You have the ability to report a policy violation directly from the 3D Warehouse. Just look for the "report a policy violation" link when looking at someone's work, and it will be reviewed.

I looked up people with the title "lee" and only found that he has a model saying that someone is using his work.. ??

Please clarify and I'll see if I can help.

    • RE: Whatever happened to common sense ...

It's not just this type of ridiculous thing with children at schools, you'll find the fear of litigation seeping into many different areas. For instance, I have had a number of injuries from the active lifestyle I practice, and getting meaningful advice from a doctor is almost impossible because as soon as they recommend something, that means they're liable for any complications thereafter.

My latest was a grade 3 separated shoulder that should have had surgery immediately. Instead, my ortho specialist recommended that I see how it heals and that many people have normal lives without surgical repair. Well it doesn't take more than a second to look at me and figure out I don't lead a normal life in the first place! Soooo after 2.5 months of rehab I went back and said that it wasn't going to be sufficiently strong enough and I said I wanted to look into the repair options. Well he agreed at this point (probably because I said I wanted to have this done) and we looked at the options. Turns out a few of the latest techniques were no longer viable because it was two plus months after the initial injury!! So we did the "golden standard" surgery, and I've been rehabbing since. That means it's been months and months and months of sidelined from the injury because my doctor was too scared to give me the straight up advice.

I've had this happen numerous times, and even getting a second opinion leads to the same non-advice..

It's frustrating and I totally blame the lawyers who make people believe that nothing is their fault and that everyone has the RIGHT to a benign life. Stuff happens in life, and as long as it wasn't malicious, then I say let it go.

So common sense...it's not as common as you'd like to think! πŸ˜‰

      We're quite the pessimists. πŸ’š

But Google boys, if you're reading along, I'm willing to pay for a serious and useful update - and I'm fairly sure that goes for many of my fellow SU users.

So ... get to it, you lazy frappucino slurping code monkeys!

      Amen.

Haa lol ...Well many of us are also smartwater drinking, rock climbing, bicycle/motorcycle racing, hardcore road running, skiing, mountain biking, fitness monkeys who give that all up on a regular basis to work our butts off making SketchUp, Layout, Stylebuilder, 3D Warehouse, and Google Earth as good as possible.

We understand your frustrations with the pace of development at times (and you can see that when we do things like give FREE upgrades to SketchUp Pro 6), but I can say that we are working very hard, and continuing to brainstorm many new and interesting things for all of the SketchUp faithful. So...please continue to keep that faith in us! πŸ˜„

The SketchUp team is strong and our goals are often difficult to achieve...so we do appreciate encouragement as much as we appreciate learning about your frustrations.

Some of the things we plan to do will not be as important to one person as they are to another, but know that we are trying to do a good job by all of you. ...especially the SketchUp faithful.

    • RE: Opening a DAMAGED file?

      Hi blumentopferde -

You can look for a backup file if you have auto save backup preference on. Search your system for .skb files, and look for one with the same name as the .skp file.

If you do not have a backup file on your system, PM me and I'll see if we can help.

Good luck, and let me know.

what version of SketchUp are you running, and what are you doing in SketchUp before your quit...? (i.e. are you using online help; are you uploading to 3D Warehouse; anything that uses/calls on a browsee?)

We might add some models of our new line of perfumed potatoes... they smell wonderful AND make a nice French fry!

I'll get someone to look into it. What would you like to be associated with: Skyscrapers, Cappuccino machines, or fancy toilets...? That's all we have left. πŸ˜‰

      We'll get it fixed.

      Cheers,

Update: we've wrongly attributed all of the skyscraper projects, so now you can only choose to be wrongly attributed with the Cappuccino machines, or fancy toilets. πŸ˜‰

If you go to the link I posted above(http://www.google.com/events/3dbasecamp/program.html), you'll see a session just for that:

Photo-Rendering Your SketchUp Models: Some Options
It's a big world of rendering options out there, and this session will attempt to provide some guidance about where to start. If you want to make your SketchUp models look more photographic, this will be the place to be.

    • RE: Google Earth 4.3 implications for SketchUp

Hi Fred, no implications to glean from that. SketchUp is heavily used for Google Earth model creation. We've totally beefed up the 3D capabilities and speed of Google Earth to make SketchUp models much better looking and faster loading...THAT is the implication of 4.3.

Google Earth 4.3 is a HUGE opportunity for the SketchUp community to continue creating incredibly cool 3D buildings! So let's get to it! πŸ˜„ The future of SketchUp and Google Earth together is very bright! ...especially if you have Photorealistic 3D models turned on and the new Sunlight feature turned up! πŸ˜‰ It's way cool.

    • RE: Base Camp 2008 !!!!!

Hey guys! As Aidan implied, there was a lot of work and coordination going into the newest newsletter so it took a little longer to post than normal. But it's worth it!!! Check it out!

3D Basecamp 2008 (June 11-13) is going to be a total blast! If you look at the Event Program, I think you'll find tons of cool stuff to get involved in! Digital imagery/Photoshop techniques, Geomodeling w/SketchUp and Google Earth, creating custom Styles, Ruby-ruby-ruby, working with terrain and irregular surfaces, plus techniques for promoting you work using Google resources and tons more!!! I can't wait!
      http://www.google.com/events/3dbasecamp/program.html

I really look forward to meeting you all at the awesome Google California campus!! Maybe someone can model Stan, the full size Tyrannosaurus Rex and Google mascot!!

So, if you want to receive and invitation (and who doesn't?!), sign up here! http://services.google.com/events/3dbasecamp_2008

Again, I (and the whole SketchUp/Layout team!) am really psyched to be able to meet with you all in person! Should really be fun and we'll learn a ton of new techniques, become totally inspired to make great work, and we'll make lots of new connections with fellow Sketchers!

      See ya there (I hope!)!!

    • RE: Google earth terrain import

      Hi mirjman -

You can gain resolution by zooming into the Google Earth terrain area and using "Get current view" in SketchUp. Then just move the location in GE and use "Get current view" again, to stitch together a higher resolution terrain.
