Google has reorganized the SketchUp websites again. Here's Aidan's blog on it:

    New and improved!

Follow the SketchUpdate blog for SketchUp news, modeling tips and tricks, user stories and more.

    (sketchupdate.blogspot.com)

Some links I had saved to various places within the old SketchUp website have now stopped working. And I noticed that they have now attributed a project of mine in the architecture case studies

Web word processing, presentations and spreadsheets

    (docs.google.com)

(The Brooklyn Atlantic Yards project) to another architect. Yuck.

The whole site is now more in-line with the general run of Google websites, which unfortunately means it is now even more anonymous...our little modeler is just one more app in the big stable.

When you navigate to the link it is no longer your project but that of Steven Glickman architect dude.

I have always been somewhat sceptical of "company style guidelines" or similar concepts. Of course, a logo might be useful, but many companies just are so diversified and segmented that any strict regulations become straitjackets that neither customers or staff feel comfortable with. If you sell potatoes and perfume and try to do it in a common style the result is usually drab.

Great. Thanks Google! I've gone from designing stadia and laboratories to barns now. On the other hand, it is probably less stressful.

            Lewis
yes, less stressful because designing sheep barns means less demands and eventually fewer complaints from the users πŸ˜‰

I'll get someone to look into it. What would you like to be associated with: Skyscrapers, Cappuccino machines, or fancy toilets...? That's all we have left. πŸ˜‰

              We'll get it fixed.

              Cheers,

               - CraigD

Update: we've wrongly attributed all of the skyscraper projects, so now you can only choose to be wrongly attributed with the Cappuccino machines, or fancy toilets. πŸ˜‰

I'll go with the cappuccino machines then. God knows I have enough experience with the things.

HAa haaa LOL! We're working on fixing the links...

We might add some models of our new line of perfumed potatoes... they smell wonderful AND make a nice French fry!

We'll let you know when the fix is in.

                  Cheers,

Yeah, the ['New, Improved!!!'] site is pretty uninspiring.
And the galleries, [found after some serious searching] seem to be pretty heavily pruned.
The LA section, for example, consists of two entries. Which is fine by me as the stuff I had posted was out of date and unrepresentative anyway. πŸ˜„

Lewis, don't feel so bad. Their link to Smustard.com ended up being mustard.com .

...with that special SDK relish and a heaping side order of Google Gears?

Seriously, though, I have to agree with Stu...much of that case study and gallery stuff (including my work) is so old. I think even that CNC-milled model--the newest item of mine that somehow ended up on the SketchUp site--was made from a SU3 file. If it were my product, I'd update the whole thing with some of the fancy imagery from the gallery forum here, or stills from one of the wilder Sketchy Physics vids, or something. So many people have made such elaborate eyecandy with the software since 2004!

...I wonder if there is much money in barn design. Maybe I should go with the flow and just add that to my letterhead.

                          Lewis,

'We Design Barns' has a nice folksie ring to it.

I can remember being pretty pleased when some of my stuff was in the @Last SU gallery....but I dont think I could bother too much these days.

There are some nice images in the Architecture section...along with some very average stuff...but why aren't the galleries in the homepage menu? The gallery section is about the first thing I look at if I'm checking the website of an interesting application.

And the SU front page misses the small "lines to faces to buildings" video that was the first thing to make me a convert in the early rel.3 days.
