RE: Perpetual license
@Last is gone and the new owners view Sketchup just as a business.
The discount deal to subscribe is pretty good if the new features are really needed but you will be just a subscriber and with no feedback option like in the beginning.
IMO
If your most current SU does the job just keep your perpetual or free license and then you can use all your favorite plugins as well.
There is no way to be certain that the subscription versions will support your plugins in any case.
Even SU 8 with all the super plugins that there are is very powerful and complete for most modeling.
Sketchup in the beginning was and still is the best conceptual modeling program that one could hope for but is not a Cad program and Layout is not either.
For Cad and production drawings Give Turbocad Deluxe a look.
It is very configurable and icons for all functions with user definable keystrokes too.
It has Model space/Paper space/xref and underlay PDF features.
Also will import/export Sketchup/Acad/Dxf/Stl and more.
Very affordable too.
Sketchup 2018 is a good stopping point as even old legacy plugins and all of my favorites still work properly.dtrarch

RE: Any digital substitute for the architectural classes?
Majid
In the US the NCARB has sections for study for certification.

I am not sure of the cost for each section, but a start for you in any case.
One on one can be on the computer as well.Good luck in your quest.

RE: Warehouse closing ?
Just a heads up.
Reminds me of the last scene in Terminator 1.
The little Mexican kid says "la tormenta"
and Sara Connor replies "I know"
Did the Terminator ever get better?
A metaphoric reference and well meant.dtrarch

Warehouse closing ?
Trimble looks like it is finishing the job on just how much the Subscription loves us all.
See the new limits on Warehouse downloads.
Not a huge deal as the quality of models available is not what it was before but good idea to select some dated items like vehicles while still available before the store closes.
Subscribe to use next?dtrarch

RE: So whats up with Sketchup??
Mc Gordon
Regarding SU older version install
Why stop at V2017 for plugins?
V2018 works for all the plugins I use both legacy extensions and paid for.
What is special to v2017 for plugins ???
My best guess for installing down.
I believe that you will need both the Serial number and Authorization code.
Also no maintenance would be available.
Question does Trimble just kill the use of the older version going back as it is connected on line for the back version install and are just greedy enough to do so.??
I believe there is not a problem with SU 8 if you have the install doc for SN and Authorization.Never a subscription for me for Sketchup or Adobe ever
Good luck and maybe someone else has better info please.dtrArch

RE: So whats up with Sketchup??
IMO there are two paths one can consider to stay or pay.
First if you are a service and must provide updated Sketchup files to others you will need to play the Trimble game and subscribe as a business decision.
Second if you are a processional of record and never share Sketchup files then best to just stick with the latest version of Sketchup you now have for internal project development.
As an Architect I provide Watermarked PDF files for approvals and construction documents.
If updated DWG files are required for record or processing (government agency etc)Turbocad Delux reads and saves as Sketchup and Acad which is a good choice for non Revit projects as it is simple, affordable $200)and has both paper and model space options.
For design development there is just nothing faster and easier to use than Sketchup and if Trimble kills the use of up to SU 2019 even on the same computer version Sketchup 8 with all the super Plugins that still work is more than enough to use on most any project.
Last but not least one can still use their favorite plugins which may be DOA for the subscription of the day.Hang in here at SketchUation

RE: Trade policy that makes me cranky :-(
Hi Didier
Well said.
Trimble has always been just for the profit and never appreciated that you in particular and others too from the very beginning have made Sketchup so complete and and freely given.
Trimble simply took your free gifts and never gave a thought to giving back.
Thank you so very much for all your good works.
I have stopped at SU 2018 as it is more than complete enough for any project I have done or could imagine.
I am happy to pay for what I need and use as a professional Architect.
The free game is over and subscription not free for education is just not an acceptable result.
Thank you a thousand times again for your generosity and goodness of spirit.David Rich Architect

RE: Double Line 2 (dline.rb update)
Hi Didier
I went to PM you and could not find a way to send to you so here it is.
Hi Didier
Really good of you to be of help
I have had no error messages, just function failure.
Draw double line fails to stay when using a double click or esc to terminate.
bug splat just exits SU and ask for a report.
To where ??
my dlin2 is dated 2/2/15
size 1,118
I do have a ruby console plugin but not sure of just what to do with it.
dline is a possible way to create reveals on non solid.
Even FormZ had this fcn way back when it had a hardware dongle.
Many thanks for all your super works way back in the beginning of time.
my regards

RE: SketchUp 2010 -> 2019
Hi Dave R #1
For me as an Architect I have stopped the upgrade at SU 2018 and happy to pay for maintenance only.
The things that make SU so special are the add-ons that that actually make it a more complete and usable tool.
The important issue for me is to keep the Legacy plugins still working that are core to my long term use with SU.
As Trimble changes modes Sketchup just becomes a different program system but only marginally better in function
The good old bread and butter scripts just stop working and are only fixed at random.
Thanks for all your good and generous help for the walking wounded in Sketchup.
You are well remembered.

RE: Double Line 2 (dline.rb update)
How about a version for SU2018 Pro ?
This will only work for select and bug splats sometimes too.
Thanks for any help.

RE: Double Line 2 (dline.rb update)
Didier dline v6 or 2?
The draw function does not terminate with either double click or esc.
esc just erases the line drawn when clicked
Bug Splats often on exit too.
Tested on SU2014 pro and SU2018 pro.
Works on select with any line or path ??Good and needed fcn and a fix please.
