Absolutely brilliant modeling 👍 👍 Side note I recall seeing pictures where workers would use a wooden stick to pop the belts off and on the pulleys….

Yes. There should be a sort of fork with a long wooden handle to shift the belt back and forth between fast and loose pulleys. I have yet to find dimensioned drawings or even really good photos of the belt shifter.

              Really cool Dave.

I've enjoyed seeing the evolution of your vintage lathe model and look forward to seeing it hooked up to your newly-modelled line shaft!

Makes me think of the Hancock Shaker Village shop:

(beautiful vintage shop and great video of this type of system in action for those who aren't familiar)

Dave — it's not a dimensioned drawing or even a photo, but at 2:45 in the video linked above there's a good shot of the belt shifter you describe shifting between the two pulleys. (and again at around 4:00 showing the shift of power to the bandsaw)

Maybe you could contact them for good stills of the mechanism(s)? (Perhaps they also have drawings?)

                  Just a thought.

                    Thanks Doug. I'll look.

Hornoxx and Rich, if you click on the last two images you should see the full size version of them. And thank you!

Here's a detail showing some of the screw threads. Added some color in the render.

The best renders are the ones that convey the right amount of details.

This is one of those renders where you appreciate the accuracy and level of modelling involved.

Not one where errors are disguised using texture maps etc

Cannot wait for you to animate it 😛

Dave your rendering skills are more than “just fine”. We just generally do different types of modeling….. my craziness just allows for weirder results 👍 😆

Rich, I expect I'll need to build out the shop more before I try to animate it. 😉
