Answering my own problem here. It seems that Sketchucation tools is the culprit. I transferred the version I was using with SU 2016 and used it alongside the plugins that the Trimble extension manager had installed. Having removed the SU Tools extension, memory requirements dropped dramatically to something reasonable.

Doing a bit of research, I found SU tools v. 3.1.3 but could not get them to install in SU2017 Pro 17.3.116 - I unzipped the rbz and put them in the plugins folder then relaunched SO but to no avail.

It seems that Trimble are determined that one should use their extensions manager.

I just installed SU 2017 Pro on my iMac 5k. Simply opening the app with a few of the plugins I used in 2016 and the memory use is 7.5GB. Trying to do something like putting materials on a test cube and memory use climbs to 21 GB.

The app is basically unusable at present. I'd be grateful for any ideas!

SU 2018 appears to be available in Oz.

I have now tried batching with SKP, SKM and Layout files. They all seem to work OK - very well in fact with the exception of a single glitch with one layout file that retained the image from another file. I need to examine the file tomorrow to see if it is indeed a glitch with the plugin or more likely, something on my part…

I'd say the plugin is definitely release worthy!

Many thanks for your help here and in PMs. Problem now solved by deleting a Qlgenerator that I installed recently and which I had clean forgotten all about - duh!

In OSX 10.10., having preview turned on in Finder is a nightmare if one clicks on an SKP file. After much beachball spinning a preview consisting of the Chinese alphabet repeated endlessly (or something like it) appears. For large files, I have to force quit the finder to stop the useless waiting.

Until now, I have kept Sketchup files in folders that relate to whatever project I am working on but it's too easy to accidentally click on a file this way. I am now consider moving all SP files to a separate location.

I also recall someone on this forum seeking help to develop/test a cabinet design plugin but I can't find the reference - perhaps Dave remembers?

Although I use a Mac, I usually have a Windows 7 VM running under Parallels for a couple of programs that are Windows only so I thought I would give the Preview edition a whirl.

I have to say I absolutely hated it from the start. Like OS X Lion, they are trying to bring a mobile interface to the desktop and for me at least, it doesn't work. I am happy using my iPhone or iPad but I do NOT want my desktop to emulate them in any way. Share data yes - but that's it. As Mountain Lion seems destined to take this further on the Mac, I can see myself ending up with Linux.

I am intrigued why you should need a lot of detail in bolts as per your example (threads drive this I guess?) in a big model - can't you separate the necessary detailed models for a particular part of the process and then add other models as needed?

If it is just for illustrative purposes, these could be combined as required in Layout if you used the Pro version - and your mention of industrial purposes suggests someone might pay for it..

What version of LibFredo6 are you running?
In which folders have you installed the plugin and library?

A couple of folk have recently sought help on recovering their models. If they had used TIG's excellent archiver life would be a lot easier for them.

I thought it might be worth a reminder to folk that this plugin exists.

I am afraid I can't open it on my Mac - crashes SU. I can see a thumbnail with a number of objects in it.

As long as components haven't been purged from model, it would make it very easy to replace stuff that has been deleted from the working model - sort of paste in place for things not on the clipboard.

On the Mac it appears to be 1000 upper limit.

Yes, sorry - I got interrupted and neglected to come back and finish the post properly.

I used extrudeline.rb to extrude the curve and then JPP to thicken it.

I could probably have used follow-me with a section of the stair rail and this would be needed for a shaped banister.

(Of course, I also first scaled the image using the dimensions on the plan).

In my case, when I see that message it seems to be because I have a system-wide shortcut already assigned to the key - check through the shortcuts in system preferences>keyboard to see if something is already assigned there. Also if you have any other shortcut managers running (eg keyboard maestro etc.) then these might affect things.
