    • RE: Ribbon Shape Wrapping a Base

@Dave-R The model is 5'-7" tall 2'-10" wide and 8" deep... I'm using Sketchup 2023. I plan on bringing it into Keyshot when I'm finished with getting the model right. But if there is a way to soften those connections in sketchup, I'd love to learn how. If not, I guess I can bring it into photoshop to save time... I just didn't like how wonky the details looked.

      Thanks again!

    • Ribbon Shape Wrapping a Base

Hello, I'm trying to make this ribbon like shape wrap this base, but some of the details at the folds look a little wonky... any recommendations on how to solve this?

      Thanks in advance!

    • RE: Rounding a Complex Shape

I figured out what the problem was eventually lol ... I didn't hit "weld". As soon as I blew up the shape (as just a line) and hit "weld", the follow me tool worked out. Just wanted to follow up in case anyone else had issues like this...

I would have drawn the profile with the desired roundover and then used Follow Me to extrude it to shape. With what you show now, either Round Corner or FredoCorner would do a good job on it.

I'll try your first suggestion next... I've tried round corner too and it didn't seem to work. I think the shape may be too thin or something. Anyway, thank you for the suggestion!

    • Rounding a Complex Shape

Is there a way to make this shape look rounded instead of square? I've tried the follow me tool using a circle, but I think the shape might be too complex? Maybe I need a special plugin?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    • RE: Purchasing Plug-ins

Thanks Dave! That's good to know... you can never be too cautious making purchases online these days... Anyway, thanks so much for explaining what happened. It felt like I had that plug-in for a while so, I didn't even know it was a trial.

    • Purchasing Plug-ins

I feel silly asking this, but for the first time today, I've received a notice that some of my plug-ins were expired (like the joint push pull... said the trial was over). When I tried to update, I was asked to pay a fee for one plug-in. Has sketchup always charged for each plug-in or is this something new? I just want to make sure this is legit before I hand over any money.

And if this is right, what's the best way to buy plug-ins? In a bundle? Or one at a time?

      Thanks in advance!

      Nice work Eric.

Thanks for your suggestion earlier about the helix, Dave! I don't see the comment anymore, but I did download that plug-in and have been trying to learn how to use it and get it to work with the shape I need.

Here is another, pretty much the same but it has the small arc in the middle of the shape before I rotated it.

Thanks so much for sending this video Boofredlay! I'll give this a try! Very big help to visualize a solution to achieving this shape!

      Hi!
besides other solutions, for example Christina Eneroth´s "Upright Extruder" (which works in a similar way to the Follow Me tool, but much more sophisticated) and SketchUp´s native Solid Tools should hopefully work for your task

HornOxx, thanks for the help! I tried your suggested plug-in and it did work, however, now it will not let me raise and lower the edges... I'd like for the shape to have these angles, not a flat top. I've attached screen capture... is there another plug-in for that? How would I raise and lower the edges to create angles on this shape?

      Thanks again!
