I think my only knowledge of Trimble, is Trimble Oil, and I am not at all aware of any other mainstream software tools developed by Trimble, so in that sense, this is quite a surprise.
I do hope as is mentioned that the core SketchUp team is kept on and encouraged.

RE: A new home for SketchUp
Perhaps Trimble could consider putting some of the top plugin developers on lucrative salaries, and cutting them loose.

RE: We need another World War!
I'm not so sure a war would help, as it seems that post war, gradually the same old same old re-establishes itself with a new face.
It has been a real eye opener to see the people of world who live in such wretched conditions willing to sacrifice everything to make change happen for their people.
Perhaps what we need is more in the line of a World Revolution. -
RE: A new home for SketchUp
Just a little scarey.
I would be interested to know future plans for development (is existing Trimble software becoming more SketchUp like, or visa/versa), affordability, the future of ruby?
And does this mean no more Basecamps

RE: SketchUp 8 unusably slow?
It also might be worth turning on Hidden Geometry and having a look. I had a file like this recently, and there was some unidentifiable weird geometry hidden. I was able to delete it and things improved considerably.
Also if you have things set up in Layers, try turning on individual layers and seeing how SketchUp responds. It may lead to the problem.
Good Luck -

@escapeartist said:
My opinion of a true viral video it that a real amateur group or individual put something together and it was "discovered" by the Internet at large. Lifted up by the masses if you will, not by some corporate marketing office trying to tell me what I should think "cool" is.
Jmo.
I guess after what I have been reading, that I am now questioning all of these internet successes.
I'm also wondering if it is now possible for someone (some product) to be successful without these tactics. -
RE: Is it just me...?
I think a little thing called "Sphere of Influence" is worth adopting. (as well as Rich and Tig's advice)
Make change happen by letting those around you see the positive results of the changes you have made. -
RE: Viral? (or how we are being sold to in the new age)
More reading here Mike.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomiogeron/2011/12/19/30-under-30-dan-greenbergs-sharethrough-redefines-online-video-and-advertising/What I find interesting is they are making advertising become content. In a sense this is a very subliminal way to channel people like me who are very suspicious of anything that smells like advertising without confessing that it is.
My interest is piqued because ( back to the music analogy) in the music game it used to be kosher to send a demo tape to an A&R man, radio DJ, etc., and there was a chance it would get listened to.
Now if you send an unsolicited file, you can be sure it will be trashed.
You can't blame these people, the internet has given us the power to connect, and therefore overwhelm. I read one guy who said it wasn't unusual to get over 1000 of these a week. Big files clogging up their email systems and generally pissing them off.
So now it's the You Tube route.
But that's where companies like Sharethrough come in. So in actuality thos "Viral" videos and adverts are getting substantial help along the way.
I believe it is Sharethrough that won't charge unless you get 100,000 hits.
Since this seems to apply across all fields, not just music, it seems to me we have taken the power away from the big corporations, (you know empowerment), and given it back to..... well according to the above Forbes link.... the big corporations.
Sweet move. -
Viral? (or how we are being sold to in the new age)
I have a friend.
A trench Musician with a lot of mileage under his belt.
We had a discussion about what has happened to the ladder you have to climb to be successful in the internet age.
We started with the music industry, but it became evident that it is no different in most industries.
So I would like to get your take on the process of connection, and reaching target audiences (markets), and the ways in which we are being unknowingly targeted ourselves by companies that are being created to devise ways of reaching us.
Here is an example to kickstart.

I saw that on Facebook this weekend, very interesting, great result but it's a lot of work for one image, hope he charged the client enough.
That was my impression too.
I thought with good rendering software and less post pro you could achieve similar results, but there are some things that he is doing that could certainly be really useful.
I still like what he accomplishes though. -

RE: Complex shape pushpulled?
Looks to me like all you have is edges, with no face, which means somewhere the perimeter is not connected. You need a face to pushpull.
Try drawing some lines from edge to edge and see if it forms a face, if it does keep drawing lines until it doesn't form a face. This will help narrow down where the lines aren't joined.
