Thanks Barry! And updating dates across pages, too; that would be excellent

Nice! I've wanted to do this in the past and didn't realize I could.

@bjanzen said: Barry: Your questions though brought up a good point, though. There is an issue here with setting scale. If I have a model view, usually it has a scale of some default value based on the camera from SketchUp, e.g. on my test case it was 1:82.9117. I want 1/8" = 1' , or 1:96. When I change the scale, I now have "(Modified) My Scene Name". And what's strange, is that we snapshot this, so that if you change the style for that scene, you wont see your model view change unless you go back to the standard scene (and your scale to 1:82.9117! And it does this in Raster, Vector or Hybrid rendering. I think this is what's confusing a lot of people when they update their model (in addition to not saving styles, then scenes, then the model). We'll be working on how to address this / fix this to be less confusing. I've noticed this too. My workflow? Save changes in SketchUp > Reselect Scene in LO (so there is no longer (modified) next to the scene reference) > Update reference in LO > Switch back to desired scale Smoother operation for this situation would be very welcome.

+1 to guides in LO +1 to layer not print +1 to offset fillet (and stretch besides of scale) What about having Vector and Hybrid modes that would render correctly and differently hidden, and soften lines? One would be as dashed lines the other as dotted lines, and both would export to CAD with line styles?

But what about a Layout generated shape? I want to place a white rectangle, with opacity of 20% over the lower model, and then i want to place another model instance above the filled rectangle. On my mac system, at least, it is proving impossible to hide the lower model as it seems that model instances are always above everything else, no matter the arrangement choices. I am attaching an image of a Layout page. The grid lines were place above all else, the model was sent to back, and the red square should be between them. As you can see, the red square should be covering up the model and the grid lines should be visible above the red square, neither of which is happening. [image: yjUa_Picture1.png]

They (and any line) will only remain attached if they're some sort of arrow head style. I'd suggest using the last two arrows (the undershoot and overshoot) and adjusting the point size of the arrowhead to be very very small (0.00001 pts, for example). b

Can you sample a scrapbook style, without pulling the object onto the active LayOut page? Answer: I just tried it, and, yes, it works! (I'll just leave this note here, for the benefit of someone who hasn't already learned this.)

@jhauswirth said: @biff said: But everyone has to tweak their images and orientations in LO for the final presentation. What settings are you tweaking in LO that you can't in SU? Note that if you tweak things in LO and you see (Modified) listed in the SU dialog for the Scene name, its not going to render what SU is rendering- that's what (Modified) means, you modified the Scene in some way, so LO takes a snapshot of the Scene because it thinks since you modified the Scene you want your changes to stick. LO will only match what you see in SU if you have a Scene selected in LO and it isn't marked (Modified). Also, if you change the shadow light/dark settings, you need to update the Scene afterwards to capture the new settings and LO will only render those new settings if the Scene isn't marked (Modified). Thanks for the reply. Actually by the mention of tweaking in this instance, read reorientation of maybe a perspective view, to suit the final presentation on an A3 paper. This process is not fast and easy, as often a rerender is needed to see an incremental window crop or positioning. What you have explained makes perfectly clear sense, and I can see why it has been thought out like that. But in my way of thinking, perhaps the application of this thinking is a little flawed in practice. I will explain why. It takes a fair while for me to orient, and position a perspective architectural shot in LO. I'm sure many people get pedantic at LO stage too, there is a certain graphic composition that needs to be obtained. No way could I have preplanned that exact position in SU without seeing the final against my presentation sheet and other components. I finally get positioned and realise a test print shows the shadows a bit dark. So, you would naturally assume a quick tweak of shadows in SU and rerender in LO. But actually it means I have to choose that scene again and go through the fairly cumbersome orienting and positioning of the object. @unknownuser said: so LO takes a snapshot of the Scene because it thinks since you modified the Scene you want your changes to stick ---my approach to this would be that if you updated a scene for shadows you would want to see that result in LO. ALso I see in LO there are shadow settings for time and date, could not light and dark be brought across too? Thanks again for the reply.Layout is getting better and better.

@bmike said: @unknownuser said: @bjanzen said: Yes. This is a known issue on Windows. When you launch both apps, if you "Run as Administrator" it'll work. b Yeah tested this by sending one model to LO, then made new one saved and tried sending, no luck. My user account is an administrator, well, the only admin on this comp. Using vista home premium SP2, not sure if this is an issue... Cheers again Pretty sure you still need to tell the program to run as admin... If you right click on the .exe icon to launch, you can get to a check box under advanced. This should keep the setting so you do not have to right click each time. Ha yeah that did the trick, learn something new everyday Thanks bud

LayOut can't turn on / off SketchUp layers - you have to set up scenes. LayOut is set up to only export LayOut layers, not SketchUp layers. So to export your layers separately from SketchUp, you'd have to first set up scenes in SketchUp, then set up views in LayOut to match those scenes to export to DWG. b
