It's a shame you can't see it, it is one of the funniest series ever put out by the Beeb. It belongs right up there with the very best of comedy.

RE: Strange SU 8 bug?
Dave,
My problem was as dbll described - I am happy to say his advice to reset the workspace (for which many thanks) did the trick. It's not something I have ever had cause to do before - there's a first time for everything I suppose.

RE: Virtual chair
I think you probably forgot to post a picture or sketchup model of the chair?

Strange SU 8 bug?
I have recently started using SU 8 Pro (SU7 Pro before) on my Mac Pro
I am puzzled by the appearance of the Entity Info window that is truncating/obscuring some information because the window is not tall enough and will not resize sufficently (see the screen shots). No such problem was/is experienced with SU 7
I'd be grateful for any suggestions!

RE: Happy New Year
A Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to everyone!
And many thanks to those that helped me out in 2010- I am sure there were many hours of selfless effort behind a lot of what I got here.

RE: Cost plugin. Is there a good one out there?
There's cutlist, used by a lot of woodworkers that could perhaps help you.

RE: TIPS NEEDED FOR ORGANIC MODELING IN SU
The free training edition of Tgi3d amorph might be enough for a simple structure - worth testing it at least. You can model the wavy rectangle then thicken it as needed with JPP.
TIGs extrude series of plugins would also work for you in all likelihood - simple example:-

RE: JPEG EXPORT - options don't change a thing
On my Mac and surprisingly, the PNG export file is about a third the size of the JPEG - its usually the other way round when I export images from other apps.

RE: A Thread for Fine Design
As a woodworker, this gets me going.

RE: Su for furniture design
Dave is perhaps too modest to advertise the fact that together with Tim Killen he has a very active role in educating folk in the use of SU for woodwork/furniture design. The Fine Woodworking site here http://www.finewoodworking.com/blog/design-click-build is their baby.
Dave also seems to have unlimited patience in helping people with SU questions in various woodworking forums and his own furniture designs in SU are a great inspiration.
He certainly does use Layout, I bought the Pro version of SU after seeing his comments on it!

RE: Explode to Individual Components / Groups ???
Not quite sure if this is what you are after but might help?

RE: Trends - Sketchup vs others
Actually, taking a somewhat broader view, you can see that Sketchup is really of very little importance..

RE: How many plugins is too many?
When you can't remember what they do, you have passed the limit!

RE: Stretch a roof
Here is my attempt using TIG's Extrude edges by Rails. I have only done half as a demonstration. I think it works better for the corner with the straight edge although the other quadrant could be a bit smoother - perhaps by altering the number of line segments?

RE: Cordless Drill
If Planet Festool is too far, something closer to earth is the Panasonic range. I love Festool stuff and have several of their tools but for a drill I couldn't face the cost but wanted a good tool. Lots of research led me to Panasonic and I am very happy indeed with it. My new 14.4 Li-ion drill is lighter than the 12v NiCad drills I have had, much more powerful and very well balanced. It drives screws perfectly too.

RE: [Plugin] ThomThom's Menu
Thanks for this Thom. I do like the Group by Author system - when it's got a TT stamp (or a TIG, Chris Fulmer, Fredo etc. stamp on it, there is some guarantee of quality!)
Ideally, a menu that could be sorted on the fly in the manner of a booklist - by author, purpose, date etc would be useful especially if it could load/unload plugins as needed..
