Thanks Fredo. I think loft is what I was looking for. I just couldn't think of the name so I could search properly. No, nothing bad happened. I just got involved in a lot of other projects. I am getting back into SU now because of one of my newest projects, 3d printing.

SU 2013 doesn't appear to have any drastic changes - I hope it hasn't thrown up any hurdles to SP development? http://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-pro/new-in-2013

I recently downloaded a trial version of Sketchup Pro Version 14 (I am on a Mac platform) and the program crashes frequently. I am using Twilight Render but even without using the render program it crashes. My experience with earlier versions was very stable, I am even looking for an earlier version to try. Also exactly what is Sketchup SP. I use Blender and Lightwave but Sketchup seem so much easier to use. By the way there is also no BUG SPLAT when it crashes, any ideas on how to fix this? @ashscott said: Try making a simple SP file from scratch - sounds like there might be something in your file that is causing issues if you have been trying to open the same file - You're right - starting with a clean file cleared the fault. It seems there's a conflict between version 3.1 & 3.2. I started working with 3.2 & have some files created with that version. Then having had a problem, I went to re-install & could only access v3.1, so have continued using this version. If I open an existing file that was not originally created in 3.1... the programme crashes (to be expected I suppose - but it then continues to crash with files of either versions). Your suggestion has given me a way to clear the problem. Ideally, I'd like to re-install 3.2 & keep to it - but can't seem to access it now. Anyone know where its's gone?

Ya SU is a little rusty on curves so the setup is a little different. SU itself only creates curves with the circle and arc tools, and the add_curve function in Ruby, which is all very limiting. So the best thing to do is getting the Weld plugin for SU, or any of the various spline plugins that let you make curves with alot more precision and ease. When you have a curve, right-click it and go to SketchyPhysics -> Make physics curve, this will give you a prompt for a new name, write it and hit OK, and you got your curve set up. Now a couple of extra tips: closed curves don't have a predefined start point (so every time you open your model the starting point will be different, sometimes it even switches between simulations) curve orientation sometimes changes (it may move in one direction once created, and then switch after opening the model again, I'm sure there is a reason for this, but I haven't yet found it)

@ashscott said: Simfonia has a small part of it that handles physics simulations called "Bullet" physics which I would say has about one tenth of the power for physical simulations that SP has. Simfonia has a lot of other things but SP is an entirely different beast - an awesome one at that. PS - I have a paid Simfonia license and love it Which is one of the reasons I was not enamored with SimFonia. That and the screen real estate the multiple dialog boxes took, aside from their amateurish layouts. But as you said, it has some other worthy attributes.

Nothing makes me smile as much as seeing a post from Chris Phillips (though of course I always wonder how much of what I have learned over the last year is now superfluous). I will love to see how all this relates to that crazy piano and drum kit posted and shared in the past. Good luck with the remodel...can't you just do it in sketchy physics, give everyone a VR hood and call it good?

No I wasn't. I had forgotten about that. It helps a quite a bit 68 sec without, 11 sec with, and 6 sec if no start/commit used. But still first run 11 sec and second run it only takes 2 sec.

Hey Chris: I am having problems with the Linear Damping on objects. Some C++ Sketchup script is terminating Sketchup after a number of frames whenever I have it running. It has something to do with Runtime. Do you know what might be happening? Thanks in advance, Chris EDIT: It only happens when I set Linear Damping before altering gravity.

@frediivx said: I was wondering, is there any way to put scripts in the white boxes? Because I was trying to set the ratio of a gear to something like getVar('Ratio') but it won't let me type letters in any of the white boxes, so I tried copying getVar('Ratio') into it, it lets me do that but it's gone the next time I open the UI box. you can only put script in blue boxes not white

Hi, I would like to have information on the units of the mechanical adjustments. Example: Density in kg / m-cubic yes? For motors: Max acceleration, Strength ( force en newton ) what are these settings for from a physical point of view. How to make the link with the reality of indoor tests and measurements? how to use them. Are there any examples of calibrations? Where to find this information. Thanks, happy New Year. jean-luc

Did this in a few hours. It uses the Knight model and animation from Scott Lininger's Prince IO game: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=14291&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a It uses lookAt to point the knight in the direction the joystick is pointed. and the new push command to make him move. The animation is a trick used in the Knight game. The object really contains all the animations as hidden geometry. I cheated a little bit on the animation playback.
