    • Trimble's Forum

      Just a question for consideration.?
The new Forum design format sure looks like it came out of the same design studio that came up with the new Sketchup ID logo.
Is this forum independent or a part the new ownership for Sketchup?
Something inside must have really changed as the "SUPER PLUGIN" gang suddenly went very quiet.
Way back this forum was a rescue move to continue what was just plain fun and very special.
I really miss the loose and "sketchy" look that set an attitude as well as just feeling more creative.
Is the new look bad design?
Not at all, but perhaps just not a good and welcoming fit for the sketchers in SketchUp

A big and heartfelt thanks to all those who have pro bono supported we the Super Lurkers and whose generous and freely have given help, creative plugins, and just good feeling made the forum of old so very special.

    • RE: MysticThumbs - Thumbnails for 64bit Windows

      Hi All
XNview (free) will show Sketchup thumbnails too.
      Win 32 and 64
As I remember one must config a thumb setting but this does work.
Also Irfan View will show PDF thumbs.

πŸ‘Ž Looks just like what a bunch of engineers would come up with.
50's graphics and just no fun at all.
      Good freeway sign however.

Not quite sure just what level of finish you are looking for but here are a few shots that might get the vital juices going.

      Hope this helps a bit.

      Check out the Adobe examples.
Looks like the 3D PDF's were all produced by SimLab plugins.
The one with dimensions was just not a SU export. 😞

      10 minute smell test. πŸ‘Ž
On simple files is lightning fast.
On complex files cannot find textures and render fails.
I did find a project file that would complete render and very plastic and flat.
Many bugSplats and does not read SU materials well without editing all in file.

      KT still wins. πŸ‘

    • RE: Ever Turn down a job?

      Hi Glenn

Sad truth is that as long as one work for someone else you are at the will of the one who writes your pay check. 😞
      Plan A:
Make a portfolio of your best and original work.
Then interview in offices that reflect your portfolio.
      Plan B;
Open your own office and hustle everyone you know on earth.
If you are truly a "Form Giver" the market place will see this ability.
If it is possible become a licensed Architect.
Hang in and pursue your dream in any case. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘
      Good luck

    • RE: Forums' Future ?

      Hi all
This Forum is just golden. πŸ‘ πŸ‘
A special place and a statement of just how valuable and sacred free discourse and the sharing of ideas are.
Friedrich von Hayek noted in the "Road to Serfdom"
"The more security you get the less freedom you will have".
Just keep Trimble out of this and let them do their own thing.
The foolishness of looking to them for a few pennies is obvious.
When the camel's nose is in the tent the camel is in the tent.
Well meaning intrusion will be the ultimate result.

My heartfelt thanks and respect to all herein for all that is so freely given. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

Congrats on your good work and graduation. πŸ‘ πŸ‘

Always really good fun to see the Final Work which is out of the soul and passion of the Student Architect.
      No agencies and demanding clients.

      Now "Let the Games begin"
Good luck on the great adventure called Architecture.

      Cheers and time to party.

    • RE: A new home for SketchUp

      What to say ? 😞

      IMO only.

Google is a free swinging entrepreneurial cash cow and could afford to play around with SketchUp which may have served uses apparent and unseen that just no longer are of need.
Not artists but full of imagination and energy.
      Enter Trimble.
They are engineers and as an Architect I find them to be good fellows but for the most part just "technical bean counters".
Unless it computes it is not an answer.
IMO this is money deal and not an acquisition of passion and it would not be surprise at all to see a new price tag on every element of SU today.
Play to pay and download to get the latest and greatest.
Good chance that SU will in time just show as the engine for some engineering related application.
Just look hard at their website and know the face of the new girl in town.
For the nonce SU will probably stay as is so a good idea to buy the Pro version just to CYA.
As in the "Terminator" "la tormenta".
      She responded "I know."

      Cheers
