru.....a master. They think that must be how others got where they want to be. Hell, it's all done on a computer so there must be a way to make the computer just magically do the work for you....if you know where the secrete buttons are.

My point is that I think there is a market there for people who are looking for help. I don't see any issue with capitalizing on that market of new users or new aspiring render artists. I still think it's a lot of false expectation. It's either you are born with artistic vision, high aptitude, massive memory and technical inclination, or you are not. The majority of people are not. The unique thing about 3D rendering in my opinion is that it takes a lot of both left and right sides of your brain. Most people only possess one or the other. Either good with the technical or good with the visual. Still it takes a ton of perseverance, dedication and peer review before you can realize if you have "it" or not. Most who have "it" don't worry too much about seeking out masters. They spend time on forums instead. πŸ˜†

    • RE: Daniel Tal's new book "Rendering in Sketchup"

      Nice promo.

My opinion. Writing words doesn't give you the title of master. Build an impressive portfolio of rendering work first. A book can't make you a master of rendering any more than a book on music theory can make you a master musician or a book on kung fu can make you a master martial artist. That's why most big 3D studios don't hire many kids out of college. They hire the ones with solid vision and instincts who skipped college and worked their asses off to develop their style and portfolio. πŸ€“ BTW - Where is Daniel Tal's portfolio of stunning renders? Can't find it online.

    • RE: [REQ] replace all similar groups with component

Try it on HD. Could be youtube was still processing it. Or click the "YouTube" link and it should link to the HD version.

      It was simple.

Just select all faces and the one component.

Use Chris's plugin - components onto faces and use the "face groups" option. EDIT "Face Collections" not face groups.

Then I just selected the original faces with their edges and deleted them.

      Adjusted the texture.

Should work for background trees. Problem is obviously the leaf direction being upside down on some of the leaves.

Working on trying to do something similar with an evermotion plant. I'll let you know if I find a better way.

    • RE: Terrain from contours - improve on native 'from contours'?

A quick play with the contours. Simplified the curves using Thom's Edge Tools. Then did a From Contours terrain. Then a Drape Cpoints / Triangulate method to retopo. Then opened the high res contour lines in 3ds Max and used the free Populate Terrain plugin to generate a similar terrain. Then brought it back into sketchup and compared the two.
