Thanks for the reply - I'll try that - (keeping my fingers crossed!)

RE: Perpetual license
My M&S renewal was May 2020. It looks like I now have to migrate to a subscription to maintain my SU Pro licence, which the e-mail says is $240 for two years, but when I select 'subscription' the billing information does not show the discount and shows £446.
Don't want to proceed, only to find that I've paid double the correct amount.
Does the discount show up later in the billing process? -
RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
Well it looks like in its 'non-section cut activated' setting Skalp actually disables the native SU section cuts, which is annoying.
At the moment I am experimenting by activating Skalp section cut widths ( a sophistication I could do without) to see if I can get my section cuts back in Layout. -
RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
I still can't figure this out. But so I can get on with my work I've resorted to using 'hybrid' render mode in layout which seems to work ok (I usually only use 'render' mode).

RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
I've now disabled Skalp, and that seems to have fixed the problem.
I now need to work out why Skalp is causing the problem.

RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
Julu
I've never set the section cut width using Skalp before. I understand the need to control the hatch scale by setting the scale in Skalp, but not the section cut width - I usually set this thro the 'style' menu in SU.
I've tried several options and still I can't nail this. It seems to be something in the model that is not set right. (I blame my cat - she is always walking across the keyboard!).I will try some more setting tomorrow.
Cheers

RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
Not so quick, Cauldwell!
In order to get the section cut thickness to show in Layout, I've had to bump the section cut thickness up to 4 (in the model) which makes it look very chunky in the model, but correct in the Layout view. Very odd.

RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
OK, it must that particular model, because if I open another model file, then the cut section lines show in layout.
I will try deleting the model and starting again.
...
...UPDATE
I closed layout and re-opened it - no change.
I closed it again and re-opened it - SUCCESS. Cut section widths now restored. No idea what that was all about!! -
RE: Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
kass, thanks for checking this out for me.
Also, I am using the Skalp plugin. Thinking that it might be the problem, I've tried disabling the Skalp section layer, but the thick section lines did not appear. I'm still stumped!

Section Cut Widths not showing in layout
It appears that since the last update (17.2.2555) Layout now refuses to display the section cut width.
It looks ok in SU, but doesn't show in Layout. Is this a new 'feature'?
(This is SU 2017 Pro 64bit) -
RE: Price Rise
35% increase in the 'maintenance' charge!
Nice bit of PR trimble - not even an explanatory or apologetic comment.
We are all sheep being 'farmed' for our money. Shame, it is such good software.

RE: Solar north plugin (2015)
Box
Yes, you are quite correct, I did successfully access the warehouse (outside SU) using Chrome. IE is not my default browser. Although I'm still not sure why I was able to install the other plugins - maybe I didn't access these via the warehouse - I can't remember. Thanks for the tip.

RE: Solar north plugin (2015)
OK - sorted!
I could access the warehouse from within Sketchup, but wasn't signed in and couldn't sign in.
I did access it from my browser, and was 'signed-in' automatically.
I downloaded 'solar-north' - so it goes into my 'downloads' folder.
Meanwhile (!), back in Sketchup, I went to Window/Preferences/extensions and selected 'install extension' - SUCCESS.
Don't you just love these easy installers(!)Anyway, thanks again folks for all the advice.

RE: Solar north plugin (2015)
Thanks for the help folks.
I may have tracked down the problem. From within Sketchup, when I access the 'extension warehouse' I see that I'm not signed in, and when I click on the 'signin' button I get that same 'unable to access this page' message. This is despite the fact that I can access the warehouse from my browser (chrome)
and then I am signed in. Wierd! -
RE: Solar north plugin (2015)
I tried again and still get 'This page can't be displayed'.
(I checked my 'pro' licence and it seems ok, so I'm don't understand why it won't install) -
Solar north plugin (2015)
As I gradually rebuild my plugins after upgrading to SU 2015 (64bit) I realise that 'Solar North' is not available. When trying to install it there is a message 'This page can't be displayed'.
I don't think its me, as I've successfully re-installed a number of other plugins after upgrading.
Any idea when this will be fixed, as I use it all the time to adjust shadows? Thanks
-
RE: Proper Shadows on Moldings
With everything being white, good lighting (be it by the sun or artificial) is really important. The scene has very even lighting which won't show up the mouldings (as you can see). I would get a good punch of sunlight coming in somewhere to improve the lighting levels. (I rarely use artificial lighting myself)
TIP: if you add a ground plane on the outside of your building with a light, or white colour, applied to it, then it will help to bounce sunlight into the interior.
TIP2: never use 255,255,255 white. White should be roughly 235,235,235

RE: Useful Excel spreadsheets for Architecture
I downloaded this. It is a well constructed, useful little spreadsheet. Thanks

RE: Vray 2.0 service pack is here!!
openspaces
I'm having similar difficulty installing. I think I may have made the mistake of downloading directly from the website instead of going to my re-seller who provided the dongle.
Vray hasn't installed properly and now I have no vray at all either in SU2013 or 2014.
I'm still trying to sort it out. -
RE: Vray Glass
. . . also - there is nothing reflected in the windows, only sky. Being able to see realistic (or believable) reflections is what makes glass look right. So you need to set up some billboards that will be reflected in the glass.
Here is what I mean
