Chuck the 30 day trial of Bonzai 3D will let you import STL files and you can dimension there and render in the Render plus trial that comes along with it.

RE: [Plugin] Extrude Edges by Face
TIG, there now seems to be a problem with your latest EEBRF:-

so far so good..

It just stops working here after clicking OK.

RE: Thoughts on creating technical illustrations?
Chuck, as a matter of interest only-because I am unfamiliar with STL printing, are you are seeing SU/Layout in the loop?
-
RE: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Full Set
TIG, in addition to your toolbar showing a blank button, I also get a blank button on my Mac with Jim Folz's MakeOrthoViews.rb I have no idea what causes it though. Maybe if you look at Jim's script it will give you a clue?
Edit - just realised Jim's script is encrypted!

RE: Podium 2 beta 2
Is there going to be a Mac version?

RE: Still looking for a good drafting companion for Sketchup...
There is a pretty comprehensive list of resources inlcuding CAD here

RE: Unhide Hidden Edges?
The difference between hidden and softened lines is that softened lines will create a smoother surface while if you hide lines, they will maintain shape and the faces they separate appear distinct. In the picture of the hexagonal cylinder below, the line on the left was just hidden, that on the right softened.

RE: Unhide Hidden Edges?
Click on View > Hidden geometry, to reveal all hidden lines in the model.
I suspect you softened your lines using the eraser tool rather than hiding your lines - otherwise a simple "Unhide " will work. Click on View > Hidden geometry, to reveal all hidden lines in the model. Now you can see the lines, select the ones you want to see and right click for the context menus - click "Unsoften".
To your second question - Yes and Yes.

RE: Line ,Polyline, Perimeter Ratio Divider or Extender w/
Have you been taking lessons from Durant?

RE: Simple and Quick
Nice work Dave, the renders are good too - I particularly like the texturing on the clock.

RE: [Concept] Materials++
Thom,
A button to rotate a texture and duplicate it in the process through 90 degrees would be useful. It's easy enough to do on a single planar face using texture>position but for simply dropping a texture on a curved surface, I'd like to have the two orientations readily available. -
RE: How can I add new styles to SU on a Mac?
Chuck,
I doubt very much that it's anything to worry about - I'd just leave it.

RE: Question for our friends from Great Britain

Personally I would rather see the British Monarch disposed of, got rid of. They are a massive expense, and waste of British tax-payers money (and at the moment, the average British tax payer is screwed). As for that prince charles bloke, he should be stripped from his authority immediately. Several important building and architectural proposals across Britain have been scrapped because of charles, with his backward and highly conservative opinions, being allowed air.
I know some of you Americans have rosy views of britain's monarchy, but they just aren't as 'romantic', or awe-inspiring, as you make them out to be.
Somehow I prefer the Queen as Head of State to President Brown...

RE: Tool Cabinet in Progress
Todd,
That is pretty nice. Are you going to include the possibility to list materials too?
And, most important, when will we woodworkers be able to get our hands on it?

RE: [Needed] Wood texture
Have you checked out the freebie Arroway textures? http://www.arroway-textures.com/en/products/wood-2/contents
There is a bamboo in different colours plus other stuff that might work for you.

We just watched another movie about another great queen.
After each movie, we have to check out Wikipedia and re-work the line of Kings and Queens in the 1800s and 1900s. (This should be easy because two women ruled almost half of those years).
So here is the question: Do you all just remember who was who for the past 200 years, or do you have to look it up all the time too?
--
Regarding U.S. Presidents: I remember #1, #16 and everyone for the past 60 years, but I can never remember where the other fit in without looking it up.
200 years is not too bad - we have had far fewer monarchs than you have had presidents!

RE: How can I add new styles to SU on a Mac?
That's intriguing, I put a lin subfolder inside the Default styles folder and I get no Runtime line but just a picture of a folder in the thumbnails of styles.
Baffled!

RE: Timber types
The free versions of the Arroway textures are good for a lot of furniture sized items.
