"You must save the scene, or update, with "shadow settings" set to be saved." That was the problem—I'd done everything but. Thanks!

Dave's tips for efficient model building are spot on. If you still find yourself chugging a bit too much, don't forget the document setup options for editing and output. [image: YTDZ_layout2013docsetup.JPG]

I reported this issue to SketchUp and they confirmed that angular dimensions are only respecting Paper Space and not Model Space.

LayOut has two systems to prevent lost work: file backup, and auto-save. File backup works like this: every time a file is saved, the previous version of the file is renamed with a "~" (on mac) or with "backup_" (on windows). This file will be in the same directory as the actual file that you're working on. If you ever save a file, and then realize that you saved changes you didn't want, you can try opening this backup file to basically go back to the last saved version. Auto-save works like this: when LayOut crashes, it leaves files behind in the user's temporary directory. The next time LayOut runs, it presents these temporary files in the "Recovered Files" dialog. Since this happens automatically, it's a bit harder to know exactly what state your work is in. So, to recover work, the first thing to do is to look for the backup file. If that's not present, or is too old to be useful, you can run LayOut and see what's available in the "Recovered Files" dialog. thanks, Marc

That won't last, however. Just don't make the viewports show as modified and you'll be a lot happier.

RE: Shortcut assingment I think File/Document Setup......is the closest you will find (useful) for updating a viewport on a locked layer. This of course still requires you to make the additional selection of pertinant model reference(s)..........and of course select Update. Unfortunately there is not a shortcut option for File/DocumentSetup/Reference(s) (I wish there were!) Re: File/Update Document My guess would be you must have a specific document in the LO file selected "prior to" for this to have any effect. Best, Charlie

Not only that one can't print to scale another stupid thing is preview, all pages only. Printing in layout is extremely obnoxious. Also crashing, when printing, exporting, previewing.... Shame that these Trimble people can't see that. Tones of mickey mouse plugins but not one that does the real thing.. Also software's 32bit legacy and lack of real kick power behind it irrespective of what machine or GPU one uses?! Most of the work done via processor thus crashing... After all pain of assembling construction drawings etc. at the end a real pain to print it out?? That's a joke.. From Sketchup to Layout to Mental Clinic... I have a project comprising 30 detailed drawings, can't print them, export them, preview them.. I use capture software to paste all drawings in image software and print them there... Every time I attempt crash after crash, bug splut etc. Sent file to Sketchup with level 4 support man telling me that I am one of the two on the planet earth with this problem. Can't believe that they are trying to make a nag run like a thoroughbred, and at the same time pretend that everything is fine?!. Whole software should be re-written. True solids, 64 bit, proper GPU integration, contemporary GUI, Transparent Skethup-Layout interface, list goes on. I've been using it since 2003. Love and hate relationship. Presentation, visualisation, animation, brilliant. Serious construction, detailing, simply as it currently stands in particular Layout, crap. One day my prince will come, hopefully... Sorry I went a bit of tangent, but my pain is immense...[/size]

You could make a transparent gradient in PS save as PNG and drag this in to LO then create a clipping mask - LO does a good job with transparencies.

create a scene in skp that has the section lines not visible in the style dialog; save settings and use it as your style/scene in skp.

Thanks, But I found out it didn't work for me. Changing the rendering method from raster to vector, did work for some strange reason (this also explains why exporting it as a .pdf does work and exporting it as an image doesn't). Any idea how to solve the problem, especially for when I directly export images from sketchup?

I read your question, before I saw your second answer... You're absolutely correct... With LO there's no need for a separate PDF-creation/printing software is needed... Glad you found the solution...

This message means that something happened since the last auto-save which caused the document to become corrupt. Your best bet is to click "Yes" when this message appears, since this will recover the most recent auto-save. Then you should immediately save once the auto-saved file opens. This option to recover the most recent auto-save is new to LayOut 2014. If you use the default auto-save interval of 5 minutes, then you will have lost at most 5 minutes of work.
