Marcus has a good point but remember to only associate layers with components or groups and leave all geometry on Layer 0. Also, make sure any additional geometry (faces and edges) are drawn on Layer 0 by leaving Layer 0 as the active layer. Chris also has a good suggestion if you need to limit the edges that get softened and the angle between faces isn't a good determinant of which edges get it. I guess I should have mentioned dragging a selection box around geometry you want selected is one way to grab it. Left to right and right to left selection boxes yield different results. Experiment with to see the difference. You can also triple click on an entity to select all connected entities.

Glad that got it sorted. It wasn't really a lucky guess because I ran into it once years ago. SketchUp draws the face on the ground plane with the back side up because usually that's going to be the bottom of some 3D object. The front face is facing out (down). About the only time it creates any sort of problem is when applying materials to a 2D face.

@honoluludesktop said: Matteo, Richard, Thanks for the feedback. I never thought about creating masks in that manner, and always wondered if the renders posted even attempted to approximate the right colors on compled shapes. Now I have a idea how they did it. Mate there have been several cases of buyers taking legal action because the end product didn't look like the renders!

One little trick you can do is to add a face with a gradient transparency png texture overlaying the original face. to create the shadow area. This is just a quick sketch to show the idea using the texture from above [image: nsi0_arch.jpg] This is the png [image: 7h36_fade3.png]

Glad the OpenGL changes worked for you. I know only enough about OpenGL to be dangerous but it is the thing (protocol, system, whatever) that is responsible for creating the 3D appearance. SketchUp is designed to work well with the nVidia chipset and OpenGL and for other graphics adjustments have to be made. The specific combination of adjustments seems to vary between machines and graphics driver software revisions. I would imagine you could get better info if you search OpenGL here on the forum.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you're asking for a material to use in SU in order to produce the same results you'd get in 3DS Max. If that's what you're asking, it isn't possible; SU does not produce photorealistic renders. You'll need external rendering software and create/find materials that work with it.

Thanks, You are right, in this case, Gimp or PS will be practical to change a bit the colour and to make a bigger map.

These could also bee cool - too bad they are fragments of people. In this camp, I took a lot of pictures with the very purpose of (late3r) turning them into a 2D component so I have a couple of usable ones. (if you want to change your username just let me know and I can do that for you)

I have uploaded the model I made (prw purchase from pic) on the Component Forum. I must root our some more interesting compact furniture to model. If anyone has pics shoot them to me. Its my form of therapy Mike

Thank you very much. The meaning of "Solo" in spanish is "alone" but you will never be alone. I suspect you will recruit a lot of friends here.
