I've found it referred to on a couple of occasions, and I've got the same problem.
It doesn't actually indicate what the failure was - it just scomes up with:

    Feature transfer error
    DefaultFeature:
    Component:
    File:
    Error: Catastrophic failure

I had a severe crash, installed a new (better) mother board, a new (better) processor, and re-installed XP Pro.
Now I can't re-load Sketchup 6 Pro, even though it installed on the old machine.
I'm the administrator, I've installed all the latest drivers. Cleaned out the registry.
    I've checked that it's a good download.
I've even tried installing Sketchup 6 (free). Same result.
So I'm now in a position where I paid a few hundred dollars for a program I can't use (on this machine, at the moment).
Has anyone recently resolved this problem?

I'm sure a PM to either Brad or CraigD from the Google team would be quite fruitful.

          Hi Micronair,

Sorry to hear about the problem. I read that you cleaned out the registry so I'm assuming Windows 😕

Can you give us some more information about your machine?
          Video Card.
What version of SU ie. the latest M4?
Do you have the latest MS SP?
          etc...

          The more information the better.

          Thanks

While we've not come up with a solution to this issue, I did come across this post while searching for one...

            http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1030304

Ultimately they referenced an InstallShield (whom we currently use for our Windows installs) article; http://knowledge.macrovision.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108247&sliceId=1

I'd love to find out if this helps so we can document it and spread the word, if you get a chance to try it out, please let me know.

            Cheers,

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I tried all of the suggestions, including the amendment to the installshield reference.
My machine is an AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+
                2.2 GHz, 2 Gb Ram
                XP Pro SP3
                Nvidia GeForce 7100 GS

                  Hooray & Aarghh!

For the umpteenth time, I've tried fixes & re-downloads of Sketchup Pro 6 - always getting the 'catastrophic Failure' message.

However, today I downloaded Sketchup 6, and ended up with Sketchup 7!
Amazing, but it installed and works fine, even though it cost me another £51.00.

                  That's the good part!

It comes with Layout2 & Style Builder, neither of which work - 'encountered an error....'
Shall I make a new post?
