Modeled the huge pile using sand box and textured it with a map. I then used skatter to add thousands of objects to litter the surface to create the top layer trash.

Thank you to all who responded. You've all helped immensely with your suggestions. Here is the first pass of the render. Still have a few adjustments to make but the client expressed satisfaction with the output. ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„

    • How to Model Rubbish

My current project requires me to model, in preparation for rendering, rubbish. Rubbish, as in landfill rubbish.

Our team is to create a flythrough of a landfill to be converted into industrial park.

What would be your suggestions on the most realistic way to model landfill rubbish or garbage without making the whole scene unresponsive in the process?

The scale of the amount of rubbish to be modeled is frankly overwhelming me at the moment. while most of the trash would be underneath the whole 'pile' the top surface needs to show some semblance of form and shapes of general trash.

      Any thoughts?

    • RE: Lost my keyboard shortcuts!

I would humbly suggest you export your keyboard shortcuts regularly keeping a copy of the file in the cloud such as your email, dropbox or gdrive. In the event you lose your shortcuts or you are working on a new machine, you can easily retrieve your keyboard shortcuts in a flash

This is still an issue in Layout 2017. I can't believe they haven't fixed this critical feature.

Just an update on this, I've tried this on LayOut 2015 hoping this has been resolved, but the new LayOut still exhibits the same behavior with inserted models

    • Controlling Lines from Inserted Models

It has been suggested I make this into a new thread.

Hi everyone, i'm new to using layout to make CDs. Forgive me if this has been asked.

I'm having trouble when inserting sketchup models into layout. I find that corners are rounded rather than sharp.

I can draw a box within layout with sharp corners, but i can't seem to find any way to make the corners of inserted models not rounded.

changing from raster to vector or hybrid sharpens the line quality but does nothing though to achieve what i want: namely, sharp, 90degree corners that aren't rounded.. =(

      anyone have any other tips?

    • How to model this Aircraft hangar

i realize this is probably very easy for most users here on the advanced level.

any thoughts on how to model this?

    • Materials can't be removed

I have a problem that's driving me absolutely nuts.

Every model I open has these four materials

      http://i.imgur.com/ltzlM.png

I've used the purge ruby and they are deleted. I've also opened model info and used the purge button there and they likewise go away.

When I reopen sketchup, they're back.

I've tried purging then saving as template, without the materials present in model and when i save and reopen sketchup they're back again.

Can anyone assist me in how to remove these annoying materials.

I suspect the source of these materials was one model I downloaded from 3dwarehouse.

I tried reinstalling sketchup and it got removed. However when I open one of the models i'm working on, they're back in their immortal state.

I can't re-do the models i'm working on since they're already too complex and I need them for work. I need a solution that purges these materials permanently from any model i'm already working on.
