Sounds like a Windoze system problem... Does it only occur with SKP files ? If so try reinstalling SketchUp... Otherwise you must try some 'system tool' fixes [beyond the scope of this forum ]

Also... the Simlab .fbx importer (90$) mentioned in this thread just converts geometry, no materials. So it is not more useful than the DWG importer in Sketchup which is free. Since 2011 Revit version,Autodesk changed the way it writes Collada and FBX files, so they only can be read by Autodesk products. Way to gooooooooooooooo Autodesk

Hi, bntheman: Thanks for replying, and, heh, reaffirming that at least I could help in some small way. I wish you good fortune hereforward. I suspect that would be the latest maintenance release, but I am not sure if it addresses any sandbox issues. However, if you got it to install ok, then chances are good you won't see any problems.

What import unit did you use? The SketchUp Pro importer doesn't recognize the unit that has been used in the model you try to import, but you will have to provide the information yourself, via the Import Options that are hidden behind the Options button on the Import File dialog box. If you are inadvertently importing the model in millimeters or centimeters instead of Feet or Meters, it might result to too small faces that SU is unable to fill. An Imageshack image does not tell us much about the original DWG file so if you could post that there might be more to be learned from it. Anssi

The auto-loading of Ivy's components was discussed... I can't find the 'fix' either... Perhaps in the morning I'll remember what/where it was... It can't be that awkward to move the auto-loading for the 'startup' into the 'first-use' of the tool...

You are right Thomthom. It did occur to me that it might be glued but when I checked it wasn't glued. I probably right clicked on some other component in there and didn't notice...

Deleted Sketchup Pro 8 from the desktop XP machine. Re-downloaded Pro 8 and when the toolbars began reloading they were covering a large portion of the screen. I'm thinking now that the toolbar background was covering the whole screen not allowing me to see the design screen behind it. The whole screen was the same color as the background on the toolbars, Bryce or the female version could not be seen on the screen. Don't know how the size of the toolbars changed like they did. Sheesh

Found out that the section states was caused by the View > Section Cuts had been unchecked. This happened with a couple different files, but not with others. Weird. The layers are a bit more random. Oddly, it seems like just for the scene that was open when the file was saved. Once corrected, the files seem to be ok - that is, once I set the Section Cuts and layers, update the scene, and save the file the file is correct the next time I go into it. It just seems like an odd glitch for an update that is billed mainly as rebranding. The other items mentioned in the release notes don't look like they'd affect file saving.

Regarding a better computer, yes it helps . I had a dual core processor at 2.8 ghz, now a quad at 3.8 with hyperthreading (it helps a lot in multitasking letting sketchup to use the most of one core). A model of 10 mb loads under 5 seconds now, then in about 15 ! I had 2gb of memory now 16 but I haven't seen a consume greater than 6 gb (but not from sketchup which uses around 400mb for a 10 mb file). I haven't changed the video card though but I know it helps a lot cause I saw the difference between the integrated video card and a dedicated video card . Crashes still occur, the overall performance of sketchup seems slightly improved . What I am glad is that when the program is Not responding it gets worked out after some dozen-s of seconds depending on the operations you were doing . With the old pc when the Not responding message appeared it was almost clear, I have to close it . Honestly I thought with this performance it should run like rocket and never stop ,but it seems to be a not well grown up adult! I believe that without the plugins won't crash at all! I hope it helps a bit, although this is just my second PC(ever); so there might be others who have made many upgrades including video cards and the new SSD storage disks(which I heard are way better than regular HDD's) therefor helping sketchup work and load faster . Take care !

@dale said: Having used both Mac and PC with SketchUp, I still feel the Mac version is way more glitchier than the PC. This also really depends on the video card. The dreaded NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M in the older MacBook pro with its blackout issues is a real winner. I too find the my PC version is more stable than my mac. Set your autosave up and create back ups. If it persists on a particular model copy the geometry to a blank model, that helps on my mac.

The mouse is pretty much brand new, but it could be a driver issue......assuming the issue comes back.
