Thanks Guys, wish I had more hours in a week to throw at this!

My Guess is with the full interior Complete she will be around a million Polys, with probably around 10 4096x4096 Textures ( Each with 6 Different layers, AO, Normals , Rougness etc. )

Completed the Fire Monitors,I was dreading thes,e but they weren't as bad as I thought, only took 4 hours.

Will still be adding the tow rope itself as soon as I can find a acceptable method to make a low poly version of it.

Completed the working parts for the azimuth stern drive (ASD) and cleaned up the interior walls.

At the bow the area is raised to allow 2 stories, goes half way above the main diesel tanks and then single at the engine room.

Decided to get the Engines completed, im happy with the LOD for these, its tempting to just keep adding detail, but there comes a point where you just have to decide..

The turbo was Subdiv. and the rest was hard surface.Theres a bunch of Decals that will be added later, but I will do all of them at the same time.

Engine is currently at 35600 Polys.

Thanks guys, hellnbak even with what seems to be so much reference out there you will be surprised how some areas are hidden, I really dont like taking guesses with anything, thats why many hours are spent doing research on every part, me and my research department ( Thanks babe πŸ˜› ) have been searching like crazy for this 10 - 50 (or 150?) Ton Rolls Royce towing winch, and nothing but this low res image on a 226 page pdf on the Rolls Royce website:

      https://www.dropbox.com/s/ramt04ht4z8owum/Winch.jpg?raw=1

Not sure why RR has it mirrored, its correctly fitted on my tug as the real one is.

What makes things even more tricky is many items have been added over the years that are not on the blueprints or on any of the marketing brochures, luckily they are small things.

Progress so far includes many details around the aft towing winch, the winch itself ( not happy with that rope texture, will still be spending some time there ) and details on the funnels

Thanks guys, trying to keep the pace up on this one but man there is alot to make! my guess is this is going to be around 150 - 200 Hours before completion!

Alot of the time has been spent on the interior which will only be shown when its looking semi decent, Work has started on the superstructure and those crazy exhausts! Fore and aft towing fairleads are complete along with the aft deck planking and hatches. Engine intake vents are shown as well, im not 100% sure how close to the deck they go at the moment as they are well hidden behine the aft towing winch, as soon as I can find some images or some reference I will adjust them if need be.

      Thanks Guys,

Been a crazy week so not much progress on the tug, but the hull interior walls and partitions are in, Engine room and steering room are ready for details to be added, redid the subsurf on the azimuth as I wasnt happy with the shape ( misread the blueprints )

Been working on the powerplants, here are some stats you can relate to vs. your car:

      Displacement Car: +-2.0L
      Displacement Tug: 148.0L

Engine Dry Weight Car: +- 120kg
Engine Dry Weight Tug: +- 19000kg

      Engine Power Car: +- 140hp
      Engine Power Tug: +- 3634hp

The size is clear in the images shown below, and to top it off she has 2 of them!
Images were rendered in Substance painter after I did a quick UV unwrap and applied some standard materials in Substance.

Thanks Guys, those holes are cutouts done in SUm was thinking of doing an alpha map for them, but you would need huge res to get decent definition, so I opted to go 12 sided.

In future If possible ill post the model image next to the Real thing (DONE!), Forgot about quite a few things on that Dinghy! the Rope around the sides would have looked awesome, shes being stripped atm for a refit after years of hard use have taken their toll!

Thanks Chaps, Ewie the Extrusion is already made, it was actually that tool (Create Loft Junctions) that allowed me to draw so many ribs since ship drawings only have a few usually showing.

Here is a small Update, I have not modeled the deck framing showing the Horizontal knees as this is quite a task and will again not be used in the final model, Knees seen below will be in the final, keel still needs some Pieces added on top of ribs to finish off.

I have an interesting issue that I cant seem to find a solution for, the Hull Planking is done in 1 group, to show in the rendering however each plank needs to be modeled and grouped seperatly, the method Ive attempted was to use the follow me tool starting from the top line with a circle and intersecting it with the hull face, this works for the first 4 planks but after a while the amount of intersections become to much and it becomes a mess.

Im sure a plugin for this must exist, this task can be achived manually but it will take hours if not days, and it will not be used in the final model at all as its just for rendering purposes.... Ideas?

    • Rose Anne Belliveau

      http://www.boatnerd.com/digitalshipyard/belliveauships/RoseAnneBelliveau-AAsr.jpg

Built at Belliveau Cove, Nova Scotia in 1919 by Ben Belliveau & Co. and operated by Ben Belliveau & Co. as a three-masted wooden schooner. Dimensions: 130.5’ length x 30.8’ beam x 10.5’ depth. Gross tonnage: 310 tons. Net tonnage: 281 tons. Official registry number 141230. At an unknown date during her career, a Boston newspaper item stated the Rose Anne, under command of Captain Raymond Vincent Comeau, made a very fast run from Belliveau Cove to the Boston Lightship, a distance of 240 miles, in 24 hours. On another occasion she left Boston for Belliveau Cove, loaded 250,000 board feet of rough spruce and returned to Boston in 17 days; this was considered as good as a steamship of the time could have done. The Rose Anne Belliveau ran aground and wrecked at White’s Cove, Nova Scotia (ironically, only about a half mile north of where she was built and launched ten years earlier) on January 19, 1929. Registry closed on February 1, 1929.

John Belliveau has been kind enough to assist in providing valuable information for this build, from wood types and colours to accommodation layouts etc.
More information can be found on his website here : http://www.boatnerd.com/digitalshipyard/belliveauships/home.htm

    • RE: 38 Gun Frigate L`Aurore

      Thanks Guys

@ Armstrong, her exterior is under 100k, I think its in the region of around 60k, the guns are the killers, they are around 1200 polys each excluding the ropes and blocks.
The Book I used for my interior layout and some fittings ( the 100 page book ) is The Anatomy of the ship Pandora, being a very similar frigate in Size and Shape, I decided to adapt her interior to fit mine, Although Chapmans drawings are close to this, it was not Chapman`s design as far as I know, The exterior is from the plans "Ajax" 1765, a set of drawings I obtained somewhere online years ago for a static kit, It might be chapmans Im not sure, I havnt looked at his drawings since I made HMS Artemis from his designes.
I hardly have enough time to get her going in 1 sim, theres no way Ill have time to learn another and adapt it accordingly.

@ Pherim, Your model looks great, but yes I see what you mean with the hull, a accurate hull is easy however, like a wooden "plank on frame" model, its pretty much the same procedure in 3d, Keel, Ribs , then planks. Ive attached a trawlers hull as an example, start by making the keel in 2d from the side view, extrude it to its width according to the profile view, Group it and hide it. Next draw each of the rib lines using only vertices and edges, group each rib seperately, the rotate them all and fit them to theyre numbers or lines on the side view (remember not to move the ribs on the Y axis when fitting them to the keel) then explode all the ribs and connect the verts πŸ˜„, there are many other ways of making a hull of course but I find this to be quick and easy, and the amount of poly`s is up to you.
