I am looking for someone to test on SU 2016 for Mac

      Hi Garry,

I'm hoping to upgrade soon from 2015, if I can get a licensing issue sorted with Trimble. If that happens sooner rather than later, then I'd be happy to test your plugin if you're still looking for somebody at that point.

I'm currently running OSX Mavericks [10.9.5], but also planning to upgrade to El Capitan once I'm certain of the stability / compatibility for my core apps.

      Whaat -

Is there a particular reason you don't offer Profile Builder 2 through the Sketchucation Plugin Store? I really object to having to create a Google account in order to purchase through the Extension Warehouse, but I'm keen on purchasing your plugin.

Garry — nice job on this plugin. Looks very comprehensive, flexible and well thought-out, and makes me wish that it was available back when I was still working as a cabinetmaker. Congrats.

    • RE: Best wireless multi-button configurable mouse

      Thanks for the feedback, Alan.

Shortly after posting I was in a store where the G602 was on sale and I almost bought it. But they didn't have any on display, only in the package... so I was reluctant to pull the trigger without getting a feel for it. Maybe a good thing that I held off.

The MX Master looks interesting —especially the horizontal scroll— though it seems a bit big for my hand. Wish the MX Evolution was still available, but it was replaced by the less-loved Performance MX.

Guess I have some more considering to do before deciding.

    • RE: Best wireless multi-button configurable mouse

Wondering if anyone is using the Logitech G602 as CAD mouse with SU and if so, how well does it work?

I've been considering both it and the new MX Master, but the multi-button programable feature makes the gaming mouse interesting for frequently used keyboard shortcuts.

Also if anyone is using any Logitech multi-button mouse on a Mac, now well does the Logitech driver software work for programming the buttons? Any limitations?

      Thanks,

    • RE: [REQUEST] Hide All Selected Layers for All Scenes

One option would be VisMap. I find it an indispensable extension for any model that includes a lot of scenes and layers. You can download it here:
      http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=23029%26amp;p=556327%26amp;hilit=vismap#p556956

It lays out scenes and layers in a grid of checkboxes. There is a checkbox to the left of the layer names that toggles that layer on/off for all scenes... which would accomplish what you're looking for (If I understood correctly).

Toggle layer on in all scenes
Toggle layer off in all scenes

      Hope this helps.

    • RE: Hyperloop Book built with SketchUp

Really fantastic worth — in both conception and presentation. I downloaded the pdf from your website and was really impressed with the quality of your design work, and the thinking behind it.

I've been following the Hyperloop story every since Musk open-sourced it. This seems a considerable contribution to the conceptual elaboration of the project. Well done.

    • RE: [Plugin] FloorGenerator ( Updated 6-Apr-2017)

What would be a really useful addition to this great plugin is a siding generation option.

Essentially it would just disable the random face divisions in order to generate horizontal or vertical siding using the existing functionality / options.

I saw that someone else had suggested this a year or two back, but didn't see any reply.

      Any chance of re-considering it?

      Thanks.

    • RE: [Plugin] TIG-LayerWatcher

And the string of TIG hits just keeps on coming!

I always draw on Layer0, but I have had issues with raw geometry ending up on other layers... usually after exploding a group without paying attention to the layer inheritance, or after changing the current layer in order to delete another layer into it — and then forgetting to reset the default layer before resuming drawing.

This will help to eliminate the untidy consequences of those occasional —usually late night— attention lapses.

Thanks for another useful plugin TIG. The Layers from/to List plugins will also see a lot of use and are equally appreciated.

      Cool style, as always Dave.

I'd be interested in a 'lid open view', assuming it's a hinged top. Would like to see if there's any internal dividers, other than what I'm assuming is the pencil drawer.

    • RE: [Plugin] Quick Camera Rotate 90Âş (Roll)

I use this great little plug-in a lot, especially to orient from the standard Top view for plans. Now I have a house whose grid is at 45° and I'd like to be able to use this to align the view (as a Parallel Projection).

Is there a simple mod to make this work for 45°? I took a quick look at the script, and it wasn't obvious to me, which variable/value to change.Maybe someone who actually knows what they're doing could help me out?

      Thanks.

    • How to prevent LayOut auto-update on PDF export?

I'm pulling my hair out in frustration with LayOut.

I have been trying to export a set of urgently needed permit drawings as a PDF from LayOut, and instead of what's showing on-screen — where I have intentionally not updated viewports in order to avoid unwanted SU scene changes— it auto-updates while processing the pdf, and leaves the LayOut doc in the updated state.

This with the auto-render settings turned off, and even after unlinking/embedding the SU documents, purging and locking all the drawing layers. It’s so unbelievably frustrating. The whole point of pdf is WYSIWYG - what’s showing on the screen should be exactly what’s exported/printed.

Is this a bug, an undocumented 'feature', or is there a hidden setting somewhere that I can toggle to prevent this behaviour? Would deleting the LO preference files help?

Anyone else experience this? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the replies, and especially to John for the very thorough explanation of the exact reasons for this convoluted behaviour.

No issues with Save, since it uses the proper default location.

      @slbaumgartner said:

...I sometimes notice that it goes to the last-accessed folder even when that has nothing to do with the file at hand. Usually not a problem with Save As provided you pay attention, but can be confusing with AutoSave.

I'm trying to do better at paying attention on Save As — but my point is that I shouldn't have to: for an app that prides itself on it's intuitiveness and simplicity, SU should default to the most obvious location.

Autosave file location is just an unmitigated mess. It can make for unbelievably frustrating searches for model versions that should all be in the original model's parent folder, unless explicitly chosen otherwise.

How anybody —read SU developer— could think that the settings for Save As and Autosave produce remotely helpful default behaviour is beyond me. (the only time I can be sure of where the autosave file will be found is when I've yet to save... which I now know why)

Thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy, nor are there gremlins in my Mac randomly flinging files to and fro. Just intentionally programmed SU behaviour —without available settings overrides— acting according to its developer's wishes. [/rant]

    • Save As / Autosave file location (Mac)

Can someone explain to me how SU decides which folder to save to? It feels like it randomly toss files all over the place, and if I'm not paying attention my files end up buried in the wrong folders.

I realize there must be some logic to the current scheme, (though it's a mystery to me what that is)... but why would it not save to the folder that original model was from? Is there some setting I'm missing?

You would think that you could set it under Model Info: File: General: Location — with the default being the current folder (parent of original document) — but that field is display only on my Mac, and shows only the top levels of the file path, i.e. Users/Home/Documents.

Every other software uses the parent folder of the current document as a default, and I only have to intervene in the save dialog if I want to change folder locations, not if I wish to use the same one as the original.

One of many small SU interface annoyances that adds to the friction of using an application that I depend on and otherwise enjoy. Frustrating.

      @rich o brien said:

      try twilight. it's faster

Had already downloaded Visualizer and played with it a bit - it's big advantage is just how simple it is. With no rendering understanding at all you can be up and running within a couple of minutes. The output isn't spectacular, but it's reasonable... especially given how no-fuss the whole process is.

The 'Visualizer is now free' announcement this week provided a good impetus to finally dip my toes into rendering —without investing any cash or time for the learning curve — but I already see where the limitations are... hence the interest in Twilight.

What seems cool about Twilight is that it has a lot more capability / power than Visualizer, but without adding all the complexity of the full-blown renderers. I hadn't realized that Twilight had a free version until seeing Rich's comment. Fast, free and capable sounds like a good combo!

Just downloaded it and looking forward to take it for a spin.
