the style is the basic sketchup monochrome one with a black coloured fog.... a fairly simple effect that can hide some of the edges whilst keeping some inner detail. Her is a quick go at the head i used the texturing technique outlined in another gallery post with some cool vehicles excellent tips! [image: 89Vz_11.jpg]

Here is a totally "dummy" material file with a 1 pixel x 1 pixel, totally transparent png image set as 1 cm x 1 cm texture. Use it as "dummy shadow caster" in cases like yours. Not that in the "In model" prewiew it may appear as black for some reason. Transparent.skm

You'll also have to keep in mind that when you project the light onto the entirewall, the light strength will exponentially decrease with the increase of the surface you project on. Therefore - as Aalan suggested - you will need a reasonably large light collector probably equipped with some kind of lense that would collect even more light. Like I think there are lenses in those light tubes Tavi mentioned, too (I have never seen any closely).

hi, yep i did, it reads fine on A4 but i see wehat u mean about the monitor reading..... theres some explaination that i have added in the description on the site but i didnt want to clog the page full of text when its supposed to be a basic concept. I don't expect it to do particularly well, the reason why its so sketchy is because i found it hard to fit in around work but will give the second brief a proper go, but im kinda content with making a nice looking image for now apologies for the lack of clarity etc...

I love futurist architecture and this one is "one of the ten" that should be mentioned, even if it's two year old. Fantastic work, so detailed, I can see the idea of the future urbanism in the pictures .

@archi rag said: ...i kinda cheated with the design because its symmetrical so i just made a component, flipped and editted That's not "cheating" - that's the way everyone with a little routine shouldwork in SU - to save time for the client!

Ok what are you having? Actually though once I'd paid off my ten year old university debts and those intermittent loans from my dad I'm only marginally more solvent than I was before.

Hm... None has good resolution images of my place. Live maps displays an aerial photo only from 1 mile and up... I have better orthophotos on my hard drive

wow thanks a lot for the input guys its all much appreciated and now sorted, ive pretty much finished the modelling now so i can start texturing up. The unit SU model was mainly for concept art cnc3 is good but i realise it couldnt handle the copmplexity of the model, they have created complex looking units by clever texturing which is what i had hoped to use here- taking the overall textures of the unit and creating a much simpler series of blocks to give the effect that the untextured SU model has again thanks a lot for your speedy responses and help!

render times - well, it depends from render to render. I have a quad core too. it is very comparable to other high quality render engines... and the new KT beta I'm testing is much faster than the current official release, but I'm not at liberty to say more right now on interiors I get great results using the KT preset 'Photon Map Medium +AA' this will generally get me something very nice at 2800px wide in about 30mins. for exteriors I us an unbiased render method called Path Tracing Progressive - this takes some time to clear up, but gives me nearly instantaneous 'preview' renders. So it's great for both uses. Since I'm on a quad, in less than 30 mins I will have great exteriors (assuming lit only with Sun and Physical Sky) Sometimes if the scene is extremely reflection and poly-heavy I can wait up to an hour or two for large px renders. For interiors of extreme high lighting quality and more than 2000px wide on unbiased render preset such as Metropolis Light Transport you can wait up to 12-13 hrs (I start it, go home, come back to finished render the next morning) This is similar to high qual + high res Vray or Maxwell renders.

There are so many little tricks that one isn't aware of - or even if is, just do not use as a routine. I still keep browsing the "User's Guide" now and then so I'd warmly recommend you to do so. Here's the Windo2s version: http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_win/gsuwin.html And here is the Mac version: http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_mac/gsumac.html At the end of each section you can find all these little tips and tricks Time after time I still find nice solutions that I may have read about but not practising them, I just forget.
