Try my suggestions of softening and hiding the edges. You could also consider radiused edges instead of the hard square edges you have.

You're quite welcome. I've had Joint Push/Pull since it's initial release years ago. It was only recently that Fredo6 decided it was time to start charging for a set of his extensions. Those extensions are all amazing additions to SketchUp and I think well worth the tiny investment. He has worked very hard at keeping the extensions up to date and improving them so I think it's fair that he get compensated. I'm sure you agree. Before you do anything else with his extensions make sure you have the Sketchucation Extension Store tool up to date. After installing the latest version, quit and restart SketchUp to make sure the tool loads completely. Then use it to install the current versions of Fredo6's extensions.

@dave r said: Nice work Eric. Thanks for your suggestion earlier about the helix, Dave! I don't see the comment anymore, but I did download that plug-in and have been trying to learn how to use it and get it to work with the shape I need.

...since you already have a quad related geometry, using Quad Face Tools in addition to automatically select, add etc. line-loops could be obvious too http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=QuadFaceTools
