Maybe it makes up for my lack of skill with rendering that you have.
Dave your rendering skills are more than “just fine”. We just generally do different types of modeling….. my craziness just allows for weirder results

Thank you Rich and Charles.
Rich, I expect I'll need to build out the shop more before I try to animate it.
-
Top notch details and illustration!

Spline gears! Nice!
-
This is getting better and better. I was going to say, when is the animation coming but Rich beat me to it.

Thank you.
I got a little sidetracked.

That's some delicious modelling in the axle. Especially the top of the neck as it tapers and bends.

Thank you very much my friend. That was fun to work out.

Excellent modeling as always!

Front axle I-beam from around 1905...and a wheel for a rail car from around 1895
wunderbar Dave! -
I'm not exactly sure what this is used for but I made a model of it anyway. The handle drives the ratchet wheel which drive the pointy bit on top upward. There's a tapered squre hole on the bottom of the handle which would appear to allow the handle to sit on something. I presume the pointing bit is used to split something.
And a cut-away view showing the threads and the rachet wheel and pawl.

Another excellent machine model!

Here's a detail showing some of the screw threads. Added some color in the render.
Do you do this for a living?

Do what? Make 3D models in SketchUp? Yes. This model is an assembly of a bunch of separate parts I modeled mostly for my own entertainment and to practice using SketchUp.
