One for me was when Gaieus was from Gaieus' talk at the Basecamp (I saw the video) and using the rotate tool.

When you click the rotate tool and click the rotation point, don't let go of the mouse button... drag it out to either red or green (or any other snap point you set up) then click to start. This relieves any need for a vertical plane to get your rotation set up.

      See image for example.

I have been using SU since V2 and never knew that until last year.

Ooh, wow, that one hurts. In a good way.

      Some Duh! moments I've had:

Realising the Taper tool could be used to scale a model.

Realising that I could change the radius of a circle that's been extruded.

The taper tool? Is this my duh moment? OK, where? A plugin?

    • RE: Re: [Plugin] Another Mirror Ruby

Thanks for the script. However, I get a Bug Splat when I do not erase the original. I do not have this problem with SU 6. I'm running SU7.

Quite fun to play around with. Thank you so much.

Could you provide a brief description of each setting. Some are painfully obvious, others not so much, for me at least.

    • RE: Autocad 11 vs. Sketchup

      Dedmin,

Yeah, I'll give the demo a try. Sounds like Autodesk is getting close, but close enough.

Have you just tried the demo or do you use 2011 on a regular basis?

Just read and viewed to videos for the new Autocad 11. The 3d Free Form Design tools look very interesting, and similar. Anyone have comparative comments?

TIG, I keep getting bug splats. Trying to do 2 meshes on 3 circles. Each circle has a line attached to it.

Marcus, yes, I may just have to from scratch. I was trying to think of a shortcut like photomatch. Appreciate your response too.

    • RE: 3d chair modeling

      David,

Yes, I have the chair you posted. It doesn't have to be that detailed, but I will have rather close views of it. I'd like to eventually have a fairly close representation, shape, color and tablet. That'd be my goal.

Thanks for your input. I just didn't know if I could start modeling by using photos the I've taken and how to begin.

I know it's soon to say so, but, awe, no takers? I don't blame you.

    • 3d chair modeling

I was wondering if anyone can point me to a method or begining process of modeling this chair. My first thought of course is to use photo match, but there practically is no good corner to start with. I have access to the chair and could raise the tablet and shoot other photos to help me.

      Thank you in advance.20090918_0008a.JPG

      Chris, well there it is.

Thank you. I forgot to check the preferences all the while thinking there we one place like that to check. I'll have to remember that for future problems.

Can you provide a brief summary as to how that would impact the model, or what the benefit would be, since the edge are hidden?

      Chris,

My folders are configured just as you say and no-go. I even deleted all the files and reinstalled the zip file.

I'm puzzled too, because on another computer it works just fine. ❓

I appreciate your help and love your script (on the other computer πŸ˜‰ )

      Hi Chris,

I installed v1.2 and the script doesn't show up anywhere, not under the Plugins pull-down, or your separate sub-list under Plugins.

      I'd appreciate your help.

      Thank you. Ben

I've got a mental block and can't seem to find the ruby that inserts a circle/shape normal to the end of a line. Can someone help?

    • RE: [Opinion]US healthcare bill

It is not the US government's role to make sure that everyone has health insurance. As for comments I've heard about military costs, it may be high, but at least that is where the US gov't. should be spending it's resources.
