RE: Overhead Line Shaft Detail

Yes. There should be a sort of fork with a long wooden handle to shift the belt back and forth between fast and loose pulleys. I have yet to find dimensioned drawings or even really good photos of the belt shifter.
Dave β it's not a dimensioned drawing or even a photo, but at 2:45 in the video linked above there's a good shot of the belt shifter you describe shifting between the two pulleys. (and again at around 4:00 showing the shift of power to the bandsaw)
Maybe you could contact them for good stills of the mechanism(s)? (Perhaps they also have drawings?)
Just a thought.

RE: Overhead Line Shaft Detail
Really cool Dave.
I've enjoyed seeing the evolution of your vintage lathe model and look forward to seeing it hooked up to your newly-modelled line shaft!
Makes me think of the Hancock Shaker Village shop:
(beautiful vintage shop and great video of this type of system in action for those who aren't familiar)

I would like to second the request for an import function. It would be very helpful for my workflow to be able to import csv's from my Excel project dashboard.

RE: [Plugin] Pie for SketchUp Beta (Windows Only)
Looks cool. It's too bad that it's Windows only or I would definitely give it a go.

RE: Work smarter not harder in 2022 with LayOut and SketchUp Pro

The LO API, can plugins / extensions be created for it yet? No? What? How many years has it been since this was first mentioned by SketchUp themselves (IIRC).
Ya, that's a head-scratcher, what's really happened there? You would think that it would be a major dev priority, given the missing LO features/capabilities/workflow automation that a live extension API would enable.
We have a plethora of talented extension authors that could leap into the breach and fill in the missing pieces, especially for supporting varied and/or specialized workflows and feature requests.
Weird that they made such a grand announcement (back in 2016, I think), raising expectations for a similar LO extension ecosystem to SU... then nothing for 5, now 6 years. WTF?

RE: Work smarter not harder in 2022 with LayOut and SketchUp Pro
Looks like one of the most feature-rich releases in recent years, though that's not been a very high bar!
Lots of long-time requests and annoyances left unaddressed, but the new additions β especially in LO β look good. I am most interested to hear how well it performs on M1 Macs, now that it runs natively. That alone could make it worth subscribing (I have a 2021 Classic license), since I plan on upgrading to a M1 MacBook at some point this year.
I'd still like to see the development pace accelerate somewhat β and address those longstanding issues β but the trajectory is encouraging, especially when compared to inevitable disappointment that attended previous releases.

RE: HISTORY IN 3D
Just astonishing β the combination of huge scope and high quality!

RE: HISTORY IN 3D
Fantastic work! I can't imagine how much effort must have into producing this. Congratulations on a brilliant result.

RE: Astonished video by Ian Hubert!
Amazing work and some of the most beautiful and detailed world-building CGI I've seen. Even more incredible when you consider it was primarily the work of a single 3D artist!
Certainly an impressive showcase for Blender's current capabilities (in the hands of a master).

RE: Modelling a tramway
Love your tram models and renders. So well done!
They bring back fond memories of my travels to Germany, in a previous career incarnation.

RE: [Plugin] ClothWorks v1.8.0 - 28 Apr 2024
Can ClothWorks be used to simulate shrink wrap? (I'm looking to shrink wrap glass bottles in cardboard trays, then stack the trays on a pallet and wrap the pallet)
I have read through the entire thread and the tent examples seem close to what I would need, and there was talk of an impending tent tutorial β but I don't think it has been released yet.
Anybody have experience trying out stretched materials over colliders? Any thoughts on how to proceed?

RE: Black Friday deals
Thanks juju,
Wanted to see if you had a good experience with them. I also remember Chipp also saying that he liked their products and had used them on his 'Alamo' project.
I downloaded the trials for both Sketch FX and AO yesterday and played with them a bit. I'm planning to pick up FX for sure, but I'm finding using AO in combination with FX taxes my poor old 2014 13" MacBook. The output looks fantastic though.

I'd hardly say I was active there, probably a handful of posts, if that many.
'Active' is relative of course β in a forum that doesn't have much activity! (You had posted enough times to indicate that you were a user of their plugins.)

RE: Black Friday deals
Fluid Interactive also has a Black Friday Special going on all their SketchUp extensions, less 30%.
Hi juju β I see that you've been active on the Sketch FX forums at Fluid: I'm considering buying it and I'm wondering what your experience has been and if you would recommend it?
(there isn't a massive amount of activity in the forums and many posts go unanswered, so it makes me a bit nervous about ongoing support. On the positive side, the fact that they have upgraded all of their extensions to work with 2021 is an encouraging sign, but still... would like to see a more active presence by the users, and especially the developer)

RE: Black Friday deals
Was also looking for Fluid discounts (Sketch FX and maybe Ambient Occlusion), but when you click through to purchase, there is no applied discount and no indication of a coupon.
They did announce it, but the link just takes you to their SU Extensions page with no indication of how to claim the discount.
Has anybody managed to successfully obtain the 30% on a Fluid extension?
