I have been getting reports that SP is much more prone to crashing under Sketchup 8 than it was with 7. I now have a hint as to what might be at least one of the problems.

It seems that scripted objects and controlled joints that have ruby errors in them could cause SU to crash. If you open the ruby console while the simulation is running and there are a bunch of errors being printed that might be the cause of crashes.

I would appreciate any feedback on this issue so if it really is a problem I can inform google about it.

      Thanks
      Chris

        Hey!
I've got the problem that SU8 crashes really often, but I hav'nt say something cause I think that my computer is a bit slow to handle some physics...

Most crashes happen when I had save right before I start the simulation.
(Saving to be sure, and start simulation right after = CRASHING)
Not really often that the SU Crash in middle of a simulation.

I tested to run physics with no objects or no script, and open Ruby Console...
Ruby console view this, repeating during the simulation:
E:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/SketchyPhysics3/ControllerCommands.rb:1005: warning: don't put space before argument parentheses E:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/SketchyPhysics3/ControllerCommands.rb:1005: warning: parenthesize argument(s) for future version

Try fixing that warning and see if it is more stable.

Also when it crashes does it Bugsplat or is it some other crash. In the case I mentioned above it didn't Bugsplat.

I found another crash bug under SU8. It turns out using the "showcollision" flag on any object can cause it to crash.

If someone has a model that crashes and does NOT use showcollision please let me know. I want to try to clear up these issues and do a new release.

            Thanks
            Chris

I recently downloaded a trial version of Sketchup Pro Version 14 (I am on a Mac platform) and the program crashes frequently. I am using Twilight Render but even without using the render program it crashes. My experience with earlier versions was very stable, I am even looking for an earlier version to try. Also exactly what is Sketchup SP. I use Blender and Lightwave but Sketchup seem so much easier to use.

By the way there is also no BUG SPLAT when it crashes, any ideas on how to fix this?
